I just got this spanish 1916 mauser and it looks like the entire barrel including both sights is canted a few degrees clockwise. Is there a way to fix this?
The gun is otherwise beautiful with very little wear. I'm willing to pay for a gunsmith.

Take it to a gunsmith and see what he says. I don't know why it would be canted like that. It's possible that the barrel was removed from the receiver and screwed back on impoperly. Is it chambered for 8x57 or something else? If that's the case then their could be a headspace issue as well. Get it looked at.

Savage hog hunter in .308
One of the few bolt-actions new on the market with iron sights, and modern bolt guns are much easier to operate than milsurp. As much as the rest of /k/ will try to convince you otherwise, loading stripper clips and cycling the action of a 70+ year old gun is more difficult than it looks. You'll find a modern production gun to always be easier to work than a relic, including relics like the Enfield known for the speed of their bolt operation.
If you have to go milsurp, the Enfield is the easiest to learn on because of its aperture sights, but .303 British is harder to find and more expensive than 8MM or other full-size calibers (at least in the U.S.)

So I'm going on HotRod magazine's Drag Week event, and that means a round trip 5,000 mile excursion.
I'll be leaving Cali and driving to Illinois and then Wisconsin, and then back.
What funs should I take with me?
I've got a few options:
1. My 10.5" AR pistol bild
2. M&P Shield
3. Walther P99
Basically something to have with while I drive a hell of a long way, just in case.
