So my plan is to bug in, I've heard loads of people say they are going to go live innawoods but do any of you really honestly believe you could survive with just your Bob indefinitely?
>>32963195
Bugging out is basically a meme. Unless your bugging out to a location already prepped, or say a natural disaster is inbound and you 'bug out' to a family member in another state or whatever.
Anyone who plans on bugging out with a bag for a prolonged situation will be dun goofed.
With that being said, I think it makes total sense to have a bag you COULD bug out with. On the off chance you have to leave your property or travel to a neighbors or family members house, I think it would be benefical to have it with you. For example my family members live in towns 30Min away, if I had to drive to them during a 'grid down' situation, I could just put my 'BOB' in my vehicle and that way god forbid something happened, id have it.
But honestly, like most SHTF its a meme. So me personally I have a bag that I keep all my camping/hiking stuff in, and thats my 'bob'. I just use it camping all the time.

I have family that have shit tons of food, water, and ammo stockpiled. They also got a small garden and greenhouse, and live decently out of town, so if anything happens relatively soon, I'll make my way back home. If something happens while I'm in Vegas, then I don't know what the fuck I'm gonna do.
What boots do you guys have? I have a pair of Red Wing loggers boots, but they're kind of heavy.
>>32963020
Red Wings are baller as fuck. Maybe grab some 6" boots like Blacksmiths if the full size are too heavy?
I use Palladium full leather in the winter for around the city. Wouldn't take them innawoods tho.
Do LL Bean boots actually hold up or what? My friends wear them all the time and I can't tell if they're just /fa/ggots or if the things are worth the $130.

Any good resources to use to find abandoned places?
>>32947932

Not sure what consitiutes "good" sources online desu. Most of what you find online has already been traveled, sometimes heavily.
For example, many states have facebook groups for abandoned structures in their areas. A lot of people into urbex go there. But you can sometimes find places on youtube when you type in your state and or city with the word abandoned.
The best places will be found like this anon says >>32947995 and talking to people or doing research at your local library.
More places can be found at abnf.co and uer.ca but you don't always get great locations there.

Very weird
It's a wing master and I'm not a hunter. Well I hunt but only rabbit.
Anyway I'm trying to decide what do. Already have a 12 gauge for home defense (which this isn't ideal for anyway).
What could I hope to get for it on trade? I'm hoping to put it towards something more SHTF ready like an SKS or AR.
Also my grandfather (RIP in peace) had covered it in camp duct tape (pic related) so when I peeled it off it's all sticky now. Will rubbing alcohol fuck up the finish? What do?

Any veterans on here have some vehicle ownership advice during a deployment?
I'm looking to volunteer for a deployment within this year. I'll probably be gone for 9-12 months.
I own 2 cars (daily, and fun car). Should I sell just one or both? Car A has a loan and Car B doesn't.
I could easily sell Car B, and pay off the majority of the loan on Car A (then sell Car A for a good profit and be auto-debt free).
Or should I just sell Car B, pay off majority of loan on Car A, and then while i'm gone, finish paying off Car A?
>>32986054
Depends, are they newer or in good condition. Sell them if they are ageing and will loose much value, unless they are totally reliable and sentimental.
In the case of keeping them, put the car up on jack stands, change the oil and get a good cover for the car. You need to seal it pretty well otherwise U will have shit living inside your car eating all your wires, filters and shitting up everything. If you have family to take care of the car, keep a battery tender on it and whatnot go for it. make sure to add "Stabil" or a fuel stabilizer to the gas and run it so it gets into the system, or you will probably not be able to start it 9-12 months later.
There are TONS of details that go into keeping a car in storage, I'd personally fucking sell. But on car A the one with a loan, probably keep it.

>>32986054
Do you have any trusted and I do mean trusted friends or family that are close to you?
Every time I deployed I left my truck with my grandmother. All she did with it was start it up once a month and move it to the other side of the driveway.
If you really don't want both cars, I'd recommend selling one, making a fuck huge payment on the other and find a storage space or someone who is trustworthy to look over it.

How the fuck do I make the wood on a SVT-40 (or any Russian milsurp for that matter) look good? I usually boil metal parts to get the cosmoline off of them but I don't know if that works with wood.
Currently, the wood looks like pic related (pic is from Google). It's shiny, very red, and looks like plastic shit. I want it to look like the guns in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGLZ7Mt8kpA
You can tell that the wood in these cases looks much more natural, vintage, and like the gun isn't molded out of plastic. It's just much more aesthetically pleasing to me.
So do I boil it? Strip it with turpentine? I don't want to ruin the stock I just want to get rid of that cherry-red glare and make the wood look like what you more commonly see with old WWII guns.
Crud cutter and then refinish. I used linseed oil.

MFW my state is biased as fuck and I only have vp reaction images.
What has your state done for gun laws /k/?
>“The Second Amendment is the only permit a lawful citizen should need. We are seeking to make the concealed-carry permit optional, keeping the system in place for those who wish to use it, as spelled out in the bill,” Pittman said in an email.

Has anybody here tried hunting with 7.62x54R?

you will blow the deer clean in half.

hunting isnt /k/ related
>>>/out/
or even /pol/
>>32985062
the answer to your question is it'll work fine for anything from deer up to moose.
Try to avoid using surplus FMJ due to overpenetration and smaller wound channel.
It sits right between what historically have been the most popular hunting cartridges in North America 308 and 30.06

Obligatory "Only if he's not white/European".
Was it from the beginning a superior alternative or only later?
The brown bess had an effective range of 50-100 yards but was only fired at 50 yards. Even still, the brown bess was extremely inaccurate at 50 yards.
when pike and shot became standard
>>32983838
why not pike and crossbow?
>>32983824
depends on the crossbow I guess. Draw weight? Loading Mechanism? Range?
if an average conscript can't load and fire it as effectively as a musket then the musket wins.
other than that, probably in the 1850s/60s with the widespread use of "rifled muskets" (quotes because muskets are by design smoothbores and rifled muskets are just muzzle loading rifles)
rifled muskets pushed accurate fire out to ~200-300 yards
