Is it doable, /k/? I like the idea of the curve, but it's a taurus. Would a gunsmith be able to make it a more solid handgat? What would they even do?

What if Nazi Germany was able to instill the type of fanatical resistance the muhahideen had against the Soviet Union?

To the point that everyone without exception, 10 years after the fall of Berlin, even an 8 year old child would be willing to grab a kitchen knife and die to gunfire or atomic bombing than surrender to a soviet or allied soldier. Every single German body possessed by the same spirit of resistance and guerrilla warfare.

Could they have lasted as long as Afghanistan did?

Well, they obviously didn't fight as hard as the Afghan's. Nor nearly as long.

They even surrendered. Afghanistan didn't.
>>
they probably would have if their leaders didnt "commit suicide" and instead told them to fight to the death for their people. probably would have ended up being the end of the german race seeing as how more than half of their best men had already died in conventional combat.

/k/ knows much about military history. What was the First World War fought FOR? All the major participants had plenty of land and wealth before the war. What did they think they were going to gain?

Basically, Germany wanted to prove it wasn't a diplomatic pushover, France wanted revenge for the Franco-Prussian war, Russia didn't want to appear weak after the Russo-Japanese War, and Austria-Hungary was trying to stave off its inevitable decline.

So basically WWI was caused purely by pride and blind nationalism on all sides.

I found it boring as fuck. Small bore means .22lr and air pellets. It feels just like shooting a single loading airsoft. Pistols are a bit more fun.
However I'm more interested in the internals and power of guns. If you can find joy in being accurate you can have a lot of fun with this.

Im looking for a new pistol for a range gun and possible winter CC and hunting side arm. i want a full size pistol in any caliber really capable of killing a black bear (around 350-450 pounds is largish in my area) or the more likely coyote and bobcat attack.

was thinking of a beretta 96, 10mm 1911, or a sig or glock in 357 sig. Im not sure if im strong enough to hangle a 44 magnum reliably in a panic situation since ive never fired one.

anyone have any good recomendations?

French Army is going to replace his FAMAS with the HK 416. What's your opinion on this rifle guys?

What's your opinion on the FAMAS as well?
Personnally I tried it and it is a good rifle, very adjustable with no recoil at all which makes it extremely precise with the sights only. I don't get why they're going to replace it to be honest.
35 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>31327134
I think 416 will be scrapped for an indigenous design, there's already a lawsuit in the works against french government procurement.

Unlike most other procurement french soldiers were not included on it and a lot of local commanders have gone up in uproar.

FAMAS is a good rifle, we got to use it when the french came over to train with us. Its light and ergonomic. Recoil so light its like shooting a pistol.

Only downside is the Sight is too High on the non FELIN spec rifles. And the controls are a little odd.

It's typical of the French Army. It should have an R&D department by now, but she has outsourced everything and is incapable of development. It's ridiculous to see what a mess this is.

I can get a new 4x ACOG for just a hair over $1000, how do they stack up compared to newer optics like the Elcan fixed 4x for a fairly lightweight AR?

Now that's a fucking torture test.

It is really up to you OP. A lot of people will say ACOG.

I'm more a fan of the ELCAN's due to their cross hairs and just hands on experience.

ACOGs are great, go for it. The ELCAN os great too, but I think the ACOG is smaller and lighter.

I was reading some stuff about some guns, when I encountered this sentence in the wiki article of the M9

>In 2007, soldiers in the field had a lot of concerns with the M9, notably a lack of confidence in its stopping power[15] resulting from the use of the 9mm ball round, a significant factor in military evaluations because the Hague Conventions (1899 and 1907) prohibit use of expanding bullets in warfare.
>Hague Conventions (1899 and 1907) prohibit use of expanding bullets in warfare.

What is the point of these war conventions?
Obviously insurgents are never going to follow them, an I'm not sure about first world countries' armies either.

And especially in this case, what's the fucking point of limiting the use of expanding bullets? Is placing a non-HP bullet in someone's lungs more humanitarian in some way? I'm probably missing the point but this sounds so fucking hypocritical to me

Believe it or not, the point of shooting people isn't just to kill them. A wounded soldier takes more supplies and manpower to take care of than a dead one.

I see the thread is starting with this tired old lie.

That is not why the conventions limit 'unnecessarily deadly/cruel' ammo and its bizarre people keep desperately pretending it is. You idiots said the same thing about the M16.

In all seriousness how do you think you'd fare in an all out SHTF situation, say we have taken a full nuclear first strike which happened to be targeted at a mixture of countervalue and counterforce targets.
60 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
S can HTF in more than one way you know. If a nuclear exchange happened without any political warning signs (highly unlikely) I'd be out of luck since I don't hoard years worth of supplies along with functional breathing equipment and live in the fallout range of a major city.

I stock for about two weeks and I think that's totally fine. I live totally safe from natural disasters, so short of economical collapse I am not worried.
>>
>>31326634
I won't be affected by nuclear hellfire directly due to being in an irrelevant commonwealth that lost strategic importance due to the ending of the cold war. However, there will be rise of civil unrest and a push to self sufficiency due to the mainland being unable to provide supplies. There will also be political instability between the political parties (Especially the Independistas and Macheteros) Then there's the risk of fallout hitting thr islands from the winds. Since I already live in the countey side, it'll be business as usual but with a higher risk of being attacked and lack of industrial goods and toiletries. Only time it'll end being business as usual is when the cities begin to starve

It depends. If im stuck in the middle of an urban area I have a small BOB in my truck (that I really need to upgrade), but I think id be ok roaming the streets. or if im at my house Id stand a way better chance because thats where all my shit is
either way my main goal is to fuck off to my secret cabin out in the country and watch the whole thing play out from there. Aside from some scavenging and exploring the situation to say I did, I dont feel a need to hang around the populated areas and encounter danger
