Clerical Caretaker Edition
> What's this thread about?
As usual this thread is for the discussion and pics of tracked and wheeled AFVs of all kinds from MBTs to supertanks to self propelled AA guns. Please keep it civil and cite sources for statistics.
The M7B2 Priest of US origin had already distinguished itself many times over during the WWII as a mobile and relatively logistically conservative method of light artillery support to troops in the field. It had become a widespread fixture of the combined Allied forces, with Commonwealth and US operations employing them in significant numbers. Nevertheless, the utility of the Priest of constrained by its usage of the 105 mm M1/M2 Howitzer, which required American ammunition. As such, the Canadian Department of Munitions and Supply's Army Engineering Design Branch endeavoured to build an artillery vehicle of their own using the obsolete Ram tank chassis. In June 1942, a prototype emerged sporting the QF 25 pdr, and 124 Ram artillery platforms were produced for the Canadian Army. After a prototype was sent to the United Kingdom for evaluation in 1943, the vehicle was dubbed the “Sexton”, and 300 more such vehicles were ordered for British use, having been deemed effective. These UK Sextons would be built on Grizzly tank hulls, and as such, the Ram and Grizzly Sextons were differentiated as the Mk I and Mk II respectively. Between 1943 and 1945, the Montreal Locomotive Works would manufacture a total of 2150 Sextons. By September 1943, the Sexton was put into service with notionally all Commonwealth forces fighting in the western theatres, and soon participated in actions in Italy and later Northern France and Northwestern Europe.

OP: As always, feedback, suggestions wanted and appreciated.
The Sexton was a very versatile weapon on the Western Front, in much the same fashion as its predecessor the Priest had been. The Sexton’s gun could be utilised either as a direct fire platform, or to enact “plunging fire” over an arc. A common situation for the Sexton would be a hill blocking concentrations of enemy forces, which would be countered by firing in a maximally elevated arc with minimum charges onto the enemy. In other cases, the Sexton would move up under cover of darkness and act as hit and run weapons. In most cases, however, the Sexton was kept well in the rear lines to provide rapid reaction artillery support in conjunction with forward observers. A commonly associated anecdote with the Sexton is its role during the D-Day landings, where it offered indirect fire from vehicle barges located on the choppy sea, providing an impressive, but somewhat ineffective spectacle. The best part of the Sexton, however, was its consistent ability to keep up with rapid manoeuvres of troops after the initial breakout in France, powered by a Continental R-975 9-cylinder gasoline engine. The Canadians used a disproportionate number of Sextons for their force size, with the 8th, 19th and 23rd field SP artillery regiments operating at one time. In fact, the Canadians would use the Sexton well into the 1950s, employing them during the Korean War.
