What does /k/ think of my Savage .308 build? Glass is coming soon: an SWFA HD SS, Sightron SSIII, or Viper PST.
All my reviews I've seen on each generally have something to the effect of "I switched from [SWFA, Viper, Sightron] to [insert one of three listed again ]" so clarity and features are all on par. Anyone have any other recommendations on good glass that goes up to 20x, is mil-mil and is FFP?
>>30091778
You might have better luck asking this in the next precision rifle thread or on another site like opticstalk or Sniper Central.
>>30091778
Here you go, OP.
I would do the PST if for nothing but their customer service. Not to say the glass isn't good; I think they're all great. I was in your boat a bit ago and was also looking at the XRS and XTRII as well. I got pissed off and just bought the Razor Gen II 4.5-27.
>>30091813
Hey thanks man.
I looked at the Razor and it's my #1 choice, but my budget is < $1,500 for glass. I've been around enough coolguys who have done some 'real shit' shooting and F Class back at home, and I've heard more than once from two of them that spending anymore in the hopes of better glass is simply not necessary.
> not that the Razor isn't worth the price
> I know it is, just won't be paying that much
well, I´m in for a new rifle
and I really want one of those VZ58s, so here am I
my prefered version is the super short (compact) version, see pic related
the problem is, should I get in in .223 or 7,62x39?
the .223 would use standard ar mags, so things like BETA-C mags would work too
also, ammo is more common around here and mags are dirt cheap, like 10 bucks a piece
problem is the low muzzle velocity out of that short barrel
compared to the 7,62 version, the x39 version
> uses cheaper surplus ammo
> proprietary mags
> higher muzzle velocity then .223 version
so /k/, which version would you choose and why?
I guess .223 vs x39 thread?
>>30091503
x39 is great out of a short barrel
Knock yourself out and buy it. I haven't known anyone to regret it, and you'll have a cool piece
With that out of the way
AR FAGS AND AK TARDS I SUMMON YOU
Compact rifle choices
VZ58 shorty
Pros: Sturdy, good design, cheap ammo, OK cost
Cons: no aftermarket, goofy mags
AKS-74U clone
Pros: cheap-ish ammo, mags relatively easy to find, OK cost
Cons:limited aftermarket but still better than VZ, CYKA BLYAT
PDW-style AR
Pros: multiple chambering options available, mags plentiful, aftermarket huge, A E S T H E T I C
Cons: Expensive
Enjoy 8-month waits on NFA papers.
>>30091518
is the x39 really so much better out of a shorter barrel?
why is that?
also, does anyone know what kind of optic mount a vz58 uses?
/k/, what is the best 3.4x reticle style?
I'm trying to recreate some / make my own
Personally, I love a simple dot in the middle of the scope, but it does miss out on drop/range estimation
But the problem with adding that to the reticle is it clutters up your view.
So what kind of design has the best overall combination?
>3.4x
why exactly that?
>>30091474
apparently it's the most common magnification for combat rifles

/k/ I really need your help right now guys I'm struggling out here
I bought my first gun a few months ago. Ever since I did, I've been thinking about killing myself again. It's been over 5 years since I felt suicidal and I could mostly chalk that up to hormones, but I'm older now and my life is by literally any metric great: decent job, doing well in university, healthy relationship, good friends. But ever since I got a firearm, I'll get this urge...this itch, almost, to just take it and blow my goddamn head off. The itch isn't that bad or anything, I'm not unhappy. But I'll stare at it, loaded, and just want to take it and end my life with it.
I don't know what to do about this; it's actually scaring the hell out of me if I'm being honest. And it's ME scaring the hell out of me. I've had this problem in other contexts before. Sometimes if I'm up high somewhere I'll just get this desperate itch to jump off. Bottle of pills, I'll get the urge to just down them all. How fucked up am I? What do I do about this? Should I get rid of the gun? I mean I love the thing and I've always liked firearms, but I think there's something really fundamentally wrong with me if I'm being honest. What do I do?

It's just part of being human. Sometimes you look at situations like that and think huh wonder what it would feel like if... Like you have never seen a jogger while driving a thought "wonder what it would feel like to just run that guy over"?
I wouldn't sweat it. If you start to be concerned you might act on it, let someone you trust keep the fun for a while.
your best bet would be to get rid of the gun because having it around your house for someone dangerous like you to have it around. the gun is just putting you at risk man.
>>30091002
>Like you have never seen a jogger while driving a thought "wonder what it would feel like to just run that guy over"?
All the damn time. Also I sometimes think of chopping off one of my fingers if I'm cutting vegetables. I don't cook much.
>>30091010
I might do but I might just be overreacting to something normal.
Let's take the time to appreciate a great mind in a sea of armchair generals.
PS: Oppenheimer what happened with the whole doxxing thing?
>>30090842
Oppen is great and all, but he doesn't need his own thread. We appreciate him when he shares his knowledge with us
although I will admit that I am curious about the doxxing debacle

The advertising is stupid

>this guy can pop a balloon with the 1st shot!
>this guy can hit a target at 550 meters!
>BUY OUR GUN AND BE LIKE THIS GUY!
Would this work?
>>30090028
What in the fuck is going on here?
Is this some gun grabber/SJW comic or something?
>>30090038
This is a long running comic with no agenda, this is just update 298.
The girl is trying to sabotage the rival school forces for a subsequent invasion, and seems to do so by sticking bananas on their gun barrels.
>>30090069
In that case, no, I don't think it would work. Likely, you wouldn't even be able to push the peel into the barrel. So say you jammed the barrel full of banana mush....When they shoot it the first shot will send banana spray flying everywhere.
Why not use the transmission fluid from a vehicle to cool mounted machinegun? Its lighter and less voluminous than spare barrels, and you dont even need a pump.
I have such an erection for the Vickers. I'm not usually a machinegun guy but I just love that thing.
Add a radiator, header tank and a pressure gauge.
Just how long do you think an attack that would need a water cooled heavy mg last?
In training the longest attack I participated in (coy in defence with IMV in support) went for eleven minutes.
On op, they are over in less than five.
The longest I know of from history is Kapoyong and that was eight waves over two days.
>>30090731
Well the Brits tested the Vickers after WW2 for shits n giggles and to get rid of old ammunition stockpiles.
They fired that one single gun for seven days straight. Seven. Goddamn. Days. Of. Full Auto.
The barrel was a smoothbore in the end, but it is amazing how well water-cooling works. After the ordeal the gun was 'in serviceable condition', which says something about the Maxim design and the build quality.
So I just found out about this new camo pattern, I dont like it. It looks ugly. I wont buy it rather save up for Crye gen 3 multicam field ops fatigue uniform sets.

I already own that Partizan M suit from Sposn.
Size 60/5 is sometimes hard to get.
Ugly camo:

Anyone here gonna buy a set or two of these regardless of cut (BDU, ACU, or other styles)?
