Get a pic kit and work on one of your doors, or a spare doorknob. (attach it to a block of wood, cutter kits at lowes/home depot for $20)
watch youtube videos to learn basic technique
the key (lol) to getting good at picking is using the right pressure on your tension wrench
and once youve gotten a few different locks picked and feel confident with your ability
get a pick gun because its a billion times easier/faster
$50 for a good one (google locksmith pickgun)
dont get pulled over and let them find your kit you can get arrested for it.

This. You'll feel the tumblers stay up if you're doing it right. Once you get that down you can just rake it in a handful of seconds on 95% of locks.

Best advice I can give is to speak to other LEOs in your area and find out what handgun, flashlight, etc. most of them seem to be using.

Pick something similar so you can use the same magazines and batteries should you run out in a hairy situation for whatever reason.
