Hi-point and hi-point carbine.
Anything better is about $600 for a well-maintained rifle and at least $700 for a handgun that isn't complete shit.
If you desperately need a gun, I would recommend whatever handgun your LGS is willing to give you for what you have.
Most sub-thousand dollar 1911s are unreliable garbage, glocks below a thousand bucks will probably explode on you, and revolvers are universaly throwaway guns that have been used in about a billion and one murders.
Look for a ruger or similar, inspect before you buy, and don't expect much.

If you aren't recieving anonymous death threats, put whatever you have into a good cleaning kit and some WD40, then see if there is anything that really interests you available for what you have left.
Leverguns are generally pretty good, but avoid newer marlins, don't buy an arisaka under any circumstances, any AR for less than $700 isn't worth it, WASRs are for human garbage, be sure to inspect the action and bore of anything before you pay for it, and .22 anything is a fucking meme.
