Why are navies still a thing that exist? The whole point of a navy is to pick up troops from one piece of land, and transfer them across the water to another piece of land, and planes are much superior to boats in that and every other regard.

>defense of coastline
Planes can do that too
>sending supplies to soldiers in foreign lands
Planes can do that too
>b-but submarines!
Are meant to down boats, if there were no boats there would be no need for submarines

It's 2016 people, the ocean is completely irrelevant in modern warfare.

I'm trying to lay out my case (pic related) for my AR & mags - currently iron sights. How much space should I leave above the rifle for optics? I'll probably end up getting a red dot & maybe a 1-4x eventually.

Why don't you just cut it out when you get the optic so it fits well?

My autism demands simulation of WW2 vs. modern army engagements. My local airsoft team is shit and can't into teamwork, so I'll just ask you guys.

Let's say a full platoon (30 men) of WW2 German soldiers are put into a small town to fight a 2014 American platoon.

>The Germans have two panzerschreks >Americans one M72 Law
>All soldiers are equipped for best standard equipment of their day, that means Germans get all STG-44s
>battle occurs in small town like Sprague, Washington
>one heavy machine gun from each side is located in a random spot in the town

Who's training will be superior?

>Squad leader (NCO) MP40
>Machine gunner (private) MG 34/MG 42 and pistol
>Assistant gunner (private) pistol
>Three riflemen (privates) rifles
>Horse leader for horse, cart and trailer (private) rifle

How protected is the turret roof of an Abrams?

Wasn't it once standard tactic to disable a tank's mobility and then have artillery or aircraft take it out from the relatively thin armor on top?

I don't know of any tank that is well protected from the top, that's why the Javelin has a top attack profile.

An artillery barrage is unlikely to hit the top of a tank. However, artillery can sure as hell stop a tank in its tracks, achieving some sort of kill on those who don't vacate the area.

They're dicks because people are stupid and need to be a little afraid.

I've seen Pajeets posing with a loaded rental AK pointed at their son's head at a range, and people going near-vertical with SMGs they can't handle. Somebody has to be breathing down their necks or there'd be even more of that shit.

If someone gets hurt on that RSO's watch their life is pretty fucked, too.

It's ironic that a country liberated by a group of people who trained illegally with illegally obtained firearms only a century ago bans guns and training with guns.

So I live at a lake house, and there is a fucking infestation of Canada geese. These shits are loud as fuck, shit on my lawn, scare off ducks and based loons, and in general are obnoxious little shits. So /k/, my question to you is how I should go about ridding the lake of what I now consider vermin and a blight on the land.

There are people all around so guns are probably not an option, but I hold no reservations as to time invested and methods employed. It's illegal to kill the geese so it will have to be done sneeki breeki like.

Current plan is to put on a wetsuit and some flippers and attack from below with a knife or makeshift spear. Hopefully anyone watching will mistake me for a snapping turtle.

Plan B is to follow them at night to their nests, mark the locations, then kill them later on as they sleep

There are around 30 geese in the area, and I would like to reduce that number to less than 5.
tl;dr total war against goose infestation.

Katana
>>
Find their nest and put olive oil or similar on their eggs to suffocate the hatchlings, since they get oxygen through the eggs.
Also my dad has a tall tale of him hunting geese with just bread. He'd lure them in with bread crumbs, then grab their neck and swing them over his head like a lasso, then have goose for dinner. But be careful, geese will peck/tackle you if you fuck with them
>>
Lace some bread with arsenic or something poisonous then throw it out to them. Pick up what's left with gloves so that nothing else gets killed that you don't want to be killed. That should take care of it.

Is there a maintenance plan for guns, generally? I bought a rifle a few weeks ago and noticed that there wasn't a maintenance plan in the manual the way I need to maintain my car. My car says I need to maintain it once every six months or 12,500 miles, whichever comes first. What about my gun? Do I have to take it to a gunsmith every, let's say, 10,000 rounds fired or six months?

Shoot it, clean it, lube it. If something breaks or stops functioning reliably, fix it.

Pretty much this. If you're very anal about performance, look up the parts and check how often they need to be replaced.

Hey /k/, what did you all think of the depiction of space warfare in The Expanse? Good or bad? Personally I think the CIWS would have been supplemented by lasers and interceptor missiles but other than that seemed good to me.
11 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>29800559
The fact that it was heavily missile based and takes great distances is always welcome compared to Star Wars/Trekshit of visual range engagements.
>>
>>29800559
>>29800568
Agreed, better than others. Space is uuuge, advanced weapons systems like that shit would probably engage at distances at the edge or beyond visual range. I liked that it wasn't PEW PEW PEW lazarz too.
>>
>>29800559
I never understood the CIWS, the flame that comes out the back of them. Is that supposed to be some kind of heat dumping?
