At what point should one buy a gun safe? I live in a studio apartment in a gated apartment complex, and there's not a ton stopping someone from breaking in, but at the same time it seems like most safes that are worth owning cost thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.
Is there any cheaper way to protect my guns?
Are cheap, $300-$500 safes worth getting at all?

you could go to home depot and buy $10 worth of tools which would let you cut or bust 90% of locks, cables, or safes.
and even if you buy a real safe, it's just one layer of security. if you give someone enough time, they can get through anything.

Presumably the Ocean's 11 aren't coming after my $3000 in military surplus and walmart ammunition, but it'd make a pretty neat score for some enterprising urban youths in my area and that's who I'm worried about.
I at least want something that's going to stand up to the crowbar they used to get into they probably apartment in the first place.

In Canada, do stays in psychiatric hospitals affect my eligibility for weapons now that I am of age?
I was in a mental hospital for 4 weeks while I was 16. I'm fingerprinted, dna'd, photographed, the whole works.
I didn't attack anyone, just a weird drug overdose that my parents overreacted and I'm permanently fucked. I'm 22 now so this is old news but I would like to own weapons but I'm thinking my chances are next to nothing correct? Can anyone elaborate on my chances?

Which color plate carrier would you go with for SHTF?
On one hand black has more of a LEO vibe and would probably draw less attention here in Houston, but on the other Ranger Green is pretty neutral and could also blend the city's surrounding vegetation.
I would probably just throw this over a shirt and jeans by the way.

I used to find all kinds of weird shit in the woods and bayou next to my house.
One time my friend and I found 3 doors (like front doors to a house) propped up against trees with burnt yellow pentegrams spraypainted on them.
Another time we found a baby doll with its eyes plucked out hanging from a tree. A bunch of other plastic limbs were places on other branches and twigs which was also pretty damn weird.
Another time we found a swamp literally MASSES of vultures. It had to have been hundreds of vultures standing around or flying in a very small area. We pussied out and left, becasue I didn't feel like seeing whatever it was they were feeding on.

Why do manufacturers extend the grip as well with extended mags? It looks like shit and has no purpose on full sized guns unless your gonna double hand it like a long sword.

Depends on mags. Without mags, I'd say Camp 9. Simple, rugged, reliable, accurate, parts still widely available. Better ergonomics than the cheap feeling Kel-Tec, with it's fuck weird charging "handle." 2 issues: If it's still OEM, you must immediately replace the recoil buffer and spring. The original springs were too weak, and the buffer was nylon, which gun oil breaks down. Buy a new buffer from Midway, and a 16# spring from Wolff.
That being said, Glock mags are kind of a game changer.
