Depends on how powerful the bomb is, but if I survived I'll imagine that no harm has come to me and the only real damage imminent is the fallout.
Food would be an important factor, so any cans and water bottles are a must.
Any medical supplies able to be used in the situation, or for bartering in case response infrastructure isn't functioning.
Any weapons, any tools, any gear. Stuff like tire jacks, tire irons, pistols preferably, heavy duty gloves/jacket/boots.
If the radioactivity isn't the issue, then I'd borrow a boat from the Marina, something small and fast. Only thing I know I am competent singlehanding is an FJ. Probably would sail out to Anacapa, which would take the better part of a day.
If radioactivity is an issue, i'd stay inside. Tape up the windows, sit in the laundry room with all the supplies I can fit.
If this is just a single detonation, and my city was the only city attacked, I'd likely only do the second option, as rescue infrastructure would arrive. If a thermonuclear exchange occurred with multiple detonations in key cities and the government essentially was relegated to bunkers for the next 3-9 months, then the first option of borrowing a boat might be a good idea. It would not only isolate you from looters, but the ability to fish and maintain transportation would be beneficial. Also it'd be cool to sail again, especially if I could do it with a group of well-meaning people.

In my country the government provides air raid shelters for 90% of the population. Most larger buildings has them in the basement and they are designed to withstand a conventional bomb, a nuclear blast at a certain distance or the whole building collapsing ontop of the shelter.
Id probably do fine if I was given the 30 or so seconds it would take to get there and close the blast door.
Air raid sirens is installed everywhere so there is a chance that they would be activated to warn us.
Damn It feels nice to live in a first world country.
Can the mini 14 be reloaded without removing the magazine?

Looking for a bit of advice for my first concealed carry.
Shoot fairly often, prefer the weight of metal than plastics, and really only care about overall accuracy and stopping power as opposed to a larger capacity.
Been thinking about a makarov for the size and supposed reliability. Any /k/ommandos have any experience with it personally? Suggestions on a better alternative? Not opposed to revolvers.

I did the same thing. It was a nice gun. I fucked up the finish and ended up selling it to some /k/ommando then buying a glock. It can fill the role of a carry pistol and is reliable but pretty fucking heavy for a single stack 8+1.
There are better options but there is technically nothing wrong with it. Just outdated and obsolete to modern counterparts.

What would /k/ think of a two tiered military culture?
Like a 'double standard' that formally distinguishes between a captain of infantry, and a captain of microsoft excel.
The excel guy could get paid more (because his skills are worth more), yet maintain a lower level of fitness, and discipline - being able to do his job and serve his country, without getting mocked all the time.
The rigid military hierarchy isn't appropriate in an office setting anyway.
Because the overweight guy reading the economist on the bus has a different uniform, the infantryman wouldn't need to mock him all the time to preserve his warrior pride.
There could actually be mutual respect between grunts and pogs. Thoughts?

How does /k/ feel about airguns?
I met an old prepper a while ago who owns a few. He used them for hunting and one of them was capable of killing deer. He intends to hunt small game if he has to and has a whole bunch of stocked pellets or whatever these airguns shoot. He claims the reasons he hasn't purchased a more traditional firearm are the lack of noise and not having to get background checked/register any new airgun he buys.
How does /k/ feel about them? Have any airguns capable of being a practical home defense weapon been manufactured and how much do they cost? I know nothing of Airguns and figured I'd see what /k/ had to say before hitting Google.

Fun and extremely cheap practice on rimfire spinner targets, kills smaller critters well, can shoot socially without earpro if you have two, good for teaching kids since the gun is 100% safe after firing so no biggie if they turn excitedly etc.
It never hurts to have one.

I look for a nice set of iron sights and getting a normal weight pellet to around 900fps, I'm not a big scope guy.
I'm no pellet gun expert by any means, but I love my gamo whisper fusion pro 22cal, really nice irons and launches a full weight pellet about at the speed others keep saying is ideal. I love both my 177 and 22cal gamos, but the 22 is definitely my favorite because it has a lot more power downrange. It's pretty dead accurate too.

I'm going to build an AR10 (the one made by Arma Lite) but I'm having issues finding actual parts for it. The Arma lite website is always out of stock and I can't really find the parts at other websites. Is there a particular reason as to why?
Due to the lack of parts I started looking at another 308 battle rifle and found the DPMS 308 rifle. Seems to have more parts available for it. I've also seen people refer to a LR 308 but I thought that was just a variations of the DPMS 308. Are they the same thing?
