Well, her task is to destroy submarines using her ASW helicopters

Hence, "Destroyers"
>>
>>32060891

So then why don't other countries use this idea? Japan seems to be the only country that has "helicopter destroyer" as a distinct class of ship.

Why do so many assault rifles have the charging handle on the right, when a right handed shooter can cock the gun quicker with a left hand? I mean, Germans got it right with MP-40/StG-44 already!

In some guns it's slightly less work to manufacture - mill the ejection port and charging handle at the same time. Other guns it's to keep the moving handle away from your face. In the AK ... I actually don't know, I'm guessing to keep the handle away from face since it wouldn't be any more difficult to stamp the receiver with a cutout on the left side for the handle and put the dustcover/selector on the left too
>>
>>32058428
Mall ninjas and shot timers didn't exist in the 50s. It just wasn't considered at the time.
>>
>>32058459
The bolt handle rides above the receiver on AKs, all that would need to change is the dust cover which is even easier.

Questions That Don't Deserve their own thread

Found out that my grandfather may have left behind an SKS in Argentina when he passed away.

Is there any legal way to take it from Argentina to America? Currently living in America

Anyone have a good long eye relief optic recommendation for a Moist Nugget?

Not without a fuck ton of import/export bullshit. I'm not saying you should smuggle it in but it would likely be easier than trying to import it. But you will get caught and ass fucked in federal prison.

It's a decent pistol for the money, just a bit of an uggo.

/k/ I am looking for a good solid EDC folding knife. Birthday is coming up and looking t get myself something nice.

What are your recommendations? Needs to be stainless steel, about 3-4'' blade. High quality. Cheaper the better. But interested in all recommendations.

You can get them on amazon for cheaper and I like the assist.

Hide in a bush until he happens to stroll by. When this happens, shoot him.

Anyone else here really like the PDW concept? Sure its a bit obsolescent, but they're cool.
163 posts and 26 images submitted.
>>
>>32049658
They aren't obsolete. There just isn't a round in existence that is best for this role.
Bottle neck pistol cartridges like 5.7x28 are a start but they are not good enough.
R&D for making new ammo and weapons is expensive but that is nothing compared to the risk of being a failure on the open market.
The criteria for a good PDW round would be.
>2000-3000 fps MV at 16" or less
>55-100gr bullets
>G7 type bullets
>Any caliber theoretically, but...
>...high sectional density for penetrating armor
>Total cartridge length possibly 2" or under
>Standard capacity magazines 15-30 rounds

The PDW concept is interesting however with advancements in service rifles especially in the US they become semi-irrelevant.

A p90 is about 5.7 pounds

while a loaded M4 comes in at about 7.5 pounds.

So instead of saving 1.8 pounds

You don't sacrifice combat efficacy
You don't need to procure expensive proprietary guns and ammunition
You don't need to add another layer of training to use the PDW's
You don't further complicate your logistics.

Make sense?
>>
>>32050178
The whole point is size and portability. Vehicle crews, pilots etc etc. It's definitely a niche role, and not a very important one worth pouring millions into.

Bottom line, we're not likely to see any great strides in this area anytime soon.

Don't need the length anymore. A six inch blade on a 20 inch barrel is already going to be hard to maneuver in a house where you may actually need it. Actually even without the blade a full length rifle is cumbersome, hence shorter carbines
