Hey guys! I am considering purchasing my first firearm and CZ 455 .17 HMR would be my first choice.
It's a bolt action action with a small 5 bullets magazine. I would get something semi-automatic like SKS but getting a license for that is pretty hard in my country.
Would the gun be decent for self defense? I am unfamiliar with callibers besides knowing that .22 is mostly non lethal. My other pick would be a .308 bolt action Ruger Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated.

Think about it this way
The three calibers you mentioned are measured in diameter by inches meaning that a .22 is .22 of an inch in diameter. Same with .17 and .308
Now can you kill with .17 even though it's smaller than .22? Sure you can, just as you can kill with .22
Of course to a lot easier to kill with bigger rounds so .308 is going to be best bet
The REAL limiting factor here is that you're looking exclusively at bolt actions. Self defense is all about a good mix between good aim and unloading as many projectiles at your target until it stops moving ergo higher capacity=easier ded
If you want self defense the best bet is a pistol or semi auto but you said that it's hard to get in your country so you may want to check laws on self defense too, usually you never get cucked in just one way

Hey /k/ommandos I'm 18 and im a bit sick of college im doing comp sci but coding sucks I dont know what i wanna be in life im thinking maybe a pilot or be part of tank crew however I need an escape. I messed up bad /k/. I shot my wife in the arm via negligent discharge. She's okay, broken bone, but I hate myself.
While attempting to strip a S&W Shield, I checked the chamber and didn't see a round. I fucked up and didn't check the magazine since I had just pulled it out a few moments ago. However, she had put it back in. When i released the slide it chambered a round and I squeezed the trigger discharging the weapon.
Hornady Critical defense at less than 2 feet. It didn't expand, but went right through her arm. What hurt the most was hearing her scream. She says she trusted me to teach her the right way to be safe, and I failed. After almost 25 years of shooting I became complacent.
Who else here has had a really bad ND?
Feel free to pile on how stupid I am. I know it's coming.

so you cleared the weapon, left the slide open, set it down and left. then your wife came into the room, saw the gun, put a mag in it and left. you then picked up a fully loaded gun, released the slide, pointed it at your wife and pulled the trigger. yeah, ok.

How do I improve my 1.5 mile run time? I'm currently at 14 minutes which is disgraceful. I need 10 minutes to apply. I'm coming up to the top end of the age limit for enlistment so I need to do this fast. I'm training like mad every day but my stamina is shit. Should I try taking some Winstrol or something?

Run 5 kilometres a day and visit 5K races often.
After a month of running 5Ks start running 10 kilometres a day.
That's pretty much how I do it.
Also: Stretch often both before and after running and use muscle rollers.
