I've been fascinated with Maine for a while now and thought about buying some land here.
How are the demographics and politics?
How is the food?
How are the gun laws?
How expensive is the land?
How are the winters?
How is the weather the rest of the year?

Nice weapons post.

Demographics: As white as possible, anglos and some frenchies. The average man or women looks like they are straight out of a ccw ad.
Politics: Mixed state legislature which keeps it interesting politically, Republican governer who is as pro funs as possible, "go out and shoot drug dealers"-actual lepage quote. Known for being solid blue state but north is really republican with a liberal massachusetts south which levels us out, gave one of four electoral votes to trump. Overall its a really good place politically, with both sides being really moderate and accepting.
Food- Not really much going for it but not much going against it.
-Pros: Clam Chowder, Lobster, Blueberries, Potatoes
-Cons: Not very many restaurants unless bangor or southerner
Gun Laws- Almost Vermont tier- list is too long to list but if you want it , we got it. Just voted down universal background checks. We have constitutional carry, nfa for days, tons of gun ranges all over, hunting and snowmobile are pretty much official state sport, open carry, and no minor possesion laws unless shit goes down. Ultimately one of the best place to be in country for guns.
Land- Not quite sure, prices are ok if you wanna be near civilization but northern maine is one of the least dense parts of the country, plent of land up here to build ultimate hickock 45 range if u desire.
-Winters are bad but thats how we like it, snowmobiling and some skiing although i go to NH. If you live in a small town power and road clearing can be a problem in Blizzards but i love winter so no complaints from me (inb4 oil bill for this year has come in)
-Rest of year great fall and spring, summer has been good for the last while. We are technically in a drought so we have had great weather w/out rain, but one of the wettest places in the world underground so crops are doing fine.
Overall- love it as long as you dont spend time in cuck south and can find a decent job. hope u consider
This shit pisses me off so fucking much. Right delayed is a right denied you cock suckers. I was unable to complete 2 transfers today because of these assholes

NICS is down for everyone, dealers don't have access. Nothing to do with my browsing habits. Why do you have to be an imbecile
Sup /k/
So there's this cool shop locally, it's run by a very old Italian man I suspect to be a closet-Fascist. Really cool shop with lots of old guns, antiques, jewelry, etc.
ANYWAYS, he's got a lot of cool older German militaria, including:
-Iron cross medal
-Multiple luftwaffe badges
-Waffen SS wristwatches
-Nazi letter opener
-Nazi wounded/twice wounded badges
-Other assorted WW1/WW2 medals, some Austro-Hungary stuff
Now, he told me right off the bat and pointed to one of the Luftwaffe badges was assuredly fake, along with the Iron Cross medal. He fed me some story about how
"Yes, they are fake as in they are not wartime production. However, they were made on the original tooling used during war, as reproducing and selling these medals to foreign servicemen and tourists was very profitable in post-war Germany and Eastern Europe".
If that's the case, a few of them might still have some historical value (to me at least), but I'd have to get them for like $50.
I'm also 99% sure his "waffen SS watches" are fake. They do indeed look old, and have various european maker's marks, but they have white faces and various SS division emblems on the faces, which I don't think was ever a wartime design. According to what I've seen online, the Ukraine produced a vast quantity of Waffen SS watches with dubious history.
I'm gonna take pictures to show y'all next time I go, but does anyone know any good sources for authenticating these antiques? What should I be looking for?
Would love to get a good deal on some old militaria. Maybe he has some stuff he thinks is fake, but is actually genuine? The dude is so old and swarthy I doubt he knows as much as he claims.
pic related: The watches are very similar to this design. Not exact, but they're small white faces with an SS division emblem on either side.
>>32042275
I'm really interested in the letter opener. It's looks exactly like this except I want to say the handle is of a different color. He was asking $275.

here's another badge/medal, no idea its origin

With the current trend of the British navy to buy hyper over priced and under performing vessels.....
Would it be better if we just bought a shitton of Independence class LCS and just used them instead of designing the new frigates that will fit inbetween the Type-45s and Type-26s?
They are already functional and it's not like equipment differences between the US and Britain are a real obstacle when we openly trade technology.
I think buying a mess load of LCS for $350 million a shot and using them instead of our 'new' Type-31s when the design is finalised would result in a better bang for our buck.
Or just buy Khareef-class vessels and get 3x as many as we'd get for the LCS.
Britain doesn't need to be at the cutting edge of naval force. We just need a functional and effective navy for anti-piracy and policing our naval interests.
Falling for the carrier meme and buying hyper modern designs that fall flat and under perform and/or cost 3x as much as projected initially has been a major fucking problem for British procurement for the last 30 years.
We don't need to have all the shit we keep buying to keep our shit safe. There's no foreseeable opponent anymore. USSR is gone. China is the other side of the world. Germany will fold under her own Turkish tumours and the US isn't worth competing with.
I think having a bunch of rapid response frigate level ships with mission modularity and then a dedicated role for a handful of other ships is a better buy than what we will probably get from our current desires.
>>32042108
How about they unfuck themselves and try to resemble the mighty nation they once were.
>>32042134
And how would they do that?
>>32042148
He won't have an answer. He's some daft American who thinks there's a good reason to have carriers to protect your own nation from your surrounding allies.
>>32042134
Because there's no reason to 'resemble' a mighty nation. We are 60 million people that are batting at the economic clout of country's with 20x our population through trade.
We don't need to be floating £10 billion tax sinks to keep our interests in order. Wasting money on inefficient shit like the US is pointless. Having a fleet of LCS style vessels or even those ultra tiny Norwegian corvettes with the 76mms would be INFINITELY more effective for the British Navy instead of trying fulfill some bogus military agreement that was meant to stave off a super power instead of bombing brown people that probably didn't even know what a jet was before it came and blew up their camel farm.
Britain shouldn't be about force projection into potential enemy territory anymore. It should be about keeping our interests protected and having enough of a navy that the French and Spanish don't consider taking back their old claims.
The only reasonable opponent we could use our carriers for is Argentina and our air base on the Falklands is better equipped than their entire air force. Not to mention we have Type-45 and an Astute perpetually stationed in the area and both of those could wipe out their entire military before it got within response range.
How about a thread of historical batshit insane, but cool as heck, stories?
I'll bump too

So, I need a shotgun, but I'm on a budget.
Right now, I'm looking for any cheap, single-shot shotgun out their. Anything good?
>>32041616
gunbroker usually has good cheap single shots, look for H&R shotguns
yours may not, but my local walmart has an $89 single shot 12ga called the hatfield or some shit.
>>32041633
Yeah, My local range is selling a couple of those used for pretty cheap. Think I might get one
>>32041638
Just wondering: Why can't I find anything on these shotguns? I've seen them out there, but I can't find a whole lot about them.
Best $350 CCW pistol? I'll probably buy used to hit this price point. G43 is out of my price range. I'm looking at:
>Kek Arms CM9
>Jewger LC9s (pro or std depending on what's on armslist)
Have you fired either of these pistols?
Shield. Period.
>>32041551
>implying gun shops in my area have these guns to rent
I'm pretty much stuck buying one used and reselling it if I hate it.
Besides, they are fucking pocket pistols. They will both suck to shoot.
>>32041554
Too expensive.
What exactly is a rigger's belt and why do all the tacticool companies make one?
You can attach a fairly substantial amount of gear to them without them twisting or getting uncomfortable. They're essentially the next generation of ALICE gear: and are ideal for actually operating imo.
>>32041472
Real riggers belts allow you to hook up for a fast rope or carry your weight on an emergency line if you dun goof off the side of a helicopter.
Aside from that rigger's belts being thick and stiff make them good for hanging pistols and a few pouches off of as a byproduct of the design.
Operators wear them, so now tactical companies make all sorts for for wannabes.
It typically has a carabiner loop so you could use it to rappel in an emergency. They were originally marketed towards firefighters and first responders but have since migrated into the tactical arena.
How does 54R compare to .308 Winchester?
>>32041425
About the same, though the x54 has slightly greater case capacity so, in theory, you can make some hotter loads for it. But why you'd want to is beyond me.
>>32041425
You're not going to notice much of a difference unless you're firing at distances where you'd need a scope. Either one is fine for everyday rifle shenanigans.
>>32041425
It has a rim while 7.62RFN does not.
I've seen some connecticucks around and was wondering how many are on here? Where are great places to shoot? Any good LGS? General CT thread.
>>32041293
Former ctfag. Newington gun exchange has some good milsurp, but pricy. Try to haggle them down. Cabelas has best selection of ammo, and unlike their guns it's priced decently for the area. Shooting wise.... Best off joining a club, I neve found a public place I really enjoyed. However Glastonbury does have a free (state sponsored) shooting range in the summer though, was fun when I went.
>>32041503
Is there a waiting period for purchasing long guns? Different websites seem to have different information?
>>32041621
No, but you need a long gun permit or concealed carry permit.
There's been a trend lately with guys running their guns in war and duty without BUIS. The keyboard warrior response seems greatly apposed to this idea.
I can see either side.
What do you all think?

I got issued an A.R.M.S. 40L sight at my unit for my C7A2 or C8A3 and I don't use it. The Elcan C79A2 is a tough motherfucker and if it actually breaks (I've never seen one actually break from use in 10+ years in the CF with three tours) I'll still have dozens of retards around me with working sights so idgaf.
>>32041272
Things like ACOGs, Aimpoints and the MRO are retardedly durable. ACOGs are actually more durable than the M16's. Frank Proctor has an excellent video on this exact subject on youtube
Eh. Its a bad idea not to have a backup, but if the ounces-mean-pounds shit is more important to you then I guess its your prerogative.
San Diego here, recently arrived Sailor. Are there any kommandos here who can advise as to a good outdoor rifle range near SD? Looking for a way to relax this weekend, meet with the local kommando support group. Y'all up for shooting Saturday or Sunday?

I just realized my guns and I can live on a tropical island protected by the US constitution and military. Is puto rico filled with latin booty and cocktails and freedoms or is it a favela island? Any good gun ranges, hunting, ammo availability?

What the fuck is supposed to be special about it?
For those of us in the market for night vision, what are some things to look for and consider before dumping between $1500-$3000 on a device?
My original plan was Ambia Gen 2+ binocular from TNVC sister company, and an ATPAL C on my rifle.
Now I'm looking into the TNVC PVS-14 OMNI VIII by L3 as a device. I know it's double the cost but the risk of tube damage from over exposure of light makes me want to steer away from a Gen 2+ device. That and gen 3 has better resolution...
Anyway... thoughts?
Gen 2 is agrbage. Gen 3 is where it is at and so-called Gen 3+ with pinnacle tubes are the state of the art. I have been watching the market since 2007 and I have not seen the good stuff for under $3,500 ever.
Well funded teams use NV for operating and thermals for scanning.
OP your pic looks like something out of the first season of True Detective
OP here at work on phone. Why would gen 2+ be garbage though? Because of no auto gating?
The unit I had in mind TNVC swears by.
But I understand quality comes with a price on gen 3 optics.
Also, TNVC told me PINNACLE cant withstand recoil as much as OMNI VII. I understand the image is better on a PINNACLE but I want something that can get "knocked around" and not shit the bed
