Alright, /k/. I'm pretty convinced that the world is going to end rather soon in nuclear fire. I live in Iceland and would like to know if my island would be targeted by nukes or not. We're a part of NATO, had a US base (might come back up depending on relations with Russia in the coming years). It's situated on the edge of our southern peninsula , though. Do nukes target population centers?
Are we gonna get hit?

General hazmat suit/nuclear apocalypse gear thread?

They wouldn't nuke you. They'd just cut off your supply of antidepressants and let nature run its course.

>I'm pretty convinced that the world is going to end rather soon in nuclear fire.
Stop reading /pol/ you dumb motherfucker.

And the most likely (I use that term very loosely) nuclear attack would involve ground bursts to knock out Keflavik's runways. Expect fallout.

So we know the gun community has a lot of older gentlemen in it. They all claim that the quality of guns was so much better back then. I can believe it to a certain extent with some brands. We all know the the crapfest Remingshit has turned into.

But I want to know about the new production smiths. I know, I know, the lock is bullshit, luckily it is easily removed. So lock aside, how are the new production smith's compared to the older ones?

I see people bitching about how the new ones suck and the MIM parts are prone to breaking. Yet, no excessive amounts of actual complaints on their guns.

What is /k/s verdict? Are the newer smiths pretty much on par with the older Smiths? Or is there a huge difference in quality?

>>
The biggest part of the "better quality" is the fact the fit & finish was better and there was more hand work done. Hand work has gotten too expensive (polishing etc).

MIM looks like shit but is functional. Cheaper than milling a piece out because you can mill the molds once and have a coolie run the machine to crank out the parts vs pay a CNC operator to make every single piece.. .

Functionally I have noticed no difference between old Smiths & new Smiths with the exception that the 1950's & before had smoother triggers. That could either be because they are very well broke in or have better hand fitting of the parts back when labor was cheaper.
>>
>>31896349

I would agree that firearms of the past were made more so by hand and craftsmanship then automated machines.

>I see people bitching about how the new ones suck
That can be literally any new model at this point.
>>
>>31896349

I'm no expert, but I have a heathy amount of Smith revolvers, old and new
>old
10 heavy barrel
10 pencil

>new
642 x 2
JM .45 acp
Air lite 44 magnum
classic series 29 (3 inch)
classic 21 (44 special)
the 8-shot 357 (model escapes me, thanks age)

Honestly, I think the new guns are fine, but maybe overpriced. However, there is something about the older smiths. They feel like "real" guns. I know it's not a great description, but they have some sort of quality that the new guns don't.

All in all, I will hem and haw over buying a new gun unless it's a killer deal. I will literally jump on an older (pre-lock or pinned hammer) in a heartbeat of its in good shape.

Can someone explain shotguns to me, ideally with some kind of clear slow-motion footage or something?

I've heard time and time again that with a shotgun you get a "string" of shot, and thus to hit your target you should fire with the tip of the barrel moving across your target, like you're trying to spray them with a garden hose that happens to be going 1200FPS.

Is this at all how shot acts? Should you really fire with your barrel swinging across? How much of a "string" effect is there really?

Pic related, my understanding of shotguns

Isn't all the shot in a little cup though? Shouldn't it all leave the barrel at basically the same time and spread out in a pretty much spherical pattern in the air?

The shot comes out as a mass of pellets, you cannot spray a shotgun. Life isn't a movie.

They come out grouped together. Many things can effect spread, but basically, the farther they go, the more they spread. But as >>31896370
said, they don't "spray" like the movies.

I bought this bayonet at a gun show a couple months ago. I was just looking it over and comparing it to my Russian one, and this one has almost no markings.

I was told it was East German and the frog seems to be correct but from what I can see most East German ones have serial numbers and other shit?

Mine only has two markings, a "2" on the scabbard and another "2" next to the release button. Is it special? Can anyone help me ID it?

Definitely east German. Lack of markings is odd though. Could be a repro, but based on a Soviet bloc knife instead of a real Soviet to make it easier to pass off as real deal.

Wouldn't doubt if it was real deal, though.

Load the mag. Rack the slide. Drop the mag - the mag drops, and one round is consistently ejecting from it into the mag well.

Looking through gaps around the hammer, I can see that the second round is half-stripped after the first round is chambered.

What could be the cause?

If the pic is related, it's just how the Sig p238 ejects when the mag is removed, source: I have been ccwing a p238 for 4ish years.

Ok so I got this rail mounted flashlight as a gift but it seems it is more fitted for a glock 17.

If I have it lock into the groove it's past the muzzle like pic related, and if I push it all the way back towards the trigger guard it doesn't stay in place while shooting and just ends up moving forward into the groove back into pic related position. Can I use zip ties or paracord to tie it to the trigger guard?

Inb4 "git da tlr like me"

I know, this is just temporary. The light works fine as a light it just doesn't stay in position

Caesar's "Commentaries on the Gallic War" is good, but you need to read between the lines a bit in some places. The same goes for "The History of the Peloponnesian War" by Thucydides.
