US army combat medic here fresh out of AIT. I just arrived to my unit and talked to some of the medics who have been in the army for quite some time. They asked me if I've been researching stuff on my my own and when I said no they looked at me like I was a piece of shit. I completely understand why so I tried today to look up online forums and books to study but I can't really find anything relevant to what I'm going to be doing. I purchased the ranger medic handbook which I intend to study when it ships. Are there any medic fags with experience that can recommend me some articles to read or websites I can use to study on my freetime? thanks in advance

I'm not a combat medic, but the two things that stick out in my mind would be:
1) read as many books as you can that discuss the effect of gunshots on the body. Massad Ayoob has several well regarded ones.
2) Study human anatomy in general. There are probably classic books on these topics that would be used in medical school. Google could probably help you identify them. Find what's considered "the standard" and study it.
3) Many military manuals discuss emergency procedures. I know the "SAS Survival Handbook" does; I would assume there are other similar works.
4) Check out training for related fields. I would imagine there are books/manuals for EMTs that would probably have a lot overlap for a combat medic.
5) Study up on your tools. Things like clotting agents, tourniquets, etc. Who makes the best ones? Why? What makes one better than another? Companies are constantly making new products in these fields so it would make sense for you to know about them.

Who do you think will be the next country to build nukes?
Are there any countries that have the missiles, have the civil nuclear reactors and have the scientific knowledge to build nukes practically overnight?
>>33783652
Brazil. Their sheer hue factor irradiates everything with cancer, so they must have some sort of isotopes to make bombs with.
>>33783652
Not overnight, but Iran and then the Saudis are probably next
>>33783652
Ukraine.
How sharp were the swords that fought battles back in the day? I have a cheap machete that I sharpened a little bit and it's decently sharp i guess, but I can't imagine it cutting somebody in half or making a huge gash in somebody's lower torso no matter how hard you swung it.
It would definitaly gash a skull, ribs or limb but that's it, even with something like a denim jacket it wouldn't slice clean through.
So were old swords like this? Were they mostly for chopping limbs and stabbing torsos as opposed to doing massive damage from slashing at someone's mid body? How did old sword combat work?
>>33783522
>How did old sword combat work
You thrust at unarmoured parts or hit the helmet hard enough for the opponent to see the stars
>>33783522
Most were not very sharp, and they don't need to be, either. Even a blunt edge is easily capable of breaking bones and causing internal damage even if it doesn't break the skin (which it probably would anyway).
Check out the NOVA special called "secrets of the viking sword". It's on youtube Near the beginning of the video there is a neat demonstration comparing a blunt medieval bastard sword vs. a sharp Katana.
Sword combat changed a lot over time as well. It really depended on armor technology of the day. You had an arms race between swords and armor. Full plate armor made the wearer pretty much impervious to a sword so pointed weapons like picks and warhammers were used instead. Then the gun was invented which could shoot clean through plate armor. At that point there was no need to wear heavy plate armor so that's when you had the development of things like the "small sword" and classic fencing weapons like a saber or rapier. When people aren't wearing armor you don't need a very large sword to kill.

How sharp is a kitchen knife?
Same deal with swords - it depended entirely on how sharp the wielder liked to keep his sword.
So I have acquired a good amount of 12 GAUGE BRASS SHOTGUN SHELLS REM/UMC BEST.
See attached picture for headstamp. I was wondering if anyone on K actually reloads brass shotgun shells.I reload but definitely not for shotgun, I don't even have equipment for it. I know these are potentially pre World War II. I was thinking about dumping them on GunBroker but have no idea how much to ask for them. If any of you guys have any experience with these would love to know about it.
Also General brass shotgun shells / cowboy action.
bump
Anon, I do load my own 12 ga. And those brass are definitely interesting. Sure you could make something outta them but I can't say how much.
But as a loader I can see that the primers doesn't seem like the modern primers for shotshells. Check if they are boxer primer first, then you should punch one out and take measurements of the primer pocket. Gotta be sure of what primers you would need first.
Loading 12 ga is easy but a little tedious if you don't have really specific equipment, because you have to weight both powder and shot. Positive side tho, most of the loads can be charges with pistol powders. If you have something for .38 SPL or .357 Mag you're set.

I hope your plowing at least one of them.
I'm a Britbong that is now a US resident. What guns should I get?
Relish in the brit guns you couldn't' have before
an ar-15
a pump action shotgun in 12 gauge
a handgun in 9mm
pretty much start out with those and then maybe grab a 10/22 and some other handguns in other calibers/sizes
The only acceptable answer.
All of them.
Would Germany be the hardest country to mount a naval invasion of?
Think if they put 2-3% of their GDP towards building hundreds of diesel electric subs and flooding their small coastline with them.
That's why you go through France
>>33783182
>hurr durr if a country put its entire people to work building subs would they have a big navy
what is this autism?
Kazakhstan would be the hardest.
You gotta risk going through the Dardanelles, then negotiate a path through the Volga-Don canal, then actually fight a large land army from the Caspian.
Is it safe to buy solvent traps and the like? I truly want something cheap but I see that all the ones on eBay seem to be 100 dollars or so and thats really expensive.
On an unrelated note how would one drill centered holes into freeze plugs and do they need to be pressed into a cone? Can you do so with no drill press or hydraulic press?
As for the mods who deleted my last thread on solvent traps, they are entirely legal and break no rules. So fuck off hotpockets.
>>33783179
>they are entirely legal and break no rules.
ATF stop trying to trap people with your tomfoolery
>>33783179
>solvent traps, they are entirely legal and break no rules.
Nope.
>>33783188
Buying a solvent trap is legal retard and even converting it into a suppressor Is legal with a form 1.
>Buy a new gun every few months.
>Immediately start wanting another one so you have more to shoot even though you already love the one you bought.
>Realize you may have a gun addiction.
This happens every time I buy a gun.

>TFW have bought a gun every month since I started
Send help.
>>33783169
Slacker. There are plenty of single shot 20 gauge shotguns that need your love at a fraction of the price! you can line them up into a coffee table or kitchen counter.
>>33783169
You feel it too, don't you?
>notice I'm buying too many guns
>decide to keep a strict list
>something on the list just happens to show up conveniently at a good price
>buy it because I'd kick myself for missing out on such a good opportunity
>another gun on the list shows up right after
>rinse repeat
Never had a gun before, but recently decided I wanted to start shooting for fun. I am personally more interested in a revolver because I like the look of them.
My question is:
"Is a Chiappa Rhino 40DS a decent gun?"
I've read online a few reviews and it seems to be reliable, has a good recoil, and it looks cool as hell. But i want to be as informed as possible before I make my decison.
Beyond that, if i decided to get the Rhino, should I get the 50DS or 60DS?
chiappa rhinos are notoriously unreliable and therefore a terrible choice for a first gun.
Get something like a S&W 686 for your first and then get a chiappa as your "car that's usually at the mechanics but is fun on the weekends"
>Is the 40DS a decent gun
Relative to other revolvers on the market with a similar purpose and price point, it is a less than ideal choice. The build quality of the Chiappa is worse (about on par with Taurus), while the gun itself is significantly more expensive than other .357 Magnum service sized revolvers.
For comparison, it is 1.5x as much as a GP100 or 1.3x as much as 686, and the only thing it has over those guns is its 6 'o clock barrel. Every other aspect of it is worse. Furthermore, compared to the aforementioned GP100 or 686, it has an absolutely tiny aftermarket and significantly worse customer support due to Chiappa USA being an absolutely tiny outfit. Get it if you want a space revolver, but know that better options exist.

Why is that? Also what hand guard are you using? I want something to cover at least the 3 lug mount and adapter.
>>33782502
Tbh that handguard needs like, 6-8 more inches for that gun to not look retarded

Ya I was using an osprey on it before the octane came back. DESU it looks a lot better direct threaded but I want to change it as you'll realize if you read the rest of the my post.
