In the event of a nuclear attack, what kind of defense capabilities does the US realistically have?

How bad do you think the fuck up was with the French in WW2? Their tanks were high tech for their time, take for instance the Somua S35. Single man casted turrents that were small targets but strain on the one man crew and it's self healing fuel tank that patched over holes and more. So why did they lose?
>>33604553
>why did they lose
bad tactics and outdated thinking
Through the highly inefficient use of those tanks. 1 on 1 the French tanks were superior to their German counterparts in most regards but the germans didn't fight 1 on 1.
>>33604553
One must consider that armored warfare requires more than just well designed and built tanks.
Manufacturing capability is a huge part of the equation. The Germans had a good understanding of this, and while late-war efforts showed a tendency to over-engineer equipment, it didn't change the fact that they had a well-established industrial capability with skilled workers. On the other hand, the French had the workers and designers, but their industrial capability itself was one, maybe two steps up from bike shops.
In short, the French were building and operating high-tech equipment with low-tech tools and tactics.
What are the best home defense weapons? Preferably diy, all I have right now is a 10 pound dumbbell with one end screwed off. Basically anything go's here.
>>33604514
A stick with a pointy bit tied to the end of it. Machete, short sword, hatchet.
>>33604514
Pipe bombs and molotovs.
My rock hard abs
everyone agrees that the ppsh 41 is the best ww2 smg right?
>>33604497
Heck of a shotgun.
>>33604497
Almost objectively the best but MP40 fags and muh .45 Thompson fags will be here shortly.
My favorite weapon in CoD: World at War :-)
What's a practical defence against bullets?
>inb4 body armor
>>33604464
OP can't inb4
Body armor.
What if we had a big magnet connected to the end of a long pole attached to the front of the helmet. That way when a bullet is coming towards you the magnet will pull it up and bullet will stick to the magnet before it hits you.
Move out of the ghetto.
Its time to talk milsim.
Taking your guns to the range is one thing, but I think we need to take it a step further when preparing for SHTF.
I know that it takes some flak here, but airsoft is the PERFECT way to simulate real combat:
>When I'm with my team I hone my skills in communication and decision making under-fire.
> I know how to breach and clear rooms.
> I know how to deescalate dangerous situations before anyone gets hurt.
> My training pits me against real people, not static paper targets.
>I learn what risks pay off on the battlefield, and the ones that senselessly endanger myself and my teammates.
> Finally, I learn what it means to put a human being in your sights and pull the trigger.
So at the end of the day, win or lose, I know that my blood and sweat are worth it - because when the shit really hits the fan, I am going to be tactically sound.
What are /k/'s thoughts on airsoft as a training medium?
If requested I can share some of the tactical scenarios that my team frequently uses in our training.
>>33604463
Real military training > milsim
Hell, as long as you can slice a room before entering most of it you're good for clearing rooms.
You're fighting a typical engagement within 75m, maybe 100m if you're lucky. Most firefights will take place beyond ranges like this, and you will have to worry a lot more about one-shot accuracy rather than general volume in an area.
The only pros you get from milsim are comms and maybe, MAYBE putting someone in the sights and pulling the trigger.
Most airsoft "tactics" or strategies would get someone killed in a real gunfight, since you have high mobility with low risk at short ranges due to travel times being at or under 500fps and complete immunity to long-range engagements. Unless you start to apply your short-range techniques at 200+m, you'll get shot.
The only thing you learn is how to move with other people, aside from that it's pretty trash for actual figuring out how to fight someone.
t. airsoft player and armed forces hopeful
.....baka....
>>33604463
I mean while milsim is good, one thing you could do is actually take your team find some land and do some live fire manoeuvres if you are serious about training.
With the gunfire, knowing when to move, the added adrenaline etc. It'll add a more realistic atmosphere. Believe me from experience it's all very ready when you are running around yelling bang. When you throw real gunfire into the mix it's a whole new level. I don't know what the laws are on blanks in your area but if you cannot train with blanks it'll help a lot.
For all of you /k/ommandos out there fapping your life away to anime, why don't you grab your fucking nuts and head out to Zimbabwe to overthrow negroid communist Mugabe?
1. Your parents will be glad that you're getting out of the house.
2. You can put your oper8er skills to work.
3. You get to kill communist apes.
4. The Zimbabwean army is so weak and disorganized that a few hundred of you faggots plus starving negroes could win.
5. One of you can rule a country for as long as you stay in power.
6. The "international community" will think that the blacks are being oppressed, so the West and S. Africa will take in Zimbabwean refugees, making our new country less black. Stick it to the neocons.
7. Make "Zimbabwe" Rhodesia Again
Really, this is an amazing idea. Do you want to live a life of purposeless boredom or a life of commie-slaying adventure?
How would you suppose this get started?
>>33604341
Haha and get demonized by the entire western world? Pass. I don't want to get CIA'd in my sleep then go in the history books as being the bad guys.

>The Zimbabwean army is so weak and disorganized that a few hundred of you faggots plus starving negroes could win.
Kek I'd love to see this go down. /k/'s final stand.
My downstairs neighbor just walked upstairs and pounded on my door.
I live alone and I don't know the guy. Wasn't expecting anyone and it's late so it freaked me out.
I grabbed my AK from the corner of my room,
walked out into my living room and looked through the peephole.
I didn't recognize the dude, I didn't open the door, asked who he was.
He said he was my downstairs neighbor and complained about some knocking or some bullshit. I told him I didn't know what he was talking about and he left.
Now I hear him stomping around downstairs. Obviously pissed.
Shit really makes me anxious and uncomfortable as fuck. I don't like angry strangers knocking on my door at night to confront me about shit I have nothing to do with.
Whats the proper self defense strategy here in case he comes back? This guy might be drunk or something. Should I barricade my door?
>>33604275
>annoys neighbor

Just curious, why does the USMC want to buy a bunch of 3k decked out AR-15s when they could just put a longer barrel on the M4?
>>33604230
because they leave budget concerns to the pentagon
back in the day they dealt with m1903's when the army had Garands
It's gas-piston, not direct impingement.
>>33604230
Some Marine general got some amazing whores on the H&K dime and/or USMC command is inundated with guys who think comparing beat to fuck M4s with 416s is a fair comparison.
I carry a Glock 26 iwb in winter clothing and a Ruger LCP in a pocket holster in summer clothing.
I need a Goldilocks gun for IWB carry in spring/fall.
I've narrowed it down to CM9 or Shield 9.

Questions that don't deserve their own thread
If I were to manufacture a black powder volley gun would it be considered an NFA weapon?
If it would what if it were muzzle loading? Yes I know it's impractical and kind of retarded but im not thinking about practicality.
Went to a gun show this weekend, found a "sporterized" Type 99 Arisaka for next to nothing. Numbers matching receiver and bolt. My intent was to get it back into its original military configuration, but I don't know too much about these things. I've been doing some research, and I thought I had an idea about it's mfg. but some of the markings are more deeply etched than others. Did the japs occasionally send these things back to the arsenal to be refurbished?
Basically, if someone could tell me where/when this thing was made, or if it was done over by an arsenal and sent back or something else, I'd appreciate it. pic is obviously of the receiver, markings on the side will follow. If there's any interest I could post pics of the whole thing, it may be in part of it's original stock, albeit mangled.

Markings on the top**, I'm drunk sorry.
Why do people always harp on about Striker fired pistols being superior to DA/SA, especially for carry guns?
It seems to me like DA/SA has the upper hand
>DA allows double strike in case you get light primer strike, odds are if you were in a situation you'd at least pull the trigger one or two more times before racking the slide anyways
>DA allows for a longer pull so carrying it off safe is less dangerous, yet first shot switches it to SA for better pull afterwards and allows for a really nice SA trigger on a carry pistol, plus you still have option to carry it in SA
>SA/DA come with actual safeties or decockers most of the time, or you can just not use it because you have the option
Striker fire pros
>Might not get snagged on clothes as easily
>Trigger "safety"
>Better triggers according to some? I've yet to find a striker fire trigger I like better than SA/DA ones
I just don't really see where the striker fire is better. Do they make the gun significantly lighter or something? After shooting various guns and looking into it a bit I just don't get why people say striker is superior so much. If there really are serious advantages that's awesome, I'm just having a hard time figuring out what they are.
Is it just people's preference and getting way too up in arms about it? That seems to be all there really is to it. I'll fully admit most of my preferences for SA/DA seem to be purely due to personal preference other than the safety.
>>33604003
They don't.
Strikerfags are just a very loud (slight) majority.
DA/SA is by far superior, as it provides a much crisper, nicer trigger pull (yes, even in DA) for better accuracy.
>>33604003
you forgot to include how striker fired guns are more susceptible to hydro lock and light primer strikes in general.
>>33604003
Apparently humans are incapable of accurately firing a handgun with two different kinds of trigger pulls without exorbitant training. Oh, and they die all the time from forgetting to turn off their safety while drawing(Bad gun design!) but could never accidentally leave their finger in the trigger guard while reholstering and simultaneously trying to maintain situational awareness under stress(Perfectly fine gun design!) NDing.
How was Emmyeats not on my radar sooner? Just saw a thread about MREs yesterday and an Anon put up one of her reviews. Been binge watching her shit all day. She seems like someone /K would get behind. She goes into her reviews seeming ly blind and tries everything like a champ. Also she can string a cohesive sentence together which is nice compared to all the Cleetus tier shit that's out there. Her videos also have some production value (I.e. good lighting and HD).
Anyway general MRE discussion thread.

Historians of the First World War say that the reason all the countries in Europe rushed in preemptively was because they believed that offense was stronger than defense given the technology of the time. This theory is known as the cult of the offensive. What about modern warfare? Is it easier to attack or defend given current military technology? Would technological advancements in defensive warfare give states an incentive to be more peaceful?
