Hey /k/ I was wondering what is a good gun in each category. So like best shotgun, assault rifle, pistol,sniper rifle(or hunting rifle), SMG, and LMG(but we all know it's the stoner 63). All under 1000 dollars but that's not my budget. Thanks!

Okay so I actually like and use ranger plates, but I can't fucking stand tacti-cool fags who don't even understand what they do. THEY ARE NOT PULL TABS. Yes they can be used like them, but that's not their purpose. I have friends who bought them because "I need to minimize my reload time and MUH POSITIVE CONTROL of the mag helps me de-pouch it and reload as EFFICIENTLY as possible. I'm really trying to STREAMLINE". No. The ranger plate is curved in such a way that when you hit the deck to a prone position and the mag hits the ground, it rolls the gun up in the direction you were aiming/looking at before diving. THAT IS IT'S PURPOSE. Exactly the same as the FN-X's ugly ass mags that everyone seems to love to hate.

What other firearm misconceptions piss you off /k/?

I'm genuinely curious as to what appeal fully automatic weapons possess for the civilian market.
If all the NFA stuff and Hughes were repealed tomorrow, what would be the draw? Once everyone finishes buying new pants after creaming all their existing pairs, how long until the sheer novelty of being able to own FA wears off?
Obviously the value of existing transferables would plummet and a new market would pop up, so collectibility basically goes out the window.
I don't think anyone here is going to be doing any suppressing fire any time soon (outside of drills).
I'm pretty sure FA is not the most viable hunting technique (maybe spraying into packs of feral hogs could be useful).
Reduced controllability throws marksmanship right out, so you're not going to use it for target practice to git gud.
So, really, other than "it's cool" why do people act like it's a feature we've all been sorely missing?

So I'm pretty new to the whole gun thing. Recently got my first (pic related). I'm trying to decide what ammo to load each tube with. I'm pretty sure I want the Winchester PDX1S in one tube - that's those slugs that segment upon contact with targets, and look like they are devastating. I think that a 00 buckshot of some sort is ideal. The Federal PD132 buckshot has really great reviews, but that's in many ways because of the tight spread, and I'm not sure that I need that when I have a slug already loaded. Thoughts?

Also, shotgun general, I'm curious what /k/ thinks about Remington 870 vs. the Mossberg line too.

(Doing .40 because I already have a shitload of .40 rounds, would prefer a 9mm but I am a poorfag and can't afford the ammo as well.)

The free floating handguard on my AR is a pain in the ass to remove so I don't see myself ever taking it off unless absolutely necessary.

I'm a little concerned about the barrel rusting underneath it. What is the best grease or oil that I can apply to the outside of the barrel so that it's protected from rust for as long as possible? One that doesn't pick up too much crud if possible.
