What are some good guns to consider getting for possible future disaster prepping?
Considering Yellowstone has a considerably high chance of erupting any time within the next few decades, a volcanic winter across the whole country while not probable, it is completely possible.
I cant imagine AR style rifles or other more complicated modern rifles would hold up well.

What is the best 5.56 / .223 bullet weight for SHTF?
Will 55gr ball ammo get the job done efficintly or should I have something heavier like a 62gr or up?
I have yet to get a barrel for my AR build but want to see what is the minimal bullet weight that is suitable for taking out 2 legged predators.
I almost exclusively find 55gr in my local shops and wonder if it is enough.
Depends on your rifle's rate of twist. For a 1:7 or 1:8, then 62 grain JHP's or soft points. If 1:9 then 55 may perform better, you can test both weights and see how your rifle handles them.
>>30472517
Trust me man, you don't want to go down the rabbit hole of terminal wound effects. Just stay stupid and ignorant like you are now.
All rifle cartridges will do an assload of damage, so don't worry about it. Your AR will be just fine shooting whatever grainage you'd like. It's more important to be accurate with your rifle than to have "more damaging" bullets. So just buy whatever you can afford to shoot the most.
>>30472574
Might not have been as clear as I thought.
Basically assuming each weight is matched with the appropriate twist rate, which is the best man-stopper?
Im trying to figure out which bullet weight I should focus on so I can get the appropriate barrel.
ITT: less known wars

Not sure quite how obscure we're going here. Would India-Pakistan be too well known? Everyone seems to know they hate one another, but less attention is given to the wars themselves.
The 1971 Indo-Pakistan war is fascinating. Especially since the USA backed Pakistan who (a) lost and (b) were engaged in genocide.

Moving out of The Peoples Republic of Jew York, and am finally going to be able to buy my first gun:
>Can't buy an AR unless it is totally neutered
>Can't buy a Seiga 12
>Can't buy 30 round mags
>Can't buy a .410 revolver
>Buying a handgun is a major pain in the ass
>Can't carry a handgun with out a mountain of paperwork and sucking the sheriff's dick.
>Can't buy anything fun
What is the point of life, /pol/?
Any ideas of anything fun I can buy in NY?

>Can't buy an AR unless it is totally neutered
ACR or SKS
>Can't buy a Seiga 12
Plenty of semi shotguns that are fun and have more capacity than a gimmicky box mag
>Can't buy 30 round mags
:(
>Can't buy a .410 revolver
First of all why and second of all you can mod a .45 LC or even an ACP reloading die to make your own snek loads, Ammo Channel has a decent vid on that
>Buying a handgun is a major pain in the ass
Got ne there but at least you can
>Can't carry a handgun with out a mountain of paperwork and sucking the sheriff's dick.
Depends on where you are but at least you aren't in Jersey that's no issue pretty much
>Can't buy anything fun
I just listed a bunch of fun things you can have.
Wait, so you're moving OUT of NY, but you want to buy a gun IN NY? Is that what you're saying?
>why not just wait till you move

I'm looking for a new .22 rifle or pistol, either bolt-action, lever action, or single action.
I already have a 10/22, and wanted something that was arguably more fun.
I was debating between
>Uberti Silver Boy
>Uberti Cattleman .22
>Henry Golden Boy
>Ruger American Rimfire wood
>Ruger Single Six/Single 10
>Taylor's & Co. Cattleman
>CZ 455/FS or American Combo
Obligatory Savage MkII recommendation.
>>30471452
I'd like to keep it without optics. Otherwise I'd put the Mk. II FVSR on here.
Bump
I'm looking into buying my first gun and I'm leaning toward the ruger 10/22. It's cheap, easy to use, has little recoil, and easy to obtain. My state doesn't require a permit or background check for long guns so I won't have to deal with legal crap. I don't plan on carrying anytime soon, just target shooting and maybe home defense in an emergency, so I don't really need anything more powerful. So my question is, is it a good gun to start with? or are there any problems with my plan.
>>30471287
You'll get bored of it quickly. I'd get a little badger if I were you, unless you can buy a second hand one cheap.
>>30471287
Yeah, a 10/22 is an awesome gun to start with. It's an awesome plinker, and if you want to try your hand at squirrel/rabbit/varmint hunting, you're already well set.
I would be a little hesitant to use it for HD, since .22 isn't the most potent of rounds against humans (although being shot with .22 will still ruin anyone's day), but any gun is better than no gun.
>>30471287
Everyone should own a 10/22, it's a great place to start.
>>30471369
If you would get bored with a 10/22 you would get bored with anything, especially a single shot.
>>30471465
With a 25rd mag, you could do a lot worse in a HD situation, eg a little badger.

>Submarine drones wire guided from a mothersub. Provide torpedo firing platforms that don't give away a sub's position.
>Radar guided hydroplaning rocket-torpedoes. Too low to be acquired by PD radar, too high to be decoyed with normal torpedo countermeasures.

>The gun doesn't hold normal cartridges, they're literally tiny shaped charges.
