I don't even own a gun, but I've been calculating the cost of ammo alone, and it seems guns are made to shoot silver coins as much as they are to shoot a bullets. It got me thinking, 'maybe I should just start reloading the caliber of ammunition I plan on buying a gun in'. It sounds ridiculous, right? To not own a gun, but reload ammo, but I think for someone on a budget like me, this would be a wise choice. I've been watching videos of people saying if you buy a multi-stage reloading like a Dillon, and you factor in materials, give or take it would take a year to pay off the cost, which seems like a good investment. I've been hearing the saying 'you're either a reloader, or a shooter'. I'm a frugal person, and I really think that it would be a smarter investment to reload before I get a gun in the long run. I can get the paper shredder later.

It only starts to pay off when you are a really frequent shooter (or you use wildcat/oddball ammo).
Once you get a gun for the first time and shoot few hundred rounds in the first month. Then you won't shoot as much afterwards and the expensive bench and reloading set will start to gather dust. Then you realize how time consuming reloading is.
Then you realize that you could've bought a container of 1000 brass 223 with that money (more than an average person's need for multiple decades) and you get drunk.

You have no idea how dedicated I can be to something if I put my mind to it. I'm already thinking of ways to stockpile reloaded ammo in my house. How does 20k reloaded 9mm sound to you?
>>32825382
>1000 brass 223
>average person's need for multiple decades
Hahahaha, uwot? The average AR owner goes through 200+ rounds per range trip. That's a whopping 7 mags' worth of ammo. Not exactly a lot.
>>32825281
I started reloading after I got guns, so I can't really relate. But if you're of this mindset, all I can say is don't fall for the nonsense that you should buy a single-stage as your first press because progressives are too complicated for beginners. If someone is so confused by 4-5 simple things happening each lever pull, they have no business being around gunpowder in the first place. I started with a Dillon 550b because I already knew I was going to enjoy reloading. The only reason not to get a progressive right off the bat is money and not being sure whether you'll like it. If those two things don't apply, go for it.
As for cost savings, it's like the other guy said, it really pays off when you load in bulk or do less common ammo. Or when you reload for precision/long range shooting, since it's an all but mandatory part of the sport. I load 9mm, .223, and .308 so far, but I'm a canuck so even 9mm is worth it due to our stupid ammo prices. I made a whole spreadsheet to find out the breakeven point (which I've since lost), but I broke even after about a year and a half of casual shooting with the combination of all 3 calibers.
For the Glock 17, which 9mm grain is better, 124grain or 147grain?

Is 6.5 grendel the assault rifle round of the future /k/? I've heard it's the perfect middle ground between 762 and 556, and with those new NAS3 cases we can expect to see its weight reach close to that of brass 556.
more like the future of DMRs, nobody's going to want to carry 6.5 G instead of 5.56 but they'll take 6.5 G over 7.62
>>32824387
With a NAS3 case the 6.5 would in fact weigh less than 556. So why wouldn't they want to carry it?
>>32824359
No, 7×46mm UIAC is.
Hello /k/
I recently got into guns and found an old gun that belonged to my grandfather. He used it to kill rats in his garage.
It's smooth bore barrel of an unknown caliber, the diameter of the bore is 0,39 inch /1 cm and the length of the barrel is 27,5 inch / 70 cm.
My questions are the following:
What caliber shells does it shoot?
What do the mysterious markings mean?
Could I safely disassemble and clean it without breaking it?
Thanks
