Use FFMPEG

After setup, use commands:

>to stream

ffplay -i mmsh://center3.ntt-fukushima.com/n-jraizu

>to record as webm for 4chan posts

ffmpeg -i mmsh://center3.ntt-fukushima.com/n-jraizu -an -y -b:v 700k n-jraizu.webm

>record as video with sound

ffmpeg -i mmsh://center3.ntt-fukushima.com/n-jraizu -acodec copy -vcodec copy n-jraizu.mkv

>>create timelapse webm (I haven't tried this before myself)

ffmpeg -i input.avi -y -filter:v "setpts=0.00390625*PTS" -b:v 700k -r 30 output.webm". (256*0.00390625 = 1)
>>

Tried uploading a test webm.
"Error: Bad video stream. Only VP8 is supported."
Also, assuming that 700k means it's supposed to stop at 700kB filesize? It went past that and I had to close out of the window. I've not really done much when it comes to command line stuff.

No, 700k means kb per second.

Did you press Q to stop recording when you decided to end?

I haven't really done much either.
>>
>>14433858
>q to stop
I didn't see that before, whoops. Though the same error happened again. For some reason I guess it's not outputting VP8? Is there additional stuff I have to install for ffmpeg?
>>
>>14433869
Yeah this is a bit beyond me as well.

But quick google indicates that you have to compile ffmpeg with libvpx support as it can encode VP8.

Heh I'm glad it works now, but it seems like a painful unnecessary step to have to do this.

Probably read up on the above link sometime, hopefully it will solve the problem and you won't have to do this extra step. Helps in the long run.

Also this is probably my OCD, but kindly consider putting the datestamp as the filename (you may have noticed thats what I've been doing above} also helps when looking through old pics and vids.
>>
>>14434021
As I said, I'll definitely read up and try to find out how to get it working without the additional process. And you're right about timestamping files. I'll probably do that for the rest of them.

So snow on Thursday 17 December 2015?

Can weatheranon or someone confirm?

Looking back at last year's thread, snow started to accumulate from 13 December 2014.

I'm an American living in Tokyo for a few months as a break from school.

Japan is a frequent visit but I have done some other train trips worldwide.

Currently in a language school. Learning even a little bit of Japanese has really made this place more easy and fun.

This was my second time to Aizu. I'm going to wait for snow to go again. It can be hard to take it easy in Tokyo so I like to make these trips into the countryside.

ah ah, oh please, stop using unprofessional weather websites

no wait, you can use them
actually, you DESERVE them

How long have you guys been watching this train station?

Three years at least.

What do we watch for?
Will something happen?

There is weather, and trains, and commuters.

Once, there was a steam engine. That was neat.
>>
>>14542960
I think the steam engine is a weekly thing. I've seen it Saturdays at either 11 or 12, Japan time. Though it may be seasonal.

Why worry about the implications of enjoying something (and in particular something as harmless as this)?

If you enjoy it, enjoy it.

Guilt / worry is a wasted emotion.

Autists are a very vocal minority. You can be normal and like trains.

Besides Japanese trains are, in my opinion, the only trains that are modern and still have that romantic aspect to them that all trains used to have. Enjoy the trains anon, and don't worry about what other people think.

Watching this stream is much like looking out a window or staring at a fireplace. It has a calming effect. It allows you to slow down and just be the watching presences.
At first it just seems so odd and strange. But if you keep coming back to it eventually you get it. And you stay all year round.
I like to watch the clouds in summer, the snow pile up in winter, the people, the unique trains and most of all come here to this thread and talk about it with all of you.
Sometimes i like to subtly mix in this when it snows: https://lullatone.bandcamp.com/album/while-winter-whispers-ep

>it will snow
>>
>>14559857
I wish train stations in the US were this calming
But I'm from NYC, and that's the furthest from it.
>>
>>14559878

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Aizuwakamatsu Station is a relatively rural station.

Furthermore, the camera view is literally on the end of a train line so the trains only come and go in one direction.
>>
>>14559595

I agree. I especially find comfort in watching people on the move in different weather conditions when I don't have to be anywhere. Not NEET so the feeling is even more special

worrying about things that can't be helped is problematic. I learn to take some things in life as givens. If you question the origin of every variable in a complicated equation you will never reach a solution

A bit off topic but does anyone here collect Plarail Advance? Seems like a nice way to get some Japanese trains for cheap. I was thinking about getting an entry set and then collecting some of the trains that frequent Aizu Wakamatsu and later on going for the Shinkansens.

I've been a little away, but watching the stream since 2010 does bring nostalgia and thanks to /jp/ stream threads I was able to enjoy my time relaxing. I miss those threads a lot, many places to see, specially a restaurant where you could see costumers eating their udon ramen bowl while talking with the chef as he cooks for more people
Good times

If I remember correctly the link died kinda some time after, or probably they were able to fix. It was a very small nice place, I remember one time some costumer asking why there was a camera and then waving to it (I wish I could find that link again)
Some other nice place was in a temple where you could see mikos during the day, it was heart warming.
