Since no one is talking, maybe a standard AR with chrome lining in the barrel so it isn't a piss off to clean while being able to prevent corrosion much easier especially if you live along the coastal areas.

Something like the Colt LE6920 is the most standard of standard ARs. Purely milspec and will run you a thousand bucks. This is probably the best buy you can make if you don't plan on building an AR. Some say it's overpriced and that you're paying for a rollmark, but I haven't seen anything below the price range that has chrome lining, all standard AR features, full milspec that you can buy off the shelf. There are much better ARs you can buy (not build), but those cost way more than the LE6920.

Just go and shop around. Do your research as to what you want. Go to gun shops, check if they actually still have any stocks of ARs or AKs or Saigas or whatever else fucking semiauto that's in their stock, because I've been to some of my local gun shops, and some of them have already sold out their ARs and AKs (can't have that shit in stock once 2017 hits). I think that ammunition purchases is actually a bit more important, as well as cleaning supplies, slings, upgrade parts, optics, storage, spare parts, tools, etc. These costs rack up. Still, that should be like just 3 grand unless you decide to buy a shitload of ammo. If you decide to buy Gucci brand parts like Geissele triggers and Aimpoints, it's going to cost more. But you can probably buy them in the future rather than now.

Remember that the LE6920's shit is the most basic for a 300 yard gun. You can think about melonite barrels, nickel boron BCGs, etc, but what that has is the basic thing most ARs should have from the shelf. If you can find the civilian version of the FN carbine the US military uses, that's also a good milspec AR. Probably better than the Colt, but who really knows.

hold it right to reduce recoil. proper stance should make it tolerable without adding anything.
adding weight is a cheap and easy method. you can add an aftermarket recoilpad like a limbsaver to decrease felt recoil.

You're probably pushing the gun sideways with your trigger pull. I had a horrible problem with this for the first few months I started shooting handguns, my groups were decent size but always a few inches off to the left at 10 yards. Focus on a steady trigger pull, no jerking, and see if that helps improve things.
