Is there such a thing as a bad, soft tank?
>>34964621
Your mom?

>>34964621
Realisticly I would call any tank that couldn't survive the most common weapons it would come across as a soft tank.as far as bad is concerned a tank that can fulfill its objective do to poor speed or inadequate weaponry.
Aww yeah. All of William S. Lind's On War columns are now available here: http://globalguerrillas.typepad.com/lind/
Anybody have screen grabs from the Victoria read-a-long threads?
Why field a tank when you can field several ATGM launchers for the same cost ?
Why field a soldier when you can field several thousand bulets for the same cost?
>>34968706
>what would replace ALL the roles a tank fills?
why field an army while you can nuke them from the orbit?
You know remember that the YAK 141 was a thing
>>34964569
Whatever happened to Yak? Or Ilyushin for that matter? Seems like they just faded away to irrelevance.
>>34964613
They weren't even producing much during the last years of the USSR, I think they just got eclipsed by Sukhois.

It was a real piece of shit.
What made the US submarine fleet succeed where the Kreigsmarine failed at blockading and starving out an island nation?
Where there any doctrinal differences, or could the Japs just not into anti-sub warfare?
Japan had much more rudimentary sonar and radar systems and no effective ASW aircraft, and never deployed their smaller carriers in an ASW role.
Meanwhile, Germany gradually lost the industrial capacity to replace the losses inflicted on their submarine fleet through the Allies' ASW programs, while the American sub forces in particular studied, adopted and improved upon many German tactics, especially wolf packs.
The long and short of it is, like most other things in the war, American industrial capacity proved overwhelming.
Japan didn't know the first thing about ASW, they didn't even implement a proper convoy system which is WW1 tactics, let alone all the technological advances like sonar/asdic, maritime radar, hedgehog, air patrols, and SIGINT (both codebreaking, and advanced direction finding).
>>34964138
In addition, we broke the German radio codes. The Japanese didn't break ours. We also controlled both sides of the Atlantic. The Japanese never could have ASW patrols over the entire ocean like the Allies.
I-I mean I know that's your choice, Anon. It's your choice. B-B-Buuuutt you're choosing to be stupid, Anon. Do you hate yourself, Anon? Do you hate yourself? Because either you hate yourself or you're too stupid to see these pieces of shit aren't your friends. Make up your mind about which one, Anon. I don't really care if you hate yourself, so make up your mind. Just don't live in ignorance. J-Just open your eyes that these people hate you, Anon.

Family, my hometown's there (also currently have work right now) and 10 thousand acres of family property tied up in a stupidly designed trust that my brothers and dad are trying to buy our uncle and one cousin out of (I have no stake in that though, was too young to legally sign when our granddad drafted up the trust), as soon as my current job ends (september 30th) I can pull stake and run off to nevada if I wanted.
Let me tell you about sin
inb4 people give you shit for buying one of the best triggers under $500

What did Walther mean by this?
Due to the fact that Close In Melee Ship attacks are happening. Russia decides to release a littoral anti ship ship that can double as a support vessel!
It has 2 back cranes to grapple with any container ship trying to ram Russian ships and it also has a big dong to dong it out with any ships trying to dong any passing Russian ships! How can buying Chinese ever compete?
Will America follow suite and release melee type ships?
>>34968582
It lacks a hydraulic jack against the enemy's hull though.
>melee ships
what glorious world have I passed into

For a 12 gauge shotgun! No more then $40 and on eBay!
>>34968492
Probably none out there that will be reliable on a shotgun. It still Chinese, but try to find a used to refurbished Primary arms or Holosun red dot, they are made by the same manufacturer.
Just tape a magnifying glass on the receiver.

>No more then $40 and on eBay!
I can predict where this thread goes!
>people carefully try to explain to OP that this will not be
>OP will push and insist
>everyone will call OP dumb
>thread devolves into ad hominems and faggotry
>assuming OP isn't a fag as it is already
Get a PA Advanced dot and fuck off.
Is it a cover up /k/?
a cover up of what?
definitely a cover-up about HOW it happened
pretty unarguable what happened though
no, its the navy.
Did a NK sub hit it with a torpedo?
Why do people think you need a 30-06 to hunt deer? A 243 works just as well, and don't tell me it doesn't. There's not a deer on earth that won't die if you put a 243 in its heart. It all comes down to shot placement and penetration.
There's not a deer on earth that won't die if you put a 22LR in its heart. It all comes down to shot placement and penetration.
>>34967952
That's true, but 22 LR lacks the range and penetration to be a good deer round. 243 has ample range and penetration.
>>34967926
>barrel burner
Would Dump trucks make for good ad hoc APCs?
>Hauling guys around in the bed without being shot at
Yeah that'd be okay, but you'd be better off with a bus or the like that's expressly designed for carrying people. Better ride, more room, actual seats, etc.
>What if I want to put armor on it and drive it into a combat zone
You're going to spend an awful lot of time and money, particularly if you're just using steel or the like. The platform presumably has the load bearing capability, but you may struggle to jury rig attachment points for armoring the engine AND keeping the engine cool now that you've stuck a couple inches of steel in front of the radiator.
Plus you're going to have a ton of weak points in the cab area
Off road potential may not be very good compared to purpose built vehicles, either.
I would imagine they would make good up armored gun trucks, which aren't quite APCs but have been in use since forever anyway as a good enough stopgap when you can't get a real APC
>>34967970
>keeping the engine cool now that you've stuck a couple inches of steel in front of the radiator.
only if you dont have a competent engineering team.
The easy solution is to make a "scoop" system that pulls air in from under the truck and funnels it into the rad.
>>34967898
depends on what is being fired at it
My friends and I go out shooting about every other weekend out in state forests. We keep finding that we need to communicate over long distances, often with ear pro on. What's your favorite way of staying in touch, assuming no cell service and no radio? Whats your minimum requirement for walkie talkies?
>>34967800
The standard Baofeng radios are okay, and under $30. You can upgrade to an 8 watt version for about twice that. Still way cheaper than a Yaesu, though the Yaesu will be top notch.
Slightly different grit/finish under the crest. All machined parts. Is this a k98k reworked to an m48? Posted all markings. Serial goes k138xxx, I'm under the impression all serials started TA9xxxxx for post war recievers. Is there a dimension I can measure to establish if this is pure yugo or a reworked 98? (98/48n)
>>34967528
Reworked K98ks were kept in K98k configuration. If your rifle is set up in that way, it's just a garden variety M48.
Alright /k/. My local fun store has two offerings I can't decide between. The first is a CZ P-10 for $500 with the regular accessories. The second an HK VP9 for $700 and comes with 6 mags. Typing this out it would seem that the HK is the obvious choice but something is telling me to get the CZ. Thoughts?
From what I've heard (not much) the VP9 is probably the best choice.

Option C tell them to get you a Glock 19 gen 5.
