Snow Meet Edition
[Date]: February 25th (Single Day)
[Location]: Placerville McDonalds Parking Lot
[Time]:Rally at 9AM, Departure at 10AM
In the runup to the Lucky Slav Meetup in May we're going to be trying out some new spots, and this is one of them. After we leave the McDonalds parking lot at 10AM we're going to be convoy'ing up the 50 into the high sierras and turn off onto Ice House Rd and continue on to find someplace to hang out for the day.

SUPER IMPORTANT SHIT READ THIS NIGGER:
This is gonna be a tricky meet to pull off since we have 4WD conditions.... but not everyone has a 4WD. Bring chains in case you need them no matter what. If you don't have 4WD, bring one rifle as you'll likely be riding with someone else who does and you won't want to be making trips back to your vehicle. If you're bringing something with 4WD, please allow some space to carry passengers.
We also request people bring tables, some firewood, tarps to catch brass, and some targets.

If you'd like to keep track of when we're doing meets and where, I strongly suggest joining Slack (it's basically a chatroom) where we hang out, play games, and plan these meetups in detail. If you'd like to join, post a burner email in the thread and I or one of the other admins will send you an invite.

The tanto blade meme needs to die. It's a stupid marketing gimmick Lynn Thompson started in the 80s. No, it doesn't make the tip stronger. It just gives you less usable edge length for slicing.

Honestly, I have bought into the "tanto is a meme" meme. Because, it's weebish, and even if it does make the tip a bit stronger, I do not need a strong stabbing blade in a pocket knife. That's not in line with what you use a pocket knife for 99% of the time

How does one go about washing body armor plate carriers? I've worn mine out to a few shooting sessions and now it smells like sweat and gun powder....just remove the plates and throw it in the wash?

As you might have guessed I'm from Austria. My grandfather is a hunter and I'll eventually inherit his rifles and shotguns but it would be a shame to just sell them on or let them rust away in a corner.
So, experiences or tips on how to get into guns/shooting in Europe? I know this'll be different depending on the country, and I've already done some research, but I'm not sure where to start exactly. If a fellow Austrian browses /k/ then that would be ideal obviously.
I know that I could legally own category D, C and B weapons depending on the bureaucratic nonsense I'm willing to put up with, so that's most things except for shotguns with a very short barrel, pump action shotguns, fully automatic rifles, etc.
What I'm worried about are additional costs for storage, transportation, that sort of thing.
How/where do I learn proper maintenance? Again, how much do I need to expect maintenance to add to the overall cost?
First rifle/shotgun/handgun for someone completely new to this?
Also, do I have to just deal with hearing damage over time? Playing music is another hobby of mine and hearing damage would obviously be detrimental to that.
As for shooting clubs/ranges, there seem to be some near me. One of them is from the Heeressportverein (military sports club, but it's open to the public) the rest are privately owned. Again, no clue where to start here.

Speak to your local gun shop owner. I lived in Austria for two years and mine were very helpful (in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg and various shops and ranges I visited across the country). They even put up with my terrible German and stupid questions, so they'll be happy to help you. This was decades ago, but I've returned since and they're as friendly as ever.

Most weapons will have maintenance guides available from the manufacturer. Check their website.

Not at all. Acquire some hearing protection. It's very good these days.

Joining a club is always a good idea, particularly when you're new to the sport. They will usually have club weapons that you can use, particularly on open days.
You should also ask your grandfather. He's looked after and used those weapons for years, probably decades, so he'll know them inside and out.

I advise you to look up intro threads on the websites pulverdampf and iwoe.
They have all the info you need.
Additionally, you can look up the individual laws that regulate this kinda stuff here.
Oh and by the way, if your grandfather is a hunter, you can keep all the weapons because they are probably Kategorie C and D. You only need a gun safe.

I have that exact model. I've owned mine for 3 years and use it almost weekly. Got it for $150 OFF Armslist.
Literally never had a single problem with mine. After shooting it a couple times, I buffed and polished any parts that might have rubbed. Also replaced the pump.
One day out shooting, my friends couldn't believe that my 88 was smoother than their Gucci 500's.
I recommend it! 500's & 590's are great too. But for the price -- 88 all the way.

Ok so there was an interesting thread earlier today which had the following premise:
Aliens have selected you to travel back in time to prehistory - say 50,000 years ago. You must survive for twenty years. You get to take ten items with you, as much as you can carry unaided. If you survve you get your twenty years back pls 100 million dollars. The whole thing is for a reality show.
Ok so. What ten items? Assume a weapon, ammo and cleaning/maintenance kit is one item. The limiting factor here is weight.
Remember you will have to contend with predators far more formidable than today's - sabre-toothe tigers, giant lions, short-faced bears, cave hyenas, dire wolves etc.
New factor: Humans. you are dropped into inter-glacial Europe when Homo sapiens sapiens is moving north and encountering Homo neanderthalis. There are probably several other human species knocking around too.
So, what do you take? What is you short-term, mid-term and long-term survival strategy?
