I'm trying to help a friend of mine purchase a handgun for a long hiking trip, likely several months of various hikes throughout the US.
Mainly concerned with 2-legged predators, but the plan would be to keep it in her car and on her person during camping and hiking activities.
I suggested something 10mm if bears were a concern, but I think the plan is to stick to 9x19. She is a relatively inexperienced shooter, but knows her way around basic safety and handling. I'd prefer to get something with an external safety OR SA/DA. Anyone have thoughts on this? Good ideas I might be overlooking? Budget is the $700 mark, but cheaper is better.
Forgot to mention things I'm considering:
M&P Shields (I don't like the capacity though)
Revolvers in .38 or .357 (Because different loads might be better for bears and stuff, but still, capacity and reloading will be issues)
Compact CZ75 and similar (because DA/SA and I like them)
Maybe glocks I fucking guess.
>>33620752
A Glock or Sig in 357 Sig would probably be good for most wildlife.
>>33620733
Glock 20 or 17.
>tfw even in the best operator movies armed henchmen run towards the protagonist one by one for no reason instead of just shooting him
Will we ever have realistic firefights in movies? Or is simply impossible to take on multiple armed people on your own?
>>33620697
>one bad guy lays down suppressive fire
>other two bad guys use bounding cover to move up and flank the good guy
Not impossible just extremely unlikely he'd survive an entire movie
What is Hollywood?
Come on op you know normies dont give a fuck about tactics. They just want to see one badass take on an army of bullet eating grunts. Seeing a realistic tactical exchange would look like ass to normies who just want to see a walking aim bot killing everything that moves. Remember what sells goy
I thought the final scene in the veteran was pretty realistic. The gangsters shoot like niggers but they make active use of cover and cover each others movements with fire as well as you could expect chavs to. The main guy only survives out of luck and advancing aggressively.
What do you guys think is better for close/mid range combat, a low power scope or a red dot?
>>33620584
Depends. Home defense, red dot or true glow, but remember if its dark the light from the sights might fuck up target accusation, real combat go for the optics most firefights start 200 meters plus at least
>>33620617
So it's true, /k/ has become a clusterfuck of retards.

Ok, so the feathers on an arrow are what make it fly straight. We use bullets now because we can shoot them faster than arrows, but why give up the feathers? Would this increase accuracy?
>pic related
Discuss.
Bullets take a flight trajectory much similar to a football when thrown. The more force behind it the farther it goes, i.e. More powder = further flight. This isn't necessarily accurate though, this is seen first with muzzleloaders and lead balls, they shot fast and hard but were inaccurate as fuck, then we added spin to it to help hold its path, to add to that they created what was close to the modern bullet there the base was flat so that there was more of an "arrow" shape to help guide its flight. As gun technology advanced we moved to the current ammo where it's long and thin count to a point at the front (mainly speaking rifle loads) the longer round help stabilize the pitch axis wobble, making a more accurate shot.
The most advanced shot we have now is with the luppa round when it tapers at the end to help with aerodynamics, this round also has the longest range since the last time I check.
The arrow is used in the idea of a bullet but the "feathers" were necessary on arrows because environmental effects had more of an impact on flight trajectory, such as wind blowing the arrow to the side.
When the round is smaller it requires less of the elements that an arrow would of had. The speed is also important, while an arrow is fast it's only a fraction of the speed of a bullet

Do you have a gun? If you do, try this little experiment : take a bullet, tape some feathers on it, then chamber it, see how that turns out.
Then try shooting yourself with it so you don't spread your stupidity anymore.
1/10 I took the bait.

>What is rifling for 400, alex?
Would you buy it? Is it even necessary? http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2017/04/11/chapuis-armes-rols-new-straight-pull-bolt-action-rifle/
>>33620401
What's the price tag? At this point, straight pulls are basically tokens of wealth for hunters.
From experience: Blasers are pretty fucking nice. Considering Chapuis is a fairly classy and high price tag manufacturer, I'd expect to be on par with Blasers.
In euroland straight pull hunting rifles are popular in driven hunts against boars etc where semi-autos are not legal or not "sporting".
Would I buy one? Nah, but I was never their target market though.

How competent/combat effective is the Ethiopian Army? Is it the best army in East Africa?
Rwanda is not far off.
The question that really matters is : how many Toyotas do they have ?
>>33620116
Nope. Sudan is.
Why is CZ like this?
What's stopping them from extending the dust cover to cover the slide rails or cutting the slide rails back a little?
>>33619836
I've often wondered the same thing.
Never seen a cz like this here in europe. Probably some "custom" work your importer does. I know EAA doesnt import small frame tanfos, so the 9mm versions have malfunctions with certain ammo

It's a Shadow.
So /k/. Tom Clancy is pretty gud about making all his novels contain non-fantasy weapons. His team in Rainbow Six carries MP5/10s (they are called MP10s in the book for simplicity) and Berettta .45s.
>book published in '98
>px4 produce from 2004-
What other .45s does Beretta make?
>>33619724
Cougar in .45? So heres one. Any others?
Beretta Model 8045 Cougar

Because if they ask /k/ they end up with shitty guns.

I am having a hard time defending my empty militaria and gear purchases to my significant other.
She said to me in passing that I am a military wannabe and this was very far from what I am. I believe what I'm doing is a combination of preparedness and fun/mental SHTF LARPing. I use a lot of my gear for camping and stuff, the stuff not used in camping is used on range like my chest rigs.
But I think she's talking about my body armor and helmet and high end plate carrier. I always say "better to not need it and have it than etc etc" or I use an airbag in a car analogy but I think she thinks I just want to be an army guy or something.
Does anybody else have this issue?
Why can't normies just let me make empty purchases?
How can I defend my stance of "I just like the way it looks" without sounding like I'm pulling an excuse out of my ass?
Am I just being neurotic?
>>33619152
I bought some deer and my girlfriend raised her eyebrows. But I never went so far as to buy a Kevlar helmet or flak jacket. I can never justify that type of cash when I'm thinking of saving for a wedding ring in a couple years. It's really up to you but keep in mind that the more expensive your purchases the less likely you are to use it
>>33619164

>>33619164
It's just NATO surplus steel helmet and AR500 plates. My "I will be god of the wasteland" stuff is like $500 at the most. The rest is guns and their accessories or camping stuff.
I think her red flag though is my camping stuff is almost ALL milsurp. Like L flashlights, ALICE pack and frame, hammock, e tools, etc. are all milsurp. My storage closet and the surrounding hallway smells like cosmoline and tarp.
I just feel a little insecure about the whole thing as I don't want to be perceived as a wannabe. I don't want to be in the military, I don't have any friends in it, it's just that commission really practical stuff to be made and I really like politics and the military is inseparable from that.
I just want to run around in the woods and shoot guns.
The US military is apparently looking for a new rifle for future use, or at least is likely to in the future
Did Karl & Ian just invent that rifle?
>polymer receiver/stock/grip assembly
>1/8 twist pencil profile barrels
>a bunch of stuff they bought on Amazon
So they get no credit or income from it at all.
Really got that 2030s aesthetic to it
>>33618820
They are just making fun revision on a gun that was imagined with the most cutting edge materials at the time.
This has carbon fiber hand guard and a nice setup they can improve upon.
If they manage to chamber it in 6.5 Cuckend that will be even better.
I dont know why you guys are buthurt.
"it looks like a competition gun" phase does not hold water because any reasonable industry like car industry for example use motosports like F1 to improve on mass produced cars.
3 gun or precision shooting is equivalent to that and it is not unreasonable for us to see horizontal distribution of tech since we hit a plateau in firearm technology advancement.
>>33618820
It needs a collapsible stock before being taken seriously. I also doubt the military would give up their ACOGs, so it'll be a bit heavier than what they said.
>>33618881
I'm realllly conservative when it comes to what I'll put on my rifle.
But unlike ARs tricked out with all the latest meme gear, this actually makes me think of a real future weapon ... enough of a leap from the Armalite Rifle that I really could see stuff like this fielded decades from now.
It's something more than just throwing 2-3 /arg/ meme accessories on a basic rifle... it's O P T I M I Z E D
Was Pershing right in telling other allied commanders to fuck off when they wanted direct control of his forces?
>>33618806
Never heard of him. So he was probably a bitch.
>>33618806
>gave the french all the blacks and said "I dont want them back"
seems like a fair trade
>>33618817
Did that happen? I thought US casualties were higher than most allied forces, partly due to leadership.
Are they a meme?
I think they are wonderful when you want to have something cheap and durable military related to wear outdoors but don't want to go full sperg with wearing camo. Obviously this means only the two tone ones.
Anyone have any experiences with the rarer and more expensive Sposn/SSO gorkas? Compared to cheap BARS which ebay is full of they are more comfortable and the stitching is done better as well quality control. The colors are also more close to earth and not as contrasting, pic related on the right.
Also jacket vs hoodie anorak type with kangaroo pouch, which is better?
Don't people really understand the sizing? It's not that baggy unless you fuck up and get two sizes too big.
>meme
I like the plain color one, it looks like a diver suit. This is all I can say based on my uninformed opinion.
