There's usually a thread that pops up every now and then about gun safety mistakes we've seen other people make.
Can we get a thread going about our own fuck-ups? I'll start with mine.
>be me, own full-size SA 1911-A1 mil-spec because meme gun
>have carry permit, 1911 is my only handgun, cc it around town (conceals pretty well actually with jacket) because why not
>yesterday hanging out with girl I met last week when we decide to go study at a coffee shop
>been ccing entire time I've been with her, but we've been outside where it was chilly and a jacket was warranted
>coffee shop is going to be warm inside, so I know I'll have to take my jacket off
>gun is also under my button-down, but would be fairly obvious once I was sitting down
>I don't want to freak out a bunch of pussies in the coffee shop with big scary gun, decide to put it in my backpack instead
>unholster, set gun on floor of car by my backpack in the back seat so I can get my shit together
>pull backpack out of car, it fucking brings the 1911 with it
>gun, round in the chamber and hammer cocked, falls from my car and hits the asphalt
>landed where it was pointing directly at her feet
>she turns around at the noise and sees me bending down to pick up gun she didn't know I had on me
Thank fuck it didn't go off. I had the safety on and everything, but this gun is older than I am and I wasn't sure it could take an impact like that. Turns out she's fine with me having it on me, but I was freaking the fuck out at having been so irresponsible. I don't think it was an outright idiotic move (as opposed to cleaning a gun while it's loaded) but I that's the kind of shit, the little things, that gets people killed.

Well /k/, I'm a beer at here but I came because I am going to be inheriting this U.S. Winchester Model of 1917 with all matching serial numbers and was made 2 months before the war's end. Does anyone have this gun? I imagine it is (((somewhat))) rare so I was wondering what I should do with it? I have always been fascinated by guns and always wanted one but have no idea how to properly care nor preserve them.
tldr: anyone have this gun and if so, got any suggestions?

Okay, first off, once you get the gun, make sure to clean and oil it. Apply a thin layer of oil to any exposed metal on the gun. And wipe it down any time you touch it to prevent surface rust from forming. If you don't already know how to field strip it, find resources online.

I found a video detailing the process for you. Other than the basics of maintaining old rifles, I'm not familiar with the 1917 specifically.

Yeah, the 1917 seems to not be as popular as the mighty 1903 but it seems like a nice rifle. I've held it in my hands already and it's decent weight. Never shot it before because since it was my Grandpa's, he didn't know how to maintain it and therefor didnt want to ruin it. Thanks for the video, btw. I'm looking forward to maintaining and eventually, shooting this gun.

That is easily one of the three worst movies I've ever seen, worse than Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. So much possibility and nothing but a let down, absolutely terrible, boring and even a little painful to watch with no redeemable quality at all, an affront to the concept of entertainment and completely, utterly not even achieving a level good enough to be called rubbish. Calling it dumb, pedantic, uninspired would all be too kind. You could find a way to put syphilis in a retail package and charge $200 for it and you'd still have a better product than this horrid disappointment.

Get the word out so the GOP can't pay lip service to rewarding us for giving them undivided government.
As all of you know, the NFA is, ostensibly, a tax. Did you know that there's an existing loophole that allows for the repeal of a tax that is absolutely filibuster-proof? It's called Reconciliation, and it's the weird process that they used to pass Obamacare.
Demand that they add a repeal of the Hughes Amendment to the HPA, and that they pass is via reconciliation. Hold any elected official to the fire if they try to pass it via normal means where the Democrats can filibuster it.

that's if you pass a bill via normal means. Some bills can pass via reconciliation, and you only need 51 votes for those: debate is limited to 24 hours, tops to pass. Since the NFA is technically a tax, amendments to it can be passed via reconciliation and bypass the standard process.

What the he'll is this? It's been around my whole life. My father claims his uncle took it from japan during ww2. It's rough tip is broken off and the sheath is fucked up due to my father throwing it around as a kid. It stands about 7 feet tall with the blade being about 3 foot. I could never figure out what it is. I'll dump more pics.

The one day I wasn't carrying my CCW because I was running in a hurry so i wouldnt be late dor work. Some beaner pulled out a gun and aimed it at me due to road rage.
