What does /k/ think about air rifles?
>>30607913
they're rifles that use a spring or compressed air to move a pellet at decent velocities
>>30607913
PCP is GOAT
>>30607913
Good for squirrel and cheaper then .22LR.
Need a good rifle. Budget is $500 and under. Bullet cost doesn't matter. Pic unrelated.
SKS or Mosin.
Both are good rifle, SKS is closer to budget limit, though.

you're either gonna rob a bank or you're one of them BLM terrorists. in either case, fuck off.
>>30607783
I just essentially bought an entire M16A1 for only 525.00 so I guess a basic AR15 is a pretty good choice
Why do people talk shit about stamped steel?
>>30607605
>Implying this gun isn't revered solely due to the average consumer's belief that expense is an accurate measure of quality.
They're really great guns despite being dated desu. The truth is, if these guns were being sold as dirt cheap $300 surplus anons would be calling them garbage and building AR-15s instead. We see swiss anons clamoring for budget tier AR-15s all the time at well above tangible value. Same thing with the Swiss guns stateside.
>>30607605
They do?
>>30607675
cool story there, but I meant guns with stamped receivers in general

So I currently own a few pistols and rifles, but for a self defense purpose a pistol isn't very reliable to instantly take down an attacker (you have to hit the central nervous system)
Stun guns can provide an instant take down, but they also aren't always guaranteed. I see videos all the time of cops using them on some drugged up dude and the suspect not going down.
So, my question is. Is this because cops aren't allowed to use a taser that's over a certain power threshold since they are supposed to be non-lethal? Are there stun guns on the market (or are you able to modify them in such a way) that would almost give you a 100% result on a take down by increased voltage/amps?
Get a tsun gun instead. They can be imported cheaply, are legal even in Japan, and can shoot up to 600 deres per minute.
>>30607333
Not really, more a question of proper deep skin contact. A more reliable stun gun would fire fuck off large prongs at very high speed. Of course that would cause ugly lacerations and might fuck up a body part by going too deep.
Just want to add, I'm basically looking for a way to guarantee a take down before someone could return fire on you. With a pistol you most likely aren't dropping them immediately so there is a good chance you get shot back at.
My thought was with a stun gun you probably have a better shot instantly stopping them, and you could also carry something like a bond arms snake slayer, tase them, pull out the snake slayer and pop them in the head.

According to that other thread, 99% of situations where shots are fired, only use 1-2 rounds.
This would be so much easier to actually pocket carry and conceal in casual clothes.
Anybody use one?
No because that would feel horrible in your hands and likely shoot for shit. Just get a pocket 380 with an actual magazine and ergonomics that don't feel like shit. They don't print at all in your pocket.
>>30606631
1. It would feel horrible in your hands while shooting
2. Two rounds sometimes is not enought. Imagine more than 2 guys attacking you
3. You can miss those 2 shots
Oh hello.
This may be a really dumb question, but bear with me
If the velocity of .308 is 940 meters per second
And the velocity of 5.56 is the same
Why do people use 308 instead of 556 for precision rifles?
Bigger round, more powder=Better stopping power/takedown power when hunting.
>>30606472
Because one bullet is bigger? Jesus even a no guns can figure this out if he paid attention to middle school physics.
Obviously the wind will move it less. And it delivers more energy. And travels a longer distance.
>>30606472
Fire both at a range, you'll figure out the difference very quickly.

So I feel like my Slr is complete, debating whether or not in the future I should add a light.. Its tactifool enough and I don't want to add much forward weight.
TL;DR I'm happy with my Slr and my birthday present to myself.

That was me in 2005, if our boys deploy again, I'll send him that, a pic of my daughter, some chew, and I want some dead hajjis in return. Semper fucking fidelis.
Any way to get one of these beautiful guns? It's basically my holy grail at this point to find. I'm willing to spend 1,500-2,000 yet I can't find a seller that doesn't high ball or have bidding online. Sucks they stopped imports long ago of these, any way to petition to Finnish government to send us some of their surplus ones? I mean they have rifles in both 556 and 762 might as well pick a caliber or just modernize.
You have good taste in AK's I have one in .223 just like your picture.
>>30605874
only SCAR and MG3 that came with the Leopards shoot 5.56. And we arent letting go of any of our RK62 or RK95 because we dont have surplus, but rather we dont have enough of either of them. Sako still might have some parts of the production line stashed somewhere, but you would need to petition Beretta to start making them again and with exporting them to America being a pain in the ass and market for rifles like this being small in Europe there is basically a no chance of you getting new one, ever.
And we did start to modernize them recently

Is the Mosin Nagant truly the best shooter for the money?
I thought Mosins were just a meme but once I started looking into buying a bolt-action rifle, I realized that it's not easy finding a decent rifle that can shoot all day without overheating. Not unless you want to spend an asston of money.
Do I go for a Ruger American? Or a hex M39?
> I realized that it's not easy finding a decent rifle that can shoot all day without overheating. Not unless you want to spend an asston of money.
Actually it is easy. Just go with milsurp guns instead of bench queens. The Mosin Nagant will survive nearly anything but make damn sure you get the bolt working smoothly every time before you take it in the woods.
>>30605756
>Is the Mosin Nagant truly the best shooter for the money?
Go back even a couple years and the answer would probably be yes.
Nowadays surplus 54r is twice the price and so are mosins.
>>30605904
So does that mean a m39 isn't a good buy for $350? What other decent shooter can I get for under $500?
NoGuns here, considering his first gun.
Opinions on the Springfield M1A?
>>30605689
Fun gun. Accurate, good irons, great history, heavy...though it is a battle rifle.
Price of ammo and mags will aggravate you over time regardless of how much money you have. Buy in bulk if possible. There is still very good surplus floating around but don't overpay for it. Unfortunately its been so long since I've purchased 7.62Nato in bulk that I don't know what "overpay" means any longer.
>>30605714
Not op but what are your thoughts on using strippers at first until I get a deal on 7.62? I am aware it is less practical than changing mags but dammit it is fun
>>30605736
nothing wrong with strippers for casual shooting

So I bought an Ishapore 2a 1965 7.62 NATO a few days ago. I posted a thread but I still have an issue that I haven't found much about online.
When chambering a new round (loading one at a time because magazine spring is dead) it is very difficult to lock bolt into battery.. I've heard about screwing the bolt head farther down?
Also it has a pretty nasty coat of black paint all over it and it's dirty. I know I want to clean it and I've read a few different ways to do so, but should i also strip the paint and re-coat? Pic related is a gun with no paint, I'll post mine next for comparison
There's apparently an ongoing/long time debate about .308win vs 7.62 NATO. this gun is rated for milspec 7.62 NATO and because of a generous headspace it's not"recommended" to fire .308 commercial
Anyone know a cheap brand of milspec 7.62 or lightish loaded 308? I've found ZQI and I'm wondering about steel case Tulammo or brown bear

Any guesses of how long this facog would last on a 556 AR? Would it be worth the $29 to test it, or should I save for a nice vortex or burris? http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Trijicon-ACOG-1x32-crosshair-Green-and-Red-dot-Scope-with-red-dot-sight-Tactical-Shooting-Hunting/32652975763.html
Haven't used that one. I had a $100 red dot that broke on the first round of .223 so that wouldn't do any better most likely. Svae for a vortex.
>>30605003
There are two problems with super cheap optics
>fragile as fuck
Overcome this by treating it like glass
>wandering zero
You dont overcome this it just plain sucks
I run BSA pmrgs on a 12g slug gun and .308 but they are cheap where im at. The bushnell trs 25 has always been recommended to me.
>>30605089
First time I shot an AR, it had a trs on it. They're great little sights, but they just don't look right on a full size rifle. I would highly recommend them.
