I know very little about modern muzzleloaders but would like to get one.
>preferably .45 (better ballistics) but wouldn't be opposed to getting a more common caliber
>break action
>around $200
>reach out to 150 yards for deer and coyote
Anybody have suggestions? I was looking at a Traditions Buckstalker (pic related) but need to learn more about these rifles so general muuzzleloader thread

I use a krb7 which uses 209 primers and is super easy to take down and clean compared to a lot of guns.
And while the gun is 50cal, you can use saboted 45cal bullets like my picture. The 45 cals I've used are just lead practice bullets.
Accuracy wise, it's as accurate as anything else I shoot, it just drops faster because of the obvious.
I've yet to shoot a deer and have it run. They've always just dropped on the spot for me. Those 50cal bullet expand to ~100cal almost instantly.

I'm a .22 lover. Nothing makes me me feel more at peace then throwing lead down range for hours. Has anyone ever shot the pic related gun, or own it. Seems like it would appeal to the inawoods people here.

I've heard they're hit or miss now days.
Get it? Because you shoot at targets? And you hit or miss?
I really bit the bullet on that joke.

Had an Armalite AR-7 awhile back. I mounted a Bushnell magnum phantom handgun scope on it. I couldn't find extra mags, though. It was a tack driver and fun to shoot.

They've had issues with QC for a few yrs and they were pretty awful durING that time. Yeah it can float, they're not water tight, have found water in it before. Sold mine and now keeping my eyes out for a m6 scout rifle. Which is a over under .22 /.410 rifle.
I believe you can find one that's a .410 /.223 too.

Hey guys my birthday is coming up soon and I would like to buy my first gun. Usually my parents and my grandma give me $100 each and i have like 3k in savings and my mom is friendswith the girl whos the daughter of the owner of my towns gunshop (but i really want something on the cheap). I was originally gonna get a .22 or an 870 but before my friend left before San Diego he told me to get a Mossberg 500. My question is what should I get for my first gun?

Y'all buying into all these cartridge revolvers? I reckon I just don't see point, being as how I can just carry two spare cylinders for my 1858 Remington.
Worked in the war, why it won't work now, I do not see.

Congrats on dodging the draft, you cowardly civilian. Even rebs have more honor than you.
>>32835083
I see somebody couldn't manage a field commission. Too bad you shitbagged your way through the war, son. I myself used my pay to order a Remington. Which, as you might not know, facilitates a rapid reload.
I swear, some rear echelon sumbitch is always trying to start a thing they can't finish.

Which one of these does not go with the other ones?
I'm thinking of going for a big rifle cartridge, specifically the 458 Lott in a CZ550. If I saved up more, I may consider the Weatherby Mark 5 in 460.
Does anyone have any big ass cartridges? The biggest I got so far are 45-70, 338LM and I've had the big revolvers. Wanting to stay away from 50bmg because it's not a shoulder firing cartridge.
My rationale so far is because fuck you, that's why. And seeing a 10" plate fly 30 feet back is hilarious.
.458 Lott is big for no reason. It was created in response to Winchester fucking up with the powder charges of .458 WM back in the day, that's over now. If you want it there's no real detriment over .458 WM aside from freebore, the action lengths are the same IIRC.
If you're going that big, however, I would suggest a .375 H&H due to slightly lower recoil, significantly flatter trajectory, and an easier time finding ammunition. .375 is already overpowered for everything in the Americas, though if you're fine with the .458's limitatons more power to you.
The .460 Weatherby is just an embarrassment of riches. The recoil is horrendous without a muzzle brake and the muzzle blast is horrible with it, the cartridge is expensive and proprietary, and it does nothing that the .458 can't 100 yards closer.
.416 Rigby is the only answer.
>>32830140
I did read that about modern powders making the 458mag viable again. Sounds like the 375HH is the typical primary Africa hunting cartridge and the heavier/larger ones are for being someone's backup. I don't even hunt deer at this point. I just like shooting big rifles.
Is pic related a good way to cut length from a rifle barrel?
I'd like to take a used rifle I just got down from 28" to 24" but I don't really want to take it to a smith. I thought one had to have precision millworking tools.

This. In sure you could kill one with a few well placed stabs, but you're going to be considerably lighter than when you started your day.
>>32829632
Does it bleed? If so, that means it is a possibility for a person to kill it. It just depends on that person and how they approached it.

Hoo boy.
Went shooting for the first time today, Shot a CZ-75 and a 1911. My question is, why did the 1911 feel like it had a softer recoil than the CZ? I thought .45 was supposed to kick like a mule compared to 9mm.
>>32829600
45 has a lower pressure and a heavy bullet which leads to more of a "push" recoil whereas the 9mm by comparison has more "snap"
>>32829600
Heavier gun absorbs recoil better. Could be that. Dunno the weight/ distribution of the gun. Could be a lighter slide too.
1911s are known to be soft-shooting due to low bore axis.
HOLY FUCK /K/
THIS JUST HAPPENED 15-20 MINUTES AGO
>Live in a house with many windows
>About to go to bed, walking into dining room
>Between my house and my neighbor's house there's a little pathway that leads from my front yard to my backyard
>2 Windows about 6 or so feet off the ground
>See some shape at the window (lights were off, couldn't see much)
>Think it's a raccoon, turn on lights to scare it away
>Flip on lights, it's a fucking guy looking into my house
>He's wearing some sort of mask with a hoodie, really couldn't tell any distinguishable features because as soon as I turned on the lights he books it
>Immediately run upstairs to my room to get my SKS (only gun)
>Fly back down the stairs with rifle in hand, bayonet fixed
>Check backyard, clear
>Check pathway, clear
>Go out to front porch, look up and down the street
>See some guy running down the street wearing a hoodie
>Quiet, suburban street, sound traveling easily
>Rack the bolt, loud as hell and echoes through the street
>Runner slows down, turns around, sees me standing on my porch with a rifle and fixed bayonet
>Turns back around and starts running faster than before
>Make sure all my doors are locked, draw the curtains
Fucking hell, what now? Not sure if I should call the cops because the guy is long gone by now and I couldn't see any features of his face, and being Chicago suburbs I'm worried they fucking fine me or some bullshit for "brandishing" or some stupid shit.
First time this has ever happened to me, and this is NOT common where I live.
