If someone managed to do it, the gun would be whisper quiet, no?
What would the ATF do? Since it wouldn't have any attachment to the barrel?
This is going to be a fun thread
Not sure if this is possible. While you could probably match the amplitude and frequency of the shot, I don't think you could match the actual position of the wave to make it deconstructive interference. You would just as likely create constructive, I would guess, just because of how complex a gunshot is.
>>34151060
could you do it with a pipe around the barrel, and maybe transfer the wave to the forward end of the pipe and leave the back end free-floating?
Any legalese dudes here that can answer a question. Just bought a ka-bar and virginia law states "It is illegal to conceal carry a dirk, bowie knife, switchblade, machete, ballistic knife, throwing starts or oriental darts, or any knife of a like kind."
Here's the question, does a full size ka-bar count as a "like kind" to any of the above? Obviously not things like switch blade or throwing star but I could see how its size might make it similar to a bowie knife. Any opinions? I'll probably call the sheriff's department tomorrow and ask, just thought I'd see what you guys thought first.
>>34151026
It depends on how much you pissed off the cop who stops you.

Ah. I'm white so that shouldn't be a problem.

How come every modern war movie set in the middle east portrays every soldier as some good ol boy redneck? How come Hollywood thinks all super badass mega special forces are some hicks from the south?
>Act of Valor
>Black Hawk Down
>American Sniper
The list goes on
Jews.
>>34150954
'Act of Valor' used actual active duty operators. 'BHD' didn't seem overly rednecky; there was like one overtly "southern" guy (M60 dude) and the rest were just dudes. 'American Sniper' was based on a dude with a very public persona of being exactly that type of dude.
Maybe you're a butthurt Californian suffering from a lack of super male vitality?
>>34150997
I'm in idaho.
I just watched Act of Valor and the thing I kept noticing is how redneck they all are. I mean Jar head wasn't redneck at all, Hurt Locker didn't seem that way very much either. What about Lobe Survivor?

Tried posting this in the PA meetup thread and got no response. I live in Philly. I don't own a car (if you live there you'd understand why) so my shooting options are limited to a few pistol ranges in the area.
For my birthday I'm thinking of renting one and taking my AR to some public lands to shoot on so I can shoot at 100 yards or more. What are the best places to go in the Philly area? I'm looking on this website at the different ranges to choose from.
http://www.pgc.pa.gov/HuntTrap/StateGameLands/StateGameLandsRanges/Pages/default.aspx
So far the one at Mt Hawks looks the best. The question I have is are these fudd ranges that don't allow ARs and require bench shooting only? If so are there any places good places that are just in the middle of nowhere to go shoot? I want to be able to shoot at stuff prone, kneeling and standing from 100 yards. I've never really got a chance to do that before.
When I say "in the Philly area" I mean within a days drive or so. I'm willing to drive 2-4 hours out if I have to. I plan on taking two days off to do this. Hopefully I'll have time to go hiking as well.
How do you not own a car? Just sell on of your guns and buy an old school civic that will last for the next 50 years.
>>34150807
Because my guns don't need insurance. My guns don't rack up 500 dollars in parking tickets. My guns don't break down as long as I keep them clean. Not having a car is the only reason I can pay for my hobbies, and everyone I know who has one is in a constant state of anguish over non stop bullshit they have to deal with in the city.

Depends on the year it was manufactured. I think the early ones had some problems, pre-2011 models. Mine runs like a champ.
It shoots smooth as hell because it is a bit beefy. Trigger is decent, might take some getting used to though. I can't see it ever having an FTE because it throws brass almost as hard as it spits lead. Seriously, try to take the lane on the right end of the range if you want to avoid pissing off the guy 3 lanes over. Accuracy is decent, it's a 16 inch basic bitch barrel so don't expect to drive tacks at 800 yards. Practical accuracy and all that. It seems decently reliable. I haven't dunked it in a sandbox personally or dragged it behind my truck for a few miles, but I have no doubt whatsoever that it will rooty tootie when I need to point and shootie.
Do yourself a favor and get a swiss style handguard, though. The fish gill handguard just didn't do it for me personally. It felt a little unstable/uncomfortable and didn't look half as nice. It also vents heat a lot better. Both handguards lock together with little plastic claws and those can break so if You're concerned about that you can get one of the Israeli cock sleeves with the green stripe down the middle to keep it secure. There's also a metal quad rail option that fits real snug in the bayonet lug socket.
I got mine used for $1300 with an Aimpoint PRO. They're nice guns if you're wanting one of the "not an AR" club passes with similar performance. It's a club made out of maple as opposed to oak. They'll both do the job. There's not a market to dress it up like there is with an AR though. You'll be really hard pressed to find any special parts or developments, even spare parts at that. Sig has discontinued the line and can't repair them if you happen to break anything important. So you'll have to turn to 3rd parties and random listings for whatever you're looking for. Keep that in mind.
Right now the SAS is responding to two possibly related attacks, the weapon used by the suspects were knives and a van.
Thoughts?

Idk why the U.K. Doesn't just put a nuke in Syria for each time this happens...with a message. If this continues...for each attack...we nuke. That'd stop it.
>>34150350
>>34150419
The Brits are going to respond to this by bombing some worthless ISIS position with edgy-yet-not-too-edgy messages on their bombs while continuing to import large numbers of a certain peaceful demographic and posting large numbers of conspicuous platitudes about unity and love on social media as their population accepts their new normal.
The end.
It'll happen again and again and again. Brits and Europe wanted to show the world how progressive they were for the last decade and now they are slowly realizing some cultures are just shit through and through.

I was looking through posts on failures of m855, m193, and mk262 to yaw/fragment, and I came on two studies that determined what they think the problem is.
1. All bullets violently yaw around their line of travel for some time out of the muzzle until they stabalize (http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a519801.pdf)
2. This accounts for random terminal performance in soft tissue, since a bullet hitting at a high angle would yaw dig a wide channel and others would ice pick. (https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a458409.pdf)
The solution was to create ammo that would wound independent of yawing, i.e. m855a1 and mk318. My problem is that I cannot determine what this wounding mechanism is, exactly.
Best I can determine from gel tests and pictures online is that the copper jackets are very thin and the mounts of the jacket are (especially in the case of m855a1) very wide, compared to normal OTM or FMJ bullets. This appears to always result in lots of fragments of copper coming off the bullet as it enters tissue.
Two questions: Is fragmentation not what they meant by yaw independent wounding? And is this basically the US throwing a big middle finger to Customary International Law on expanding ammo? Fielding a round with a jacket designed to become shrapnel upon impact seems to piss all over that law.
Bump because you seem to have out some effort into this
I should add, this is for wounding deficiency within cqb distances. m855 ice picking at 250m is a different ball game.
Also a stupid typo where I typed case mount instead of case mouth.
>>34150207
pretty much the further development of fragmenting rounds was to ensure quick kills with minimum munitions from a single soldier and since expanding rounds did that well they said no no to using them hence the birth of modern multiple wound vector munitions in form of high speed copper shrapnel
Two new toys today. Yes I know they are reproductions but I don't give a shit. Just shot both of them and feels good man.
The top is a 69 cal, 1809 model and the other a Jukar 45 cal. The ol' boy wanted 50 bucks for 69 and just gave me the other one. Good people do exist sometimes.
Conversion on 69....
Knew of them but never seen one.
Just shot black powder for the first time on Friday. You'll be surprised how much fun it is, anon!
>>34150230
I've been playing with them for the last five years or so. Have a 44 cal revolver, 50 cal inline rifle and an antique rifle/shotgun that's 150 years old or so.
Yes, they are awesome.
