Were pistols ever booby trapped by the Germans during WW2?
One of my relatives who fought in WW2 brought back a P38 as a souvenir. According to my family's lore, the pistol is apparently booby trapped and has sat untouched in its holster ever since it was brought here and passed down to me. Before risking my appendages, I'd like to know if pistols were ever booby trapped during WW2 and in what manner. Hopefully not, because I'd hate to let it sit without maintenance any longer.
How the fuck would they booby-trap it that wouldn't be immediately obvious?
If his kids are dumb enough to believe their father would bring a live booby-trap back as a souvenir then maybe he was actually stupid enough to do it.
But seriously, there's nothing to be concerned about. They're just retarded fudds.

If I had to guess, I'd say a false magazine packed with explosives.

Historically the IJN expected that it would self-destruct at Leyte Gulf but that it would also take out the US Navy forces with it. IOTL the US Navy came very near to giving them an opportunity to actually do this. What would be the consequences of an Axis naval victory in the fall of 1944 on this scale not in the Atlantic but instead in the Pacific? US Naval superiority by this point is unalterable, and it would take more than this for Homma to do in Dugout Doug, but what realistically would happen in this case?
I can't see US self-esteem handling too well a defeat in the largest naval battle in history. Would Japan's military ego in the postwar era be smoothed a little by one last big victory? Or would this just further the reasons to firebomb almost all Japanese cities to rubble as revenge? Japan never had a chance to win the war, but a naval victory in October of 1944 would probably complicate the direct path of Allied victory at least somewhat.
To clarify one thing-this is not asking for how Japan could win a complete or decisive victory. Even if they somehow managed to do that in the immediate vicinity they've nothing by 1944 that can possibly win the war.
I'm not sure what you're asking
The IJN was effectively finished after Midway.
>Would Japan's military ego in the postwar era be smoothed a little by one last big victory?
Not really, they still lost
>Or would this just further the reasons to firebomb almost all Japanese cities to rubble as revenge?
But we did anyway
> a naval victory in October of 1944 would probably complicate the direct path of Allied victory at least somewhat
Well yeah, but it wouldn't change anything aside from dragging it out longer.
If the Japanese had stuck around long enough to destroy Taffy 3 and the landing forces then Task Force 38 would've had the time to turnn around and come down on them like a hammer.
What if Japan wins the Battle of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Then what?

I've been browsing gunbroker for a hex receiver m91/30 and they're all fucking laser etched on the left hand side of the receiver. Why is this? Why can't I find one that isn't etched?

One is still in military service around the world and was used by most military's at one point. It is also still fairly competitive even in the modern world.
And the other is the 1911

Point for point the Hi Power. Don't get me wrong both are pretty good, the Hi Power is just better.
Hey /k/. I just bought this US army Uniform at an Autorin today and I was wondering if anyone knew what issue and period it is
Looks to be Vietnam-era. Not too sure.

Could be anywhere from 1956 to 2014. Going to need photos of the tags to tell you more. The one in the inside pocket.
I know carrying a pistol gives you a sense of security, but it's a false sense of security. If a mugger pulls a gun (or even a knife) on you, it's unlikely that you'll be able draw fast enough to kill him before he kills or at least severely injures you. And open carry is a great way to get killed by someone looking to steal your gun.

It is also unlikely you will outrun a bullet
It is unlikely for you to defeat any attacker who slips through your situational awareness

Do you think there has ever been an example of a orphan being taken in and trained in CQB, weapons handling, hand to hand combat, survival skills and trained from the age of seven to become the ultimate operator? The US gov could use them in all out deniable ops.
>>33371896
Didn't Russia do some thing like that?
More likely to end up with a broken kid that pisses himself if someone clears their throat loudly than you are a Spartan 2.
>>33371896
No, because that wouldn't work. You would end up with kids who resent the people who raised them and now you have given them all the training they need to fuck your shit up.
Let's gets a good propaganda thread going on
Sup /k/ommandos. I recently went on a binge of /k/ related movies from the 60s. Mostly spaghetti westerns but also just action films in general and a interesting thought came to mind. Why was the gun handling such shit back in those days? Its weird because during this time a majority of working age males have military experience due to the draft and of course the major wars of the period. Yet it wasn't until the late 90s that we started seeing proper firearms, which is counter intuitive because by this time many actors have zero military experience. Were WW2 and Nam vets just a bunch of slack jawed fudds?
>>33371714
>proper firearms
It's a fucking western. Of course they're calling Colt Peacemakers and Winchester lever actions. What do you expect? Cowboys carrying Glocks? It's a wonder they didn't have more anachronisms than they did.
Trigger discipline and the fundamental safety rules weren't a thing back then like they are now.
I asked my dad once about trigger discipline in vietnam and he said it juat wasn't a thing.
>>33371726
>Trigger discipline
Trigger discipline is a stupid meme created by people who have never been in a gunfight.
