How strong would the average warrior have been back in the day compared to today's men? From the Romans, to Germanic tribes or Mongols, anything goes.
>>33366166
A modern soldier or any given average dude?
Basically the guys in antiquity are pretty much guaranteed to be hard as fuck, but they aren't going to be as big or as strong as a modern infantry soldier in a western army because of nutrition and sports science.
>>33366166
You think they were harder. But probably not.
The typical soldier or marine carries more weight. Knights armor weighed on average 30 pounds.
Spartans had guys carry their stuff for them. No disrespect to the guys that came before us, bury don't put them on a pedestal.
They're probably not going to be as big as guys who train hard with all the advancements of modern times like nutrition, supplements, scientific understanding, modern techniques and excersize and equipment etc And modern people are capable of being just as 'hard'.
But a hard, physical life, likely with training from child, will do wonders for physical and mental robustness, resistance to injury, endurance and strength. The average person in those days was in far, far better physical condition that the average guy these days who probably lives a sedatary life except going for a 3 mile jog a couple of times per week.

Heyo /k/ I'm studying the Remington 1858's customization options and I just want to play with it
Suppose that I wanted two things:
1 - Swap from Ball & Cap to accept cartridges, but I don't want to remove the cylinder to reload, is there something like a reloading gate for it
2 - Would still want to go back to ball & cap and have these two options interchangeable whenever I want
Is it doable? I'm not too familiar with converters so maybe someone here has worked with them can help me out
Thanks
>>33365962
The second one is ezpz, but dunno the first.
It would surprise me.
There is a loading gate option, but I don't think you can convert it back to cap and ball. Also it looks like a pain in the ass to convert.

Easy peasy with the Remus. I got the R&D conversion cylinder and go back and forth at will.

But if you had the same setup in 9mm, it would be the same size and weight or less while still having higher capacity.

I understand the need for a good PR campaign for "modern sporting rifles," but we really need to find a better term. The problem with the name "modern sporting rifles" is that it implies that these weapons are a breed apart from all other semi-auto sporting rifles, which is simply false. Semi-auto sporting rifles have been on the American market since 1903. 1903! That was before Americans could even buy cars.
>>33365721
Of course it's some ugly ass camo.
The term "modern sporting rifle" is fucking lame. It's an apologist's approach to debunking the term "assault rifle"
This is a semi automatic rifle, through and through. Not an assault rifle, modern sporting rifle or any of that gay shit. Semi automatic rifle.
I don't own an ar for sporting purposes. I have one to defend myself and my family by shooting someone who dares try to cause harm to any of my loved ones.
>>33365761
>It's an apologist's approach to debunking the term "assault rifle"
There is no debunking. Assault rifle is a real term. The only reason most of you people have AR-15s that cannot be assault rifles is because they're not select fire.
why don't they import these yet? They only accept 10 round mags, have no muzzle device, pistol grip, or any "assault" features
they should be able to be imported as is but they aren't

Honestly, it's hard to tell
Heinlein's books are varied
SST is "fascist conservative" while The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is very very libertarian and Stranger in Strange Land is very very liberal
Hard to tell what he was
I fucking love Artillery but it never gets the credit it deserves. I was just recently looking back in Gerald Bull and his designs and wondering if many of his improvements were integrated into other systems. Let's talk big guns, shells, and fuzes!
I was looking into WWI era artillery shells and I found this image of Italian Fuses. I was struck by the complexity and amount of work it must of took to machine and hand assemble only to be blown up.

Hey /k/ what do you all know about these little 22 stoegers.
Are they a good buy? Should I trade my yugo sks for one?
Etc.
Also novelty gun thread
They are good but I don't think they're Yugo SKS good. I saw one at the last gun show I went to for $200.
>>33364927
Stoeger Erma .22 LR Lugers are dope little guns and Yugo SKS a shit. Not a 1-to-1 though unless the Luger is mint.
I like my sks a lot, never shot a luger 22, looks fun tho.

So, took a trip down to Indianapolis today for the Indy 1500 gun show. First time going down for it, and I was....Kinda underwhelmed, but that's a different rant.
I've always been a fan of older, milsurp and antique firearms, simply from a collectors viewpoint. Naturally, the Nagant revolver is in that group, and I've always kinda wanted one, just for the sake of having one. Decided maybe I'd check around down there today to see if I came across any. Lo and behold, one of the private vendors actually did, much to my surprise. So I go up to ask him about it, chat a bit, and finally get to the price.....
Motherfucker wanted $550 for the fucking thing! I thought that was just ridiculous, so I got home and did some looking on Gunbroker.....They've got a handful, ranging from $200, up to fucking $2,800....Did I miss something, where they discovered that these shitty, mass produced guns were discovered to be made out of literal Mithril or something?
>>33364854
Supply dwindled and prices rose. You missed the boat.
>>33364875
Fuckin apparently. Couple decent priced ones on GB....Meh.
Classic Firearms had some nice looking ones with a repro holster and a cleaning kit for about $300 a couple years back, but I'd rather spend my money on a shooter rather than a collectable.
