sup /k/,
i reading a history of the US navy and the book says that the US frigates pretty much cockslapped everyone they fought. why did american frigates slap the shit out of the british and french frigates?
apparently they were larger and faster. 44 guns vs 30ish guns. they also had more crew, 500 vs 250ish. also the crews were superior, being hand chosen from merchant fleets, whereas british crews often had criminals, children, and slaves in their crews.
American ship builders were apparently the best in the world during the age of sail. how did they achieve a larger, faster, more robust frigate?
>>30385139
I don't know exactly, but I'll put a dollar on wood quality and quantity.
They were designed to fill an intermediate niche that other navies didn't have, heavier than a frigate and faster than a ship of the line. Beat up anybody weaker than you and run from anybody stronger. Glorified piracy really.

So I just purchased a Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 (84207). I've been browsing around for a good replacement short action stock, and have been leaning towards the Magpul Hunter 700. Was hoping to see if anyone is familiar with this stock. If not, what would be some other good recommendations?
>he bought a new Remington
>>30384670
Is that the short barreled one OP? I've got one coming in next week with the upgraded trigger and all.

>he's still falling for a decade old meme
They've gotten much better.
So the Argies are making more noise about a "negotiated settlement", as if that will somehow have a better outcome. Bonus, some Argie bitch who is beating the drum about this is supposedly in the running to be the next UN General Sec. So /k/, you think her first order of business will be to try to get the UN to pass a resolution for negotiation, or "return" of the Islands?

Being taken prisoner has to suck so much. Not that Brits abused their prisoners, but the total lose of honor.

they were conscripts, of course they got their shit pushed in and taken prisoner.

Is there any reason that I shouldn't Loctite my ring and mount screws?
>>30384266
No. Unless for whatever reason you can't undo them afterwards.
Just don't use the red loctite.
>>30384266
theres no reason you shouldnt do this. loctite isnt superglue, with enough torque you can beak through it

Hey /k/, i'm looking for some Folding BUIS for my AR-15 and am thinking of getting Magpul MBUS Pro's. While researching, I found out Magpul makes two variants-
>Magpul MBUS Pro Flip-Up Rear Sight
>Magpul MBUS Pro LR Adjustable Flip-Up Rear Sight
Is the "Pro LR" version a meme or is it worth the extra coin? Also is this the best Folding BUIS to go with or is there someone better?
PLZ halp mee /k/.

Last 2 are dissembled. They'll make it into the next pic once I get my cans and make a few changes to some optics on my collection.
Hey /k/, so I'm planning on joining the marine core, like all my family ever has, but I have an eye disorder, I'm super light sensitive and without sunglasses I get pretty bad migraines, do I even have a shot? I suppose I could not mention it and try to man out the migraines but they get really bad after a while, so should I even try or just look into law enforcement

Why is the BTR-80 so much worse than its counterparts?
>barely stands up to anything other than small arms fire
>barely has any firepower
>troop compartment is cramped af
>turns into an iron coffin when lit
Was it purely a strength in numbers gimmick or is there something I'm not getting?
>>30383548
what the hell are you comparing it to? the BTR-60 through -80's US equivalents are the Striker and M113, which are just as poorly armored and even more lightly armed. it's NOT an IFV and is not supposed to tank shots nor post a significant threat to enemy vehicles.
armored APC's is about being protected vs NBC's
Not about being able to go into fire
>troop compartment is cramped af
could be worse.
Hey /k/ I dont know a lot about guns, but i have my dads pistol, a whitney wolverine, and was wondering if a 22 is big enough to kill yourself with
>>30383508
yes, but you'll have to go for a body shot
aim for the heart
it won't penetrate skull bone
Yes, but it'd be better for everyone here if you didn't contribute to the suicide by gun stat. You'd have far less pain with a helium mask, or just not committing suicide at all.
>>30383508
Fuck you.
Use an exit bag, hang yourself, or jump off a building, but for the love of John Moses Browning don't shoot yourself.
You dumb bastards are fucking us over by adding to the damn statistics of "gun violence".
I'd try and convince you not to kill yourself at all and simply become a gun-lover and have a hobby, but I've found you all typically are too fucking stupid to ever give life another shot and I'm tired of arguing.
You can find a snub nosed revolver in just about any revolver caliber you please, but the .38 special is ubiquitous, and for good reason. It is a proven cartridge of adequate power for self-defense purposes. It has all but completely replaced the once popular and less powerful .32 S&W long (or .32 New Police for you colt fans). .32 S&W Long was a cartridge deserving of replacement when .38 special came on the scene, but ammunition technology being what it is today, could the old .32 S&W Long be a good choice for self defense? In a service revolver, the .38 is more than manageable, but in the smaller dimensions of a snubbie, it can kick. The .32 was made for small revolvers. Not only is it easier to control, it's just small enough to squeeze in a sixth round in a J-frame sized package.
Thoughts? Rebuttal? OP, why are you such a faggot?

>It’s a perpetual argument: whether the 9mm or the .45 ACP is the better cartridge for a self-defense handgun. Nobody can argue intelligently about ballistics without referring to math and physics, and they both favor the .45 ACP.
>The argument invariably takes a turn to magazine capacity. The plastic-gun 9mm disciples always dash to that one when they get into trouble.
>My response is to laugh and tell them that I don’t plan my tactics around how many times I am going to miss, or how ineffective my cartridge of choice might be. Usually that’s where they point out that “new bullets” make the 9mm just as effective as the .45—but forgetting that those new bullets are loaded in the .45 too. End of argument.
>You can’t argue that 9mm just as effective as a more powerful cartridge with a bigger bullet. (It just makes you look like you’ve been tutored in common core math.)
>The effective striking power of the .45 counts for a lot anytime you are shooting to save your life.
>The STI pistols are works of art. I don’t think this one has ever jammed, and I’ve put about 400 rounds through it.
>This gun retails for $2,199 with night sights. If you are serious about defense, it’s worth every cent.

stopping power doesnt matter if you can't hit your target, its proven that in self defence scenarios people are panicked and usually mag dump towards the target, Id rather but 2 bullets in each bad guy than hope i dont miss
