http://www.janes.com/article/60388/china-proposes-underwater-great-wall-that-could-erode-us-russian-submarine-advantages?
>China proposes 'Underwater Great Wall' that could erode US, Russian submarine advantages
>The China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has proposed the construction of a network of ship and subsurface sensors that could significantly erode the undersea warfare advantage held by US and Russian submarines and contribute greatly to future Chinese ability to control the South China Sea (SCS).
>Details of the network of sensors, called the 'Underwater Great Wall Project', were revealed in a CSSC booth at a public exhibition in China in late 2015. A translated copy of the descriptions was obtained by IHS Jane's from a government official. The text was confirmed by a source from a second government on condition of anonymity.
>While some elements of this network have been known for some time, CSSC is now in effect proposing an improved Chinese version of the Sound Surveillance System (SOSUS) that for a time gave the US a significant advantage in countering Soviet submarines during the Cold War. The system proposed by CSSC is likely being obtained by China's People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) but may also be offered for export.
>CSSC says that, among other things, its objective is to provide customers with "a package solution in terms of underwater environment monitoring and collection, real-time location, tracing of surface and underwater targets, warning of seaquakes, tsunamis, and other disasters as well as marine scientific research".
>The corporation says in the document that its "R&D and production bases in Beijing and Wuxi [have] the ability to support the whole industry chain covering fundamental research, key technology development, solution design, overall system integration, core equipment development, production, and operation service support".

Some concepts shown in previous arms-shows.
Basically; SOSUS + long range ASW missile launchers at the shore + traditional ASW assets.
>>29990374
And also, undersea automatic turrets launching torpedos against detected hostiles.

One of such ASW-MRLS was already shown.
These would be perfect for China's new artificial islands.

What are your thoughts on the Colt 1908 and the .25 ACP cartridge? I recently bought one kinda on impulse as it was a really good price. I got it primarily as a collectible, but just wanted to know /k/'s thoughts on its practical usefulness overall.
So, is .25 ACP still relevant or useful in comparison to other option out today? Does a tiny .25 ACP handgun still have a useful place today?
I'm ashamed to say I'm waiting for an elderly relative to die so I can get his.

I have one. It's one of the four Browning-designed pistols I still own. It's very fun to shoot. Even though the sights are barely there, if you can see them, you can hit bullseyes at surprising distances. I don't think it would be an effective carry gun caliber, but I have carried it as a backup for fun sometimes. It's very classy. Very small and light gun too. Aside from the width of the grip, it's smaller than the Ruger LCP.
Just use caution when buying a used gun. Back in the time when these were made, corrosive .25 caliber ammo was the only kind of .25 caliber ammo available, so even if the gun looks perfect on the outside, the bore might be like a sewer pipe.
Also, keep in mind that the opposite of this can cause problems too: If the bore looks TOO good, then it might be a replacement barrel. If it's a replacement barrel, it might not have been fitted to the gun perfectly, and might actually shoot a few inches low, high, or left/right.
I have "cycled through" three of these guns so far before finding one that was free of any problems.

less energy than a 22 lr.
But no one uses it as a defensive round anymore.
Its something you buy and use because its cool.

Why do you fight, /k/? Pic somewhat related
>>29990062
i hunt the skinwalkers at night so pussies like you can leave the city and go on day walks in the forest safely.
To ask why we fight is to ask why the leaves fall. It is in their nature. Perhaps, there is a better question.
Why do we fight? To protect Home, and Family. To preserve Balance, and bring Harmony.
The true question is:
What is worth fighting for?
>>29990062
to win the war
So, say WW3 happens, and it is somehow, non-nuclear.
Could the US' industry (coal mining, foundries, factories, etc) produce enough to keep us from getting BTFO? I know the US has large stockpiles of equipment, but we would still need new shit. Rifles, ammo, survival rations, all of that.
US industry hasn't been doing so hot as of late, so could we survive?
Would we have mass metal collection and rationing like WW2?
Nobody ever talks about this yet it is fundamental to surviving and winning a global scale war.
shit
America has enough raw material for it to be more-or-less self-sufficient.
The only reason it isn't is because of a bunch of globalist libtards would rather us sell all our coal to China and buy all of our oil from Saudi Arabia than exploit domestic reserves.
>>29989895
American isn't a manufacturing economy anymore, our economy consists of, the buying and selling of debt and consuming the products of starbuck/walmart/apple

All metal pistol vs. polymer/metal pistol
What is your opinion?
Coming from limited experience with full metal assembly, I can say that they definitely have tighter groups in rapid succession due to weight, but to me would be a bit heavy to carry all the time (full size at least), but I carry a full size polymer all day long.
Metal frames are far easier to repair, are more resistant to damages, and age gracefully. Very maintenance heavy in moist climates, cab be heavy for manlets, but handles recoil better if properly balanced
Poly is cost effective to mass produce, very temperature reliant, repairs rely on epoxy characteristics, can be eaten by many common chemicals and cleaners (like hoppes), damages with sun exposure, does not provide adequate protection from case ruptures (glocknade), not conclusive to automatic fire +(pstols primarily, design limiting), highly resistant to moisture.
My first two pistols were polymer (FNP and XD), fast forward to now and both those have been sold. Now the only pistols I'll own are full metal frames, it just feels right
