So I found 3 rifles in my grandparents attic in Normandy, 2 MAS 36 and a Mauser 98. I am a gun iliterate and have no idea where the fuck to go to restore them (I'm in Franceistan, so if they get restored I don't even know if I can keep them)
If there are any Frenchfags, pls help.
Ou dois-je aller pour les restaurer? Je suis dans le Calvados (14)

What makes you think they need restoring? Unless the internals are as rusted as that barrel exterior, they should still be fine. Use lots of oil, clean gently, and keep them oiled to prevent further corrosion.

Consider electrolysis, if the rusted parts are causing you grave concern.

Holy fuck dude Hide that shit. You need it for the coming race war. Get oil and a good set of punches and screwdriver set. and a rod and brush so you can clean the bore. Find some 8mm Mauser and 8mm Lebel before its to late. Hope this is legit and not bait. Get ready to defend your home dog

I'm fascinated lately with life and death and was wondering what is the quickest most silent way to die.

Take for example hanging... it's silent alright, although the person stays there struggling for quite a while.
Then there's the carotid arteries, said to end one's life in under 30 seconds, if severed... of course, many times the person is screaming while chocking on their own blood.
And then there's the most fascinating death I've ever seen in the animal kingdom... which was a jaguar sinking it's mandible in the nape of a croc killing it in under a second without any sound.

Just wow. How does that work?

Not if you do it right.
PROTIP: the goal is a broken neck, not suffocation.

Also, don't cut yourself on that edge.

The more fascinating thing is keeping a person alive who is dying.

Czechs to add right to keep and bear Arms to Constitution. In response to upcoming EU legislation to further restrict firearms ownership, the Czech Ministry of Interior proposed a constitutional amendment on 15 December 2016 aimed at providing constitutional right to acquire, possess and carry firearms.

The proposed law will, if passed, add a new section to Constitutional Act No. 110/1998 Col., on Security of the Czech Republic, expressly providing the right to be armed as part of citizen's duty of participation in provision of internal order, security and democratic order.

According to explanatory note to the proposal, it aims at utilisation of already existing specific conditions as regards firearms ownership in the Czech Republic (2.75% concealed carry rate) for security purposes as a reaction to current threats - especially isolated attacks against soft targets. While there is constitutional right to self defense, its practical utilization without any weapon is only illusory.

The note further elaborates that unlike in the rest of the EU, where most guns are owned for hunting, vast majority of Czech gun owners possess firearms suitable for protection of life, health and property, explicitely mentioning, inter alia, semi-automatic rifles (which are subject to the proposed EU Gun Ban, see above).

Czech here, i just hope Switzerland, Finland and othere fairly pro gun countries will do something as well. Also, on what OP posted, according to out media, most of our goverment would be happy to pass it, including our minister of interior i think

I'll bet you're super fun at parties.

Lets talk about thumb safety.

Ok, so I was thinking about getting a CC pistol.

Apparently, If I have a thumb safety, I'm an idiot, have a higher chance of getting myself killed, ect.

I refuse to believe that the disadvantages of having a manual safety out weigh the benefits.

dont be retarded and you wont shoot something you dont want to

Then you're already beyond help. Countless videos of self defense shootings exists showing that manual safeties get people killed. You're an idiot my dude.

So is it legal to just kill any small game on your property? Can you just shoot birds and squirrels around your farm as long as they're not protected type?

What about raccoons? Can you leave bait out for raccoons and shoot them legally?

I don't get why people still use this round, i mean lets compare it to its most common rival, the 5.56x45mm.

For every 10kg of weight you can carry 33 magazines of 5.56x45mm or mere 13 magazines of 7.62x39mm.

5.56x45mm has a lot flatter trajectory than 7.62x39mm.

5.56x45mm has 3.84p of recoil while the 7.62x39mm has 5.904p of recoil therefore followup shots are a lot faster with with the 5.56x45mm.

5.56x45mm shrapnels inside the body creating huge wound channels compared to the 7.62x39mm that only tumbles creating very small found channels.

Because the average person is using it to poke holes in paper or kill deer from <300 yards.

For those applications, 7.62x39 performs just fine.

Stand aside, patrician coming through

Weapons design thread? Weapon design thread.

Ever had a fever dream that resulted in an idea for a gun? Doesn't have to be complex even something like a bubba job would be fine.

This is my idea.
Drill and tap a single action revolver and add a gas block with an attached captive piston. Extend and bulk up the hammer too.

In theory it's now a semi auto revolver that auto cocks itself after every shot using the piston.

Could this work? How would you improve it?

Reminds me of the story of John browning and his brothers tinkering with a Winchester 1873 by attaching a gas piston to the lever. You can see the principle in his potato digger machine gun a few years later
