Are you secretly a weapons patriot?

Do you believe that the things your country has, weapons, troops, etc, are better than everywhere else? Do you find talking about your own nation's things more fun?

I know I am, so I'm curious about others.

No shit my country has the best weapons, we have a military budget the size of the next 30 biggest militaries.

yes.
Other people bitch about the L85A2 and make jokes about it being heavy, awkward and about its jamtastic history... but I fucking love it all the same.
Never had to carry one into action so I suppose I can't talk, but still.

>Do you believe that the things your country has, weapons, troops, etc, are better than everywhere else?
I'm American so this is an objective fact.

If you give the US military a military objective such as Destroy the Iraqi Army or Conduct Operation Praying Mantis they will win overwhelmingly.

If you give them a political objective like Make Iraq and Afghanistan Democracies they are going to struggle and likely fail because those aren't activities a military should be taking part in.

Medieval thread- Discussion edition.
Something I've always pondered was what sort of weapons fit what body type. A man with longer arms would have more reach, he could either use a shorter weapon like a gladius and have the same reach as a man with a longsword but with more control, or he could use a spear and give himself an even greater reach advantage. Basically, what I'm trying to figure out is this: What sort of weapon is ideal for a huge man (aka game of thrones mountain), a short stocky boxer type guy, an average sized fellow, ETC. Example, I'm short as hell (5'5". Manlets, when will they learn?) but have big long arms and large torso (40" chest, 69" reach) What sort of weapon lets me capitalize on the great leverage I have, while mitigating my shorter stride (can't maintain ideal distance as easily) and overall average reach?

Post a body type or weapon and its ideal match! Explain why they fit well together!

Tell that to the Romans. Though it has some merit, I think a spear works at least pretty well for anyone.

First off, cool pic, if not for the ugly asymetrical wings.

To answer your question, I didn't have that much of an expirience, some 7 months and going, but I work as a blacksmith and I study historical arms, armour and crafts, among other things, so... there's a bit.

The notion that long-armed man needing shorter weapon is bullshit. Imagine a bind. Now you have less reach with a weapon and more vulnerable arms. Hey ho. That being said, it would be useful with normal-sized things. Reach is king.

About leverage, mantlets, big torsos... Fuckin' shield and an axe. If you've got big upper body strength, axes are the shit. Axes are shit for defense, though. If only there was an obscure thing that could easily be held in one hand and provides very significant defense. That's right, a shield! From my expirience, boss-held shields require more strength and are more actively used. Man, did my left arm get swole after few months of swinging 5kg bossheld shield around! And being a mantlet is actualy a plus with a shield, since you can hide behind it more easily. Footwork is also a little bit more forgiving with a shield.

As for the other body types. I guess it is a bit of stereotype, but I've seen it in real life, so hey, stereotypes are true sometimes.

-This one really lanky guy, real flamboyant and agile, he liked to use two light-ish swords to a fair effect, also things like crouching below attacs, even rolls sometimes, really agile fellow. Most of the time it worked. One time, I smashed him in the head instead of his gut because of that. Ow.

-Another dude, sorta small, sorta light-ish, he was a skilled archer and knew his way around a sabre, good with a shield, too. Me being 6'4" 250lbs though? One time we got really hardcore on eachother - smacked him with my shield on his, whith all my weight put into it. Sent him flying on his ass maybe 7ft away.

(1/2? to be continued? Ask away btw)

Well I'm looking to invest in a home defense shotgun. I'm looking for advice, recommendations, accessories for said shotgun. I own an old 20 gauge shotgun my grandfather passed on to me. But I'm looking to upgrade to a 12 gauge. I hear pistol grip shotguns are kinda more fir show than a standard stock shotgun. Anyway what do you guys recommend?

It's main point is being able to carry Anti shipping ASMs, and I guess for a single engine fighter being bigger with more internal fuel without sacrificing pylons to fuel pods is good when operating over open water, but that's what in flight refueling is for anyways so I don't know. Come to think of it I don't know if Japan has tankers, but I assume they are NATO standard.

Old doctrine was that rifles were unslung in combat. If you had to carry something in one hand, say an ammo box or a litter, you carried the rifle by the handle in the other hand.

The Ruger is built like a goddamn tank, incredibly strong and reliable
The S&W is subjectively "nicer" in terms of build and appearance, and IMO has a nicer trigger
Both are fantastic, I chose the S&W but you can't go wrong either way

Hey /k/, need some advice here and I need to be serious. I know we've got a few cops here and I'd like to ask them a few questions.

I'm going to college in the end of August for an AA degree to start and then go from there. I've been debating on whether or not to go to school to become an LEO.

It's something that I've wanted to do since I was a kid, I wanted to either join the military or become a cop. I've decided against the military but the cop option is still open. So here's my questions;

1. Is it worth it anymore? I respect my local cops and I've never heard of shady shit happening here, or big shit like the freddy gray case. But with the public attitude towards cops I'm not aware if there's any more risk (I can't really articulate what I mean) than there normally would be.

2. The main reason I've decided against joining the military is because I don't want to ruin my body, everyone I know who's a vet says that their knees and backs are fucked up because of stuff they did in the military. Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard vets that I've talked to agree that their bodies are fucked from their service. Is there anything that would mess up my knees and back in law enforcement careers?

3. What's the pay? I know this is a touchy subject for some, but I need to know what I'm getting into. To clear this up, I'm not going to do it for the money, I'd do it to help people.

4. Let me put on my tinfoil hat for a second. One big concern of mine is martial law, civil war ect, would I be forced to fight against the anti government forces? What do you hear and know as a cop about what would happen and who would do that or resign or whatever?

5. What's the education like? What's it involve? Again, I need to know what I'm going to be getting into.

These are my main questions about the field, I need to know while there's hopefully still a chance to change my classes or at the latest next semester.

Been a cop for 10 years.

1. No
2. Average lifespan of a cop is 56 years.
3. Depends on the department. Expect 36k-54k base salary.
4. Shit goes down, you follow policy and procedures or at best you get fired, at worst you get arrested.
5. It's not hard by any means. I saw only about 3% of the class fail out.
>>
>>30501293
Thanks.

I should tell you that I live in Polk county FL, I don't know if that makes a difference for anything.

What education would be required? Can I go into law enforcement right out of college? Or do i need to go to some training program? Also, what about it isn't worth it anymore?

What I meant by
>But with the public attitude towards cops I'm not aware if there's any more risk (I can't really articulate what I mean) than there normally would be.
is would I be at more risk to get shot by a dindu in a regular traffic stop that I would if all this shit wasn't happening?

First, tell us you're not going to a for profit career school. Second, get the Bachelor's degree. If you live in a state where few departments will hire you without certification, pay for yourself to go to an academy. You'll easily get a part time job and will have much better chances of getting a full time job.

1. Yes, but, that answer depends on where you're working
2. Yes, a 12+ pound duty belt and riding in a car for 8-12 hours per day
3. This depends on where you work and it's relative to the cost of living in that area.
4. Take off the tinfoil hat
5. Are you talking about the academy? It's geared so a public school grad should have no trouble. Each state is different, but, in my state depending on the certification it can be 200 hours to 1500 hours of classroom training before certification.

Anyone want to share Crusade era weapons that might still be useful against half naked savages?

A machete would really depend on the style and finish. I don't want some piece of shit cheapo metal stamp.

I love cold steel, but a gladius isnt really a crusader weapon. Ill go review their stock tho.
