air rifle thread.

New to air rifles? Have a question? Shoot.

inb4 "herp derp, /toy/ is that way ->", air rifles are suitable for hunting small game like rabbits and squirrels, and superior to firearms for pest control, because they can be safely used in places firearms cannot.

Also - high power air rifles can bring down medium-large game (like hogs and deer).

and because I feel like showing off, pic related is my new tx200hc.

I have a 13 year old BSA Meteor .22 that couldn't hit a barn door and failed to kill a pigeon at 20 yards once (or we have particularly tough pigeons) so i am in the market for something better. So far i've narrowed it down to an Air Arms S410 or a BSA Gold Star SE for PCP or perhaps just a decent spring/gas ram gun instead.

How is the TX200HC?

heavy. Not actually an issue (you want some extra weight on an air rifle, especially a springer), but you really feel the 5 kilograms with scope (more or less) this thing weighs.

It's really sweet to shoot though. Pic related (lower left target, one shot, dead center) is me checking my zero today at 20m.

It was slightly windy today, but best I can figure (until I sit down and do it properly), there's a 1 mil-dot holdover at 30m, and 4.25 mil-dot at 50m, secondary zero is somwhere near 28m (primary at 20) with 15.89 grain pellets.

By comparison, a s400/410 (410 is just a 400 with a magazine that gets in the way of a large SF wheel) has a 1.5 mil-dot holdover at 50m (primary zero at 25), but that's .177 for you.

picture is sideways. This is a 1mm thick steel dinger that the .22 pellet put a visible dent in at 50m (flight time maybe 0.5-0.75 seconds).

What else can I say - it's a world championship winning gun in HFT2.

Anyone had any experience with pic related in 40sw?
I have been shooting it with 180grain FMJ-FP from Pmc and it is accurate to around 20 feet. Then after that it will have a grouping of about a foot in diameter.

Maybe try cast bullets. The FMJs may not engage the rifling properly and the bullets are tumbling

So I am going over to the sandbox. Pic is of my M4. I would like to get a multiplier that would work with it. But I am stuck on what would be a decent couple of choices as well as the mount. Probably the mount more than anything.

I can't really change the mount/optic that is on the M4 of course.

Suggestions?

Hey /k/ i am pretty new to guns and I have two quick questions.

1. Why is the 7.62x39mm cartrdige called "7.62" when it's bullet diameter is actually 7.92mm

2. Why is weight of a bullet measured in "grains" rather than in grams like everything else?

Russians measure caliber differently. Might be from between lands instead of grooves or something, can't remember.

>2. Why is weight of a bullet measured in "grains" rather than in grams like everything else?

Tradition, and because within the firearms industry it's already standardized the world over so it would be pointless to change it.

Pic related. With operations winding down (for the most parts), it appears that Western militaries are entering another phase of peace-time.

So would veterans of future wars still succumb to the GWOT sub-culture, or somehow move beyond it?

Hey /k/, haven't been here in a while, but my Makarov was confiscated by the local PD and I need a replacement today. Probably open to anything under $1k that is reasonably concealable.

Short version of the story:
>girlfriend's sister steals dying dad's car
>we call the police
>"lol that's a family matter leave us alone"
>alrighty
>steal car back (we had keys)
>come home
>paranoid as fuck because sister's husband hangs around with some shady fucks
>around 3:10 am one of these shady fucks is heard turning on the engine of the car
>grab Mak
>run out side naked
>"Get the fuck out of the car!"
>target does not comply
>shoot out at least one of the tires
>fucking Mak double feeds 4 round into my barrage
>cops intercept vehicle
>"lol even though a stranger may have possibly tried to run you down, it's still a family matter"
>"oh, and we need your Mak for evidence"
>still paranoid as fuck
>only other funs in the house are WASR and Mini14

So I need a CC today.

So, Cold War small arms' munitions basically do nothing against modern body armor. Latest standard issue US helmets completely stop even 7,62x54R, with no ill-effects for the infantryman. There are multiple reports of US infantry in combat being shot and not even noticing it until they saw holes in the uniform.

It can be expected that within a few years this technology would become widespread. Doesn't that mean that a revolution in small arms is a necessity at this point? Otherwise all infantry combat will turn into a real-life video game, where everyone has to be shot 100 times for it to have any effect.
Pic related is how next standard issue "rifle" will have to look unless something is done.

I've seen several of these threads around, but haven't really looked at them. But in today's military is getting an Airborne qualification more of a personal accomplishment rather then a military necessity?

SF generally already has an airborne capacity, so what is the real benefit to have units solely tasked with jumping out of a plane? Is it just another tool in the box?

Apparently you don't either. Combined arms doesn't mean paratrooper vs leg infantry you fucking retard. The qualifications of the infantry have no meaning in the "combine arms" sense.

>Pilots have 2nd most armored cockpit aside from Chinese WZ-10 Super Apache

And they still use Duct Tape for their Helicopter Guns.

Now you'll say I should not say they should just buy Chinese. But you have to be sensible, even by Chinese standards, Duct Tape is not for military equipment. Has the Soviet brains truly moved to America and Russia has no intellectual capacity left after the collapse?

They really should've just bought Chinese.

I was debating to post this in /pol/ or here, I figured there would be more meaningful discussion here.

Taking a break at my hotel room tonight and when I crack open todays paper I see this.

Nice to know that the USA Today's official standpoint on firearm ownership is whatever Bloomberg tells them to print.

Anyone read/hear similar statements from their media outlets of choice lately?

Wow, really says it all doesn't it when a newspaper has an official "view". Also the (noticeably smaller) article by the sheriff actually includes facts and examples and is far better written.

Also
>muh big money
>muh twisted logic
>muh political clout
Fuckin kek, cuz Bloomberg is neither big money nor political clout and their "logic" includes using a mass shooting where the shooter bought his gun at a gunstore with a background check as a reason why we need background checks.
