Aksys seems to be picking games that have a heavier focus on the plot, and they're translating more Otome than we ever got before, so that might be it.
But a lot of really popular VNs are moege, like BroCon, NinKoi, Wand of Fortune, any idol game, TokiMemo, etc. Only school settings seem to be rarer in Otome stuff from what I've seen.

I've only done the one route so far but I really liked it, the character development was pretty good and the plot was fairly entertaining, it had a few cheesy moments but I was caught off guard a few times too. I also really really liked the voice acting, I'm usually the type to skip through lines after I read them but playing through this route I always listened to his lines in full just because I liked his voice so much. The pacing was generally good there were a few moments where it felt like either nothing was happening or something that should be notable just kinda got glossed over. I don't know anything about Jap history but I recognized quite a few of the names from Gekokujo on Warband.

Overall I'd say it's definitely worth a shot, especially if you're already interested in the setting. For the most part the characters are all pretty likable too.

Finished Collar Malice.
Characters were lovable and had great relationships and the plot was solid. There were some points that were questionable, but it was interesting, especially figuring out who was involved in which incident.
I very much enjoyed Shirashi's and Kakeru's route. Honestly, those two alone made the game worth it for me. The rest also wasn't bad, but couldn't come near to those two routes for me.
Especially Shiraishi was a real surprise to me, I did not expect him to be so great.

MC wasn't as good as I hoped her to be. Not too bad, but still stupid from time to time. No wonder Kakeru called her stupid all the time.
She should've just had her face on the side all the time, then it'd be easier to forgive her since she's so cute.

Not really Otome/BL related but I feel like everyone here should try and read Fata Morgana. There's only one main couple here and the VN is also romance heavy. I can confidently say that this is actually one of the best and well written VNs I've ever read.

I think it also got recently released in Vita. It looks fully voiced so I hope it also gets translated at some point.

What are you using to play Touken Ranbu now that the cookie method can't work?

After seeing most of the replies here regarding reviving /sword/ and also seeing the general state of /jp/, I think you guys are exaggerating a lot.
You're too scared of /jp/ and 4chan itself, imo.
Right now the oldest threads on /jp/ are a Cirno imagedump/GETs thread and a Chihaya thread which are around 2 months old. With some others circling around a month old.
What makes you guys think /sword/ couldn't last quite some time, even if there was less than 50 people on it (which I somewhat doubt, since katsugeki airing threads get a considerable amount of
people but that may be because it's /a/)? Are you scared that you'll piss of a mod for posting fujoshit or something which will lead to not only /sword/ getting deleted, but also /blog/? That's a pretty farfetched scenario.
Sure, /blog/ may trigger your average 2huposter /jp/ neet but its been doing quite well for some time. Doubt it'd warrant banning the threads forever.
