Isn't it actually fairly strange that the US of all countries was so god damn slow in adopting an intermediate cartridge?
In the 30's the tech and knowledge (i.e. average shooting distance in WW1) was there, the sales pitch would've be easy as fuck:
"We could build you a submachinegun that costs and weighs far less than a Thompson, with like three times the range. The only catch is a proprietary cartridge."
The idea of having a fairly handy select fire weapon with an effective range of roughly 300m in an age when militaries relied so heavily on blowback SMGs for close range would undoubtedly be very attractive.
Following the war it gets even more puzzling as we know how much pic related was liked AND we know what the chief complaint was for it.
The writing was on the god damn wall. Make something more powerful than .30 carbine but lighter and softer recoiling than .30-06.
It's fucking incredible that with so much experience in so many environments, and despite the use of an almost intermediate round, that the US fell behind the rest of the world and dragged all of NATO down with it.

It was doctrinal lag more than anything. Armies were unwilling to give up the capability for very long range and volley fire that was necessary in the First World War.
>>32374256
The old generals that ran the military had either never seen combat or hadn't seen it since the spanish American war. They placed entirely too much emphasis on individual long range marksmanship and conservation of ammo because their belief on war was 50 years out of date
We were stuck on MUH 30 CAL
Why couldn't this have happened to a /k/ommando instead of shitheads in shitty NY? and why were they opening presents before Christmas?

Try that with a $10k rifle and scope that you have now illegally "transfered."

You want a clockwork gun whose only reason for being is full-auto which you wouldn't be able to lawfully own at anything even remotely sane prices even in the few places in the developed world where it's lawful to own, has a problem with the rounds cooking off and has the aesthetic of a Glock mixed with a 2x4?
>>32373759
yes
>>32373691
Fucking why?
What are the pros and cons of one over the other. I've been looking at getting one for a shtf kit (yes I'm one of those).
Originally I was looking at the PC for the simple reason of the added protection however from reading some threads it seems as though maneuverability is more useful, now while I'm aware PCs are quite maneuverable it doesn't have the lightweight nature of a chest rig.
Does anyone have any suggestions? A little info that may influence advice, I'd be panning on bugging in so I'd likely Only wear it on the few times we would head out beyond the perimeter.
Or should I just nut up and get both?

> I'd be panning on bugging in so I'd likely Only wear it on the few times we would head out beyond the perimeter
...kid, don't be ridiculous.
Get both ya mook.

My advice: get a minimalist plate carrier and put polyethylene plates in it, they weigh 2.9lb apiece for level 3.
The catch is that PE doesn't stop steel core at close range, but it stops everything else fine and you can't beat the weight or multihit.
Can you guess the weapon /k/?
Ill give you a hint,not a rifle
Mossberg 695 bolt action shotgun. Possibly branded as one of the department stores of the day.
Possibly a different model number as well.

>ITT we discuss deception and all it's forms
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_deception
This is a fun subject but it would probably be better to start with an example.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Maling
This is one of my favorites.
To summarize, two Chinese states, the Wei and the Chao (Depending on the translation these names vary as far as how they're romanized; my copy of the Art of War is translated this way) were at war, and Chao called for help from the state of Ch'i.
Ch'i's commander in chief was T'ien Chi, although the true commander was Sun Pin, who declined the position when offered due to his status as an ex convict (long story, but to keep it brief, he was framed and crippled as punishment).
The Ch'i win handily at the Battle of Guiling, or Kuei Ling.
Fifteen years later, Chao and Wei have set aside their differences and attacked the state of Han. Always one to root for the underdog, Ch'i responds to Han's call for help, and T'ien Chi and Sun Pin go out again.
This time, though, the guy who fucked over Sun Pin, one P'ang Chuan, was in charge of the Wei.
P'ang Chuan had heard of Sun Pin's stunt at Kuei Ling, where Sun Pin ignored the enemies besieging Chao and went straight for the enemy capital, so as soon as he heard that the Ch'i were coming he turned around and took his army home to receive the enemy attack.
1/2
Now Sun Pin thinks of a crafty tactic. See, the state of Wei thinks that Ch'i is full of pussies. Taking advantage of that, Sun Pin's plan was to build a hundred thousand cooking fires the first night, then fifty thousand the next night, then thirty thousand, to give the illusion that the Ch'i armies were rapidly deserting.
P'ang Chuan falls for it hook line and sinker.
"I have always been certain that the troops of Ch'i were cowards," he allegedly said, "They have been in my country for only three days and more than half their officers and soldiers have deserted!"
P'ang Chuan, smelling an easy victory, makes an understandable yet devastating fuckup.
He left behind his heavy infantry and logistics trains, riding hard and fast with only shock troops and lightly armed warriors, keeping only his swiftest in order to reach the Ch'i quickly.
Sun Pin is waiting for P'ang Chuan in this place called Ma Ling. It's a narrow road, with steep terrain and heavy cover; the perfect place for an ambush.
Sun Pin has known that this fucking faggot P'ang Chuan fucked him over, and that he's in charge of the Wei army coming for him.
So, utilizing the sheer hardness of the vengeance erection he had, he tore the bark off of a big tree and carved into it "P'ang Chuan dies under this tree."
Then he put ten thousand crossbowmen around the valley and told them that when a fire was lit, to shoot at it, because Sun Pin wasn't going to let there be any chance of P'ang Chuan escaping this sweet revenge and if that meant massive overkill then so be it.
2/3
>>32373670
>>32373675
P'ang Chuan arrives that night and sees a tree with the bark stripped off and something written on it. Curious, he lights a torch to read the message.
Before he had even finished reading that he was going to die, the message presumably accompanied by a drawing of whatever an ancient chinese middle finger is, ten thousand crossbows had unloaded into his reduced force and thrown them completely into disarray. Realizing how much his shit had just been wrecked, P'ang Chuan killed himself, presumably while Sun Pin watched from the top of the valley touching himself.
The moral of the story is to not trust Sun Pin when fire is involved.
It is known that there are swords of societal persuasion and great reknown but are there guns and the like that are like that? Are there guns that hold the same kind of arua as they do? If not,do you think there could be and what are some good examples of such?

Well the most expensive sword scored close to 8 million $US, the most expensive firearms where a pair of pistols that belonged to George Washington. So Swords > guns, because more expensive is better.

>>32372856
What do you mean by spergs? I'm not familiar with the term.
What does it cost to run your range for one year?
Hey /k/, unfortunately I happen to live in California and am not old enough to own a pistol. Recent events have me somewhat worried about being attacked by a group of neo-nazi fucks or wild niggers and so I wish to arm myself. I've thought a lot about buying a rifle long before this, but I really want something I can carry or at least easily fit and retrieve from my car trunk. I've considered buying and modifying a rifle or shotgun for these purposes (my top consideration would probably be a 10/22 or an AR-7) but I would rather not get fucked by the ATF and probably thrown in jail. I have a fucking bokken laying around because I'm a disgusting weeb and I could easily go purchase a baseball bat for self defense, but getting that close to someone that wants to hurt me isn't really that appealing. I've now been considering buying some type of higher powered air gun (preferably a pistol) and using that. Even though I know most are probably not powerful enough to do much against someone, I feel the intimidation of me holding what would appear to be a gun would be useful in scaring less serious threats. I honestly don't know how possible killing someone with an air gun is (I assume not very) but having one would give me some piece of mind even though I'll probably be dead either way. (and yes I know the fucking red ryder would do jack shit to someone, it's just a relevant picture)
I'm gonn reply to this bait in hopes that a mod sees this retard shit post and bans your ass. Lay off the drugs and live in a better state. Maybe this will help bring you some clarity. Kys

It used to be a tiny community with a bunch of funny inside jokes, and now Boris has created an army of 13 year olds screaming "CHEEKI BREEKI GOPNIK SHASHLYK XDDDD" on any videos they see.
