Why isn't this a thing anymore? It looks way cooler than round barrels.
>>32802645
we machine barrels now, instead of forging them to shape
ease of manufacturing would be my wild guess
Easier to make flat surfaces with hammers and files than round surfaces?
So /k/
What cartridge is good for beginner, got cheap bullets, have many guns to choose from, and with good enough stopping power?
>>32802463
9mm for a handgun
5.56 for a rifle
12 gauge for a shotgun
>>32802463
I have two weapons,
first one is Tikka T3 bolt action, chambered in .223 rem (5.56 basically)
>Big initial costs, but cheap shooting for ~300m
Second is CZ75B New edition, 9mm
Cheap to buy, but you go through ammo a lot faster
What about .22LR
that shit looks like it's plenty
The games industry is garbage. Its 2017 and the most in-depth tactical game on the market is an turn based rpg from 1999.
With the 1.13 mod and its activation of features like a suppression system, youve got the ultimate small unit tactics and gun porn game. The amount of depth JA2 1.13 has is honestly sometimes intimidating. From your basic squad combat, to mortars, defenses with traps, snipers, gassing, explosive breaching, etc etc this game has it.
There simply isnt anything else that comes close.
Honorable mention to brigade E5, which IMO had the potential to be really good but was let down by basically being nothing more than a glorifed tech demo. Its sequel, 7.62 high calibre, is quite popular on /k/ but IMO is somehow an inferior game to its tech demo prequel, as E5 had working suppression system, and maps with a large number of enterable buildings facilitating CQB and room clearing, and generally just had better mechanics. The sequel on the other hand, is more polished and has a storyline, but lacks most of the features that make E5 really good gameplay wise.
/k/ game thread i suppose
Steel panthers main battle tank is /k/ as fuck

I love how JA2 uses the Fallout 1/2 engine.
They're my 3 favorite games too.
>>32802427
the simulation markets obsessive focus with tanks and aviation is kind of a bugbear of mine, even in combined arms simulators the infantry aspect is treated as an afterthought and is seriously shallow, with the exception of maybe the latest versions of the combat mission series.
This is sad because I believe infantry simulation could be every bit as as interesting and perhaps even more dynamic than what is currently available with tank combat and air combat simulators.
The closest we've got in that regard is ArmA which is certainly good but kind of ruined by the prevalence of 3rd person shenanigans and garbage dayz and battlefield rip off missions in the public space.
Can we get a weapons history thread going?
I've just realized how little I know about the history of weapons prior to repeating firearms, and it made me wonder what the rest of /k/ knows about cannons, trebuchets, crossbows, axes, etc.
To start things off; at what point did gunpowder become truly relevant? Was there some turning-point battle where the use of it (either for cannons/muskets/explosives, etc) proved pivotal, or was it something that slowly caught on?
I'd love to have a blackpowder/smoothbore gun one day. Anything, really.
Canadian laws about them are both lean and weird. If I had the time and space I'd look into it more seriously.
Has anyone ever fired one of these large, high draw-weight crossbows?
Is there much in the way of recoil?
>>32802423
Lots of energy but they're also big and heavy.
The hardest is to train it on target without swaying.
What is some /k/ approved headwear for opereating?

could someone tell me why LE6920 aren't available outside US?
>>32802224
Either they don't export firearms to Europe for commercial sales or it's Colt being retards like usual and only did a limited run
>>32802237
Sometime ago on the web i've seen something called XT-3 with colt logo stamped on it, but couldn't find any information about it.
That made me wonder
>>32802224
I think it was one of the Austrians in /arg/ saying it, but the duties were so high to bring US manufactered guns in, the importers only bothered with the more boutique brands that were expensive to start.
/k/ related literature thread.
Been reading Beckwith's memoirs, it deals briefly with his Vietnam stuff and then its completely about Delta till the end. Very interesting read for someone who is into SOF and the unit.

THE SIEGE OF MECCA.
A true story of how a mad man managed to fucked up the modern Saudi Arabia, Islam and world.
Highly recommend to understanding how modern terrorism was born.

So, Serbia is about to receive 6 modernized MiG-29's from Russia, and 12 from Belarus. Altogether SAF will have 22 MiG-29's.
In addition to this they'll receive Buk systems, they got free T-72S and some other shit.
Apparently negotiations are underway for S-300 sale from Belarus too.
This will make Serbia the strongest force in Balkans, militarily speaking. For comparison Croatia has few barely working MiG-21's, and Bosnia, Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro have no relevant airplanes.
Bulgarians have 17 MiG-29's but Bulgaria and Serbia have no real issues.
Thoughts?
>>32802150
Well, to be fair, air power is the last thing Croatia needs to think about when it's a NATO member, just use the forces the US has in theater. IIRC though, they're also modernizing their ground troops with newer stuff, including the Javelin and Kiowas.
Which model of the MiG-29?
Also if Croatia goes through with their fighter deal, the MiG-29s will be painfully obsolete no matter what they end up with, especially since all Euro canards will have access to Meteors.

Gathering more NATO cannon fodder for the next time they chimp out?
I dont know much about guns but I had this idea. Sawed off sotguns are illegal because it makes the gun way too powerful, so what if I were to take a glock and saw it off in the same way? Why don't more people do this, assuming it works?
>>32801754
Now you're playing fire, kid. This shit is WMD level shit. I'd be careful if I were you.

Are Glocks the cheapest guns made?
>>32801562
Cheapest like lowest cost manufacturing...no there is worse
>>32801562
I would call them mid range, considering the exponential price scale
but the cost of manufacture (though necessarily quality) is remarkably low
>>32801562
>cost of manufacture (though necessarily quality) is remarkably low
This, OP. They just mark up the price (like all gun companies) like Jewelers do.

Pilots are the most cocky bastards you'll ever meet in your entire life. No US Military pilot has ever nervously entered a cockpit.

Its not the NA with the 50mm. I fucking love this tank though.
Czechia can do no wrong
Whether because of a dire threat, financial desperation, or orders on high, you have only 48 hours to steal as much money as possible and try to leave the country.
You may only use weapons and equipment currently at your disposal, and may enlist the help of up to 3 other /k/ommandos.
Which of your weapons do you bring for the job?
What's your target?
Do you have a mask? Do you try to make one?
What's your escape vehicle?
Do you have any specialist equipment to use?
>FBI pls no bully, just trying to get away from the usual hypotheticals
>>32801485
>and try to leave the country.
Assuming this bit is imperative to the success of the mission, I just hitchhike to Mexico. There's no fun heists that I could realistically commit in 2 days; At least none I'd get away with. It's just not how the world works.
Assuming that this is just general heistery talk instead of heisting then running talk, I would burglarize houses in a upper middle class neighbourhood and I'd look for cash/drugs.
PS: Is this just a prompt for Payday fanfiction?
Why would you need weapons and equipment for white collar crime?
>>32801485
>You may only use weapons and equipment currently at your disposal, and may enlist the help of up to 3 other /k/ommandos.
Just knives and nerf guns desu, not enough to work with. Hopefully the 3 /k/ommandos have guns I could burrow. I'll buy a shitload of gun powder, then I'll make IED's out of them. Preferably with a timed trigger.
>Which of your weapons do you bring for the job?
Anything the other /k/ommandos with me can loan me.
>What's your target?
A police station a county or two away from my home.
>Do you have a mask? Do you try to make one?
I'll use a baseball cap
>What's your escape vehicle?
Anything that runs, probably a police vehicle/ambulance.
>Do you have any specialist equipment to use?
Bombs, the stuff to make bombs, ext.
>>FBI pls no bully, just trying to get away from the usual hypotheticals
This desu
The plan is to have 2 /k/ommandos set 4-5 bombs to explode in different locations in the same 3 mile radius. The bombs are timed to detonates 5 minutes after the previous one. This causes all active duty cops/SWAT to leave and to stay gone. The /k/omandos will discharge their weapons into the air/ground many times, so it sounds like there's a gunfight. Then they leave through sewers/whatever
After one and a half minutes after the second bomb goes off, me and the other /k/ommando goes into the police station to steal the firearms contained within, along with any/all drugs/money locked up in evidence. We're quite-ish, ideally anyone in the station doesn't question us because they're busy trying to find out why bombs are going off. We get the stuff and then we leave. We hope there was no one who saw us, and we drive casually towards Mexico. (Or a private airfield at least 75 miles away, if we can get one)
Almost out of ammo

>not a spent casing to be found
>>32801461
Very valid
Let's say you had to go to Afghanistan, and would be given men that would do your bidding. Your task is to fight against the Taliban.
But you're also on a budget!
How would you arm them, and fight against jihadis on a budget? Post a number of men, from 1-10,000 and your budget, on what arms they'd have, etc.
Think of yourself as a private military company.
>>32801063
HMG's and shoot everyone
insurgencies are not hard if you kill everyone

They'd be hiding in mountains and caves. You can't bring HMGs everywhere with you. How would one handle this situation without being too edgy?
