So I was watching a documentary about Japan, and of course Hiroshima came up.
The presentator visited the curator of a museum dedicated to the bombing, and apparently he survived the bombing while being roughly one kilometer from the detonation point, while working on his parents' half-finished bomb shelter.
So how deadly is a nuclear bomb really? What's the kill radius on a modern one?
Pic unrelated
>>32485149
depends on the yield and if it is detonated at ground level or in airburst
this helps:

select a location, yield and if it is ground level or airburst, it will show you what it does

Why would thy pick this over the widely used and proven 416? Almost as idiotic as dropping a good rifle like the G36.
>it melts meme
No it doesn't.
>>32483810
Was there ever an actual issue with the G36?
I remember the MG4 had quite a few issues,
but with the G36 it became never really clear.

>Be the bundeswahr
>Have the G36, arguably the most pants-wettingly a e s t h e t i c assault rifle in service anywhere
>Have it also be a good rifle that's been the inspiration for the SCAR and every other polymer assault rifle under the sun, a game-changing landmark of a weapon by any and every metric
>Replace it with another fucking AR clone

Owning Guns in Canada.
I've always liked guns and wanted one; however, i live in Canada.
So to my Canadian comrades, I have a few questions:
1. Are you allowed to use your gun in your own house for self defence, in case an intruder is in your house ?
2. Other than target shooting what else do you guys do ?
>>32479392
#1
VERY VERY iffy. Canadian law says you may act in defense relative to the danger you're in. If someone's trying to kill you, you can kill them first.
It's a terrible legal grey area and will never be clarified. It's a case by case thing.
#2
Lots and lots of target shooting.
Video games too, not sure what you're getting at.
I'd link my little youtube video talking about some of the cheaper guns you can buy in Canada but eh.
If you're going to start, go do a search for PAL courses in your area, take the course and do the hoop jumping to get your license. Make sure you get your Restricted as well as Non Restricted, you'll want it later because handguns are fun.
For a first rifle you can't go wrong with a new $200 SKS from anywhere, a crate of 1400rnds of 7.62x39 I just got from my local sporting store was $270
$500 and you can start shooting after you get your license.
>>32479392
1. Not really. IANAL but you have to keep it locked up (trigger lock or in a safe or smth), and fwiu you can only use it if you're legitimately in fear of your life and have no other recourse.
2. Hunting? Tin cans and animals are kinda the sum total of what you can legally shoot at.

All of the wrecks of warships ever sunken suddenly rise up and attack. Their crews take the form of zombies and ships are instantly restored to combat-ready condition with all the fuel and ammunition that they need to fight. The ships will attack any other surface vessel that they encounter exept other than other "Risen" warships and if two or more "Risen" warships meet they will team up against the smooth-skins. The ships will not run out of fuel or ammunition under any circumstances. The Zombie crews have a hivemind similar to tyrannids so they can coordinate their actions perfectly. Their goal is to completely take over the oceans by force.
You are the commander of the international task force sent to take back the oceans from the undead menace. What is your strategy?
Ignore them.
The turrets would have fallen out of every ship and small caliber barrels too rusted away to function.
Basically not only do the dead need magic to reanimate, they also need molecules aligned because THEIR BODIES ROTTED AWAY COMPLETELY.
If magic fixes the ships weapons then I guess I'll stay the fuck out of it and let the wizards unfuck the bullshit they probably started in the first place
>>32469020
Just to clarify, when I wrote "restored to combat condition" I meant "like completely brand new." All broken machinery is instantly replaced and the hull is restored to whatever condition it was in when it was first launched. Everything is just like it was when the ship first went into combat, except that it is now crewed by homicidal zombies bent on world domination.
Hope this clears things up.
>>32469050
I guess I'd stay out of it because whatever wizard/necromancer did this is way past my power level.
I sure as fuck cant do shit like that ATM
/k/, what's objectively the best glowstick color?

Green and yellow
>>32495126
IR, visible light is for civilians

Do SOF and spooks still use dedicated fighting knives or do they use utility knives like the kabar? I understand why utility knives are widely issued because they can be used for so many tasks, but they lack the "oh shit" factor of pic related.
>>32494853
>but they lack the "oh shit" factor of pic related.
Because when im being stabbed its
>"Wow look how scary that knife is"
>>32494853
they use suppressors for killing dudes now
knives are so 1940s
>>32494866
Do you think the dboys and SAD operatives use a kabar like all the other prole grunts? No, they go for pure killing blades.
I was given 800 rounds of cast .45 in these 50 round sealed bags. I have a Glock 21 and everywhere I've looked online says not to shoot cast through it. Is it worth buying another barrel to be able to use all this?
You could buy a GI model 1911 from RIA, they're cheap and adequate, and it can't hurt to have a 1911 in your collection.
>>32494536
Glocks handle cast just as well as every other polygonal barrel.
Shoot them and clean. No problems.
No guns here
What's wrong with cast and I thought Glocks were suppose to be durable?
explain to me how this isn't better than the A-10 or the F-35 for COIN
>>32494047
>>32494047
Is it manned or unmanned?
>>32494074
unmanned preferably
Why not just replace the A-10 with a F-16 variant? Strengthen the wings, add some pilot armor, and you should be good to go.
>>32493667
Because the F-16 and A-10 are both going to be phased out at the same time.
>>32493667
No brrrrrt
Engine is flimsy and will kaboom if a missile fragment gets inside.
No, your thread is shit, your idea is shit, and explaining why would take too long.

>>32493667
They are. The F-35 is the future F-16. Blows your mind, dont it?
Hello /k/!
Sorry to bother you on New year's, but can someone provide more info on the Warrior tracked armoured vehicle?
It seems to be in the middle between the BMP-2 and Bradley.
I usually read an Osprey book for a start, but there is very little info available on FV 510 Warrior/MCV-80.

Worked with it for many years.
Very mobile, good protection when its armoured up with the applique (apparently it's gotten even better armour modules since I left) and its very reliable.
Gun was extremely accurate when stationary and has time to get right on the target, but of course has a lot of issues firing on the move or when rapidly engaging moving targets. As I hear the upgrade is going to put a meaty 40mm on there with full stabilisers though, so good stuff.
Overall, it's a great vehicle. Mobile, reliable, tough. Gets you in and out safely. Only real downside is the gun that went way too long without replacement, but that seems to be getting sorted in a year or so.
I'm talking people who have prescriptions here. Everything two feet in front of my face is a blur, yet I much prefer shooting without my glasses on and still manage semi-decent results. With optics I'm perfectly fine, with Irons I find it somewhat uncomfortable.
So, how does /k/ shoot with glasses?
Glasses on with ironsights, no issues had.
Hearing protection is much more obstructing than glasses
>>32493544
I think he has farsightedness instead of just myopia or astigmatism. Farsightedness is having difficult to watch very close items well, but with practice you can shoot well with whatever eye problem you have while using correction if you are not almost blind.
>>32493544
This only applies to lying to the federal govt about being military. Remaining cases fall under free speech.
Why do we still use an overpriced, ineffective toxic/poisonous element to make almost all civilian bullets?
>>32493384
a) All-copper bullets are expensive to manufacture. See: Barnes, LeHigh Meme Shit, etc.
b) Steel core pistol ammo is considered "armor piercing" under Federal law, and ATF has shown a penchant for declaring rifle calibers that happen to have a "pistol" available for sale somewhere as AP pistol ammo.
c) Steel JHPs and JSPs aren't going to work - kills off the hunting and self-defense markets.
d) The Mk. 318 round the USMC and various SOF was issuing is superior to the M855A1 round for antipersonnel purposes, and it's of lead construction. The only reason M855A1 will win out for force-wide adoption is because the Army is a much larger organization and thus gets its way on things like this.
e) Nobody outside of California cares about the risk lead exposure given modern safety protocols and range equipment. I worked at a range for over a year. My measured lead levels actually went down between the time I was hired and the time I left. Wash your hands and shoot somewhere with good ventilation systems or outside.
The copper cost in an all-copper projectile is trivially different than a copper-jacketed projectile. The cost of lead is also trivial.
Markup figures are likely industry secrets, but it makes no sense to sell inexpensively when there is no competition in the US ammo market and everything produced will fly off the shelves.
>>32493456
>>32493432
>steel also costs about 1/6th as much as lead
Why don't modern firearms have outer threaded barrels like these? I know it adds weight, but is that the only reason?
>inb4 someone asks what does it do
heat
>>32493326
>threaded
lol
>>32493327
Foreigner, I don't know the word for that. You know I mean those rings around the barrel
>>32493326
Modern barrels are made from better materials so heat is less of a problem.
who /autistic about movie gunplay/ here?
i can't even enjoy movies with bad gunfights anymore (thanks to you /k/)
now, recommend me some good movies with good gunplay
