I use to be a sniper in the army. Now I'm a coastie bored as fuck on duty. Ask me anything.

The very first thing to identify a poser is when they say, "I was a sniper."
What rate did you go into? I'm a 13F thinking about making the switch.

Are optics on a carry gun a bad idea? Most defensive shootings the shooter has no opportunity or ability to use the irons and its purely point shooting, but an optic could help with that.
Pros:
Faster target acquisition
Works from unideal positions irons don't
Works great in low light
Cons:
expensive
little bit more bulk
little bit more weight
possible snag hazard
Are the benefits not worth the price of admission? 99% of people seem to carry with stock guns and they work perfectly fine but an advantage is an advantage.
I don't think so. More likely to snag on something than be useful. Just aim center of mass while you're close and mag dump.

MISSOURI IS NOW A CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY STATE
Missouri SB656 (http://www.senate.mo.gov/16info/BTS_Web/Bill.aspx?SessionType=R&BillID=22246426) passed both the Senate and House to override Gov. Nixon's veto.
Woooooo Missouri!

Good.
Did they put a poison pill in the legislation? Something like a mandatory two-thirds majority to repeal it or something? Because they'll try, you know. They'll keep at it every year.
oh boy
Is morale a weapon? How important is "just cause" in warfighting effectiveness? Do enlisted soldiers actually care about higher ideals at all? Is "caucus belli" a spook?
Moral usually turns out to be an otis spunkmyer muffin at 3am... one of those and you can take down the titans
>>31332797
Having a leader worth following into battle is infinitely more valuable than having just a worthy cause. Often times, a great leader IS the cause soldiers consider to be worth fighting and dying for.
>>31332797
Morale is a great weapon. I use it all the time!
Destroy it and the enemy drops their weapons and runs. Or even shoots their leaders in thr back.
Build it up and your unit will be motivated to run missions no matter how bad they suck.

“Nobody believes in it. You’re like, ‘Fuck this,’” a former Green Beret says of America’s covert and clandestine programs to train and arm Syrian militias. “Everyone on the ground knows they are jihadis. No one on the ground believes in this mission or this effort, and they know they are just training the next generation of jihadis, so they are sabotaging it by saying, ‘Fuck it, who cares?’”
“I don’t want to be responsible for Nusra guys saying they were trained by Americans,” the Green Beret added. A second Special Forces soldier commented that one Syrian militia they had trained recently crossed the border from Jordan on what had been pitched as a large-scale shaping operation that would change the course of the war. Watching the battle on a monitor while a drone flew overhead, “We literally watched them, with 30 guys in their force, run away from three or four ISIS guys.”

What trigger is that?
What is the best Kind of optic one would get for a precision rifle?
Nightforce
Leopold
Schmidt Bender
Zeiss
In terms of price, one that is equal to or exceeding the cost of the rifle.
Leopould and Zeiss are pretty much standards.
Night Force, Schmidt & Bender and US Optics are generally regarded as the highest quality

Really helps conceptualize what the vietnam war was about, and why american troops had a tough time fighting vietcong. You fight a guerilla army with anti-guerilla tactics. A very dirty war.

I've heard that book is basically a work of fiction though. Like people can't find the records of any of these people involved.
I live in a student housing center, and was wondering if I could have a parts kit for something like a CETME L in my room.
Now considering that parts kits are not firearms and are unrestricted, as they're only bits of metal and plastic without the receiver, is there any reason why not? I can't find any rules regulating it in anything I agreed to, and it's unrestricted by general laws, but my RA asked "higher ups" and they said no, but didn't give a real reason.
Do they have a right to restrict arbitrary items? This is similar to if I asked, "Can I have a spoon?" and they just say no and point to no reason or rules.
I know /k/ isn't the place for legal advice, but I figured I'd try to figure out who is in the right here.
>>31332186
Legally yes, whether that breaks the rules is up to your Administration
>>31332197
Scratch that, if it's against the rules then I think that makes it against the law
>>31332197
They said there's no rules restricting it, but It might make a RA that comes in for a room check think it's a violation, it which case I could explain that it isn't. Is there anything I could do if both parties have recognized there is no rule against it, but they say no just because? Again, they're just restricting arbitrary things at this point. Thanks for the input though.

Nitrocellulose is a primary component in gunpowder production. Currently, when it's shipped, it's wetted to make it less explosive and even safer for transport. Me (along with many other people) are guessing they want to reclassify it so it becomes too expensive to produce gunpowder and fill ammo. The government recently purchased massive amounts of ammunition, so it seems to reason that they want to control how much ammo civilians can have. Take from that what you will.
More info if you want to read it up

>>31331685
Didn't the ATF realize they fucked up when they discovered that gun cotton has more uses beyond propellant such as medical research?
>>31331755
Yes, they tuck their tail between their legs and ran away crying
OP....you mean gun cotton (that's what's in your pic)?
Nitrocellulose is so simple to make. Whether the easy to make stuff is viable for use in firearm ammo is another story. I'm talking simply ping pong balls (or old billiard balls) and acetone. Whether that can be refined for ammo use, I don't know as I've never looked into it.
With the meth epidemic, and now what you're saying, makes me wonder when acetone will become a controlled substance requiring either a DEA number or type 6 ffl to purchase....
