What about it? People shit on it because it was huge, but they forget that it was pretty flush and practical by the end of its life cycle. Combi-guns are a stupid clunky idea to start with and it would never have been that great with only a 20mm launcher, but Id have been curious to know just how small and handy they could have gotten it with 2017 electronics and design approaches.

The sa80 is shit because of its heritage, it came from the AR18 which was designed like an AR15 but out of lower quality material and less quality control than a regular AR. Think folded sheet metal versus milled steel. The AR18 was pretty much a commercial failure but its original purpose was to sell to poor nations who couldn't afford standard AR/M16s. The British took it and made it into a bullpup, which usually means poor handling and weight problems when you just turn a standard rifle into a bullpup but a problem with almost all bullpups is a creepy as fuck trigger.

They dont, more countries are moving away from them than adopting them. They made sense during the cold war where infantry would be doing a lot of riding around in cramped APCs, but less so now. As for civilians, it literally does not matter, just buy what you like.

For some militaries, it isn't a meme.
What a bullpup gives:
1. Long barrel in short gun
1A. Good fragmenting range for 5.56 out of carbine length gun
1B. Low rotational moment on inertia and overhand, making maneuvering the weapon less tiring.
2. There's nothing else.
Disadvantages:
1. Feels wrong if trained on conventional gun.
2. CG is too far back for comfortable single hand carry
3. Short sight radius
4. Easier for gunk to build up in action
5. Face closer to boom tube
6. Not truly ambi (most designs)
And so on.
For many militaries however, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages; the shorter gun is better for CQC and carrying in confined spaces like APCs, they're quicker to point nd so on for reaction shooting.
For conscripts, disadvantage 1 is irrelevant, for 2 you've got a sling, 3 is irrelevant thanks to optics, 4 is a bit of a problem, 5 irrelevant with 5.56, so on the whole the bullpup isn't a meme for them.
If you don't ride a battlebox with 10 other people it may be a meme for you.
