Bayonets are overrated.

Even if you disregard your better judgement and end up buying one but actually have some dignity and decide to not put it on your gun, bayonets are known to be made out of shitty metal. Bayonets themselves (from your post I'm assuming you're referring to knife bayonets) have a double edged blade, sure, but the edge won't be a good one either. And if you're good at sharpening then you'll feel sad about sharpening it to, because every single time your put your blade to that stone you'll be chipping off that $1000 you spent on your balkan knife (which you probably got only because you wish you were born 20 years earlier in some Serbian shithole of a small town).

And lets say you do the most retarded thing you can do with it, you decide to bring it with you for defense or concealed carry. Do you know what year it was made? A lot of very old shotguns are only safe with black powder. Biggest risk with an old shotgun is Damascus barrels. If it has Damascus barrels DO NOT SHOOT SMOKELESS LOADS THROUGH IT.

Use very little BLO on a rag, and don't linger on any one area for too long. It will take multiple coats with drying time.

Most places online are generally respectable. I'm not sure about the FFL transfer process, maybe someone whose done it can chime in, but I think when it arrives at wherever you set it to be picked up, you have the right to inspect it before paying. If it's terrible quality, you can send it back, but it will be at your expense, and you still gotta pay the FFL transfer fee.
