Crack when?
>>
Huh. Didn't notice until I checked just now, but it seems Pure Pure ain't quite dead.
>>
What is consensus on Imo Para? I haven't heard much from anyone about if it's good or not.

From what I've seen they do just little bit once a year and then they disappear.

>Clannad - picked up
Are they translating it though or just using the awful one?
>>
>>12409479
using the awful one
>>
>>12409479
>>12409490
Sekai Project - Ruining visual novels one step at a time.
>>
>>12409490
Got kind of excited there for a second.
>>
>>12409505
Don't worry. They're having Doki edit it.

It'll have TheClannadMan's seal of quality.
>>
>>12409514
I mean, even if Doki were really great, the original baka-tsuki translation is so awful they'd have to redo virtually every halfway-complex line.

The first thing I would have done "taking over" that project is delete the scripts entirely and start from scratch
>>
>>12409533
Tell Dovac that.
>>
>>12409540
Maybe that will be the highest Kickstarter pledge tier.
>>
>>12409490
>>12409479
>using the awful one
This can't be. Shouldn't someone like. Get in contact with Key or something? I don't know.
Why aren't actually translating it anew?
>>
>>12409570
It's sad because I can already see him making it. "We found out the translation was worse than expected, and in order to give it the proper respect it deserves, please give me $100,000. If you're a true fan who wants to support real translation, you'd give it to me."

How long is he going to keep crying poverty anyway? He took $25,000 to translate a fucking pamphlet on headphones.

???????????????????????

This is the translation they're using.
>>
>>12409620
They're pretty obviously in contact with Key given it's licensed on steam
>>
>>12409620
Because Sekai Project and Dovac are too good to translate anything. They'll just keep leeching off of us for money while not giving anything back to the industry and instead just release VNs we've had access to for years all while promoting the niche amongst normalfags.

Make sure you contribute to their kickstarter scam though :3 Because making money solely from revenue isn't good enough for Dovac
>>
>>12409641

I usually like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but that's just horrible. Out of curiosity, I put the line into google translate just to see if that's where they got it from, and it gave me this: "The Stretch out your wings to forget that the exam is the 1st today". At least "stretch out your wings" is closer to the meaning than fucking "bring a feather".
>>
>>12409664
Didn't they translated Shiny Days for Jast and aren't they going to translate WEE?

Also I consider getting Grisaia licensed giving back to the community.

I don't care about them using kickstarted but I'm still disappointed about them using a bad translation for Clannad. Not sure why they would think that would be acceptable. Hopefully they take the negative feedback they're sure to get and reconsider.
>>
>>12409620
>>12409664

Maybe Dovac is actually a clever businessman. He realizes that the idiots on Steam have no way to discern whether or not a translation is good, so it doesn't matter if Sekai Project reuses crappy fan translations in their projects. Just edit them a little to make them sound alright, and then toss them on Steam to collect money from the type of people who bought Sakura Spirit or whatever it's called.

If they're using Doki to touch up the Clannad translation, then I'm guessing Little Busters is next on the list to bring over.
>>
Well, the people handling the translation at Doki had nothing to do with the terrible translation currently available.

But they're still using that one as a base, apparently. Burn it to the ground and start from scratch.
>>
>>12409735
Hi there, sports fan. Batman here.

Can assure you that WEE is being translated and quite well indeed.

Just a few days ago after reading up on a bit of real estate market theory I found myself needing to compare how call options are usually paid out like dividends when their expected value exceeds the initial call pay-in.

This Hasekura fellow sure did his research! I'm finding his interpretation of the stock market a fantastic journey.
>>
>>12409514
An edit pass won't cut it. The translation wasn't only poorly styled and error-ridden as far as the output language goes, it had a considerable number of guesslated lines and all too often it was a miss rather a hit. To bring the script to a passable level of accuracy it would require—at a bare minimum—a capable person who would revise the entirety of the script paying special attention to maintaining the meaning intact, and only then should it be supplemented with an edit pass.

And all that's going to happen is vanquishing the most glaring mistakes so that the script presents itself.
>>
I believe doki was doing extensive TLC as well.
>>
>>>12409384

>>
>>12409780
Maybe he will release translation route by route?

So you have to pay more money for the Tomoyo route English translation DLC
>>
>>12410014
Maybe they'll brand After Story as a sequel.
>>
>>12409780
You just gave me the hope for the complete EX translation ;_;
>>
>>12410014
Then again that's exactly the business plan tailored by Key for AB.
All that fragmentation is becoming inane, you pay the instalments and you receive those small chunks of the story that you have to collect for a long period of time—and you cannot, of course, buy them all at once since they're not ready and even if they were, the reason behind such a decomposition would be overly conspicuous to allow them to flood you with all those smidgeons of the whole at once—and by the time they're all gathered you don't even remember what it was that happened those 4 years ago when the first chunk had come out.

By knocking it off with the green. hint hint.
>>
>>12410676
Finally got through the last couple months thread, Koestl twitter, and sekai projects announcements. Basically from what I understand all 3 games will most likely be released censored, but no one has officially confirmed this. Koestl just kinda pussy foots around the topic.
>>
>>12410776
they're getting released on steam.

We know it will be released censored
>>
>>12410786
If that is true I'm going to hunt down Koestl.
>>
>>12409394
How much time does image editing usually takes, anyway?
>>
>>12410776
They said that the panel they were trying to set up a way to do the 18+ content.

Probably going to have a patch floating around somewhere not on steam or give it to some group and let them distribute it for them.
>>
>>12409646
Yes. But Dovac has almost surely oversold the quality of the translation.
>>
How much are they going to charge for Planeterian?

It's a pretty old game and it's rather short, I can't imagine them asking more than $5.00 for it...but if they really want to be Jews I guess they could put it up for $20.00 and see how many idiots bite at that pricepoint.
>>
>>12410979
pretty sure the price was 13.99 or something.
>>
>>12409408
crack where?
>>
>>12410786
We know the Steam release will be censored, however Dovac said Steam was tentatively fine with his plans to release the 18+ content elsewhere, and MangaGamer has Eden/Chou Dengeki Stryker going onto Steam all ages with an 18+ version on their website, so Steam is fine with 18+ versions being released off site. Thus the real question is will there be an uncensored in addition to the Steam release.
>>
>>12410786
>>12411002
Thank god if there is an uncensored version I don't have to kill Koestl.
>>
>>12410979
They said less than $10 at the panel, so probably $9.99
>>
>>12411005
Those kind of decisions probably have nothing to do with him.
>>
>>12411002
I read that Steam doesn't care if it has an 18+ patch off site that can be used on the game. It's no different than any other type of game "modification". I wouldn't be surprised if they sell the game as all ages on Steam and then have some DLC on their site where you put the porn back in it.
>>
>>12410884
All projects are the same, especially when you're comparing pure VNs to ones heavily focused on strategy gameplay, so about a week.

>>

His name was listed on the KS. It's too late at this point anyway. KS usually only takes action if it's a particularly large pledge or they get a lot of flack for it. Technically it is something a campaign could get suspended over though, so it's probably a bad idea to publicize the fact that he broke the rules like that.
>>
Sekai Project's Kickstarter problems will likely come from the policies against multiple unfinished (as in goods not shipped yet) Kickstarters at once, rather than an inconsequential bid by someone else in the company but not running it.

>>
>>12419049
Hm, they didn't in VNs I played. And I never saw hentai with words censor
>>
>>12419063
Some doujin games don't censor them, but I've only played maybe one or two professional games that didn't. There are some, like Monobeno, where the censorship is so subtle that you don't even notice it unless you're listening for it. Granted, I rarely play nukige, so maybe it's more common to leave them uncensored in those.

Japan is weird about censorship in general. My favorite was in Subahibi where they bleeped out the word ???. The game is filled with graphic rape, drugs, bestiality, and all kinds of other things, but calling someone a lunatic? Now that's just going too far.

You must not be truNEET.

The other day, I was surprised to find that we were not in June.
>>
>>12423100

I had to look it up, but apparently Patreon is a kickstarter alike.

How many kickstarters can you start without actually releasing a game?
>>
>>12423100
I'm just wondering why they're taking on so many projects at once. Wouldn't it be smarter to wait until they've released a few and get some cash coming in before they announce more projects? Especially when they shamelessly admit to turning to Kickstarter yet again for Clannad. Even the people willing to throw money at these projects are likely getting a little suspicious of the countless Kickstarters Sekai Project is doing.

I get that the idea is to constantly have projects going and releases coming out in order to get a steady cashflow, which makes sense for Mangagamer, but didn't dovac admit to having to borrow money from friends and family to get Sekai Project started? I'd really like to know what the deal they offered koestl for Grisaia was, because at this point, I'm convinced they're not paying him until after the game is released.
>>
>>12423137
Dovac plans to run away with money at money pike.
>>
>>12423149

I think dovac's genuine, just retarded and a dramawhore.

It wouldn't surprise me if sekai project was actually having money problems. This whole endeavor seems like it's going to crash and burn if a few of their releases fail in a row. You can't live off kickstarter forever.

I'm really curious how he's managing to get all these big names onboard when they refused mangagamer and JAST, both of which look infinitely more stable(which is really saying something).
>>
>>12423166
Nepotism.
He's Asian.
>>
>>12423166
I imagine it's the numbers working for him and a pretty strong web of contacts. MG and Jast can only cite relatively low sales when dealing with businesses, but sekai can point to their kickstarter success and steam numbers. Before somehow striking a deal with frontwing and key, his only clients were relatively little known doujin makers.

The word is that Dovac quit a relatively lucrative job to try to work on Sekai. It's a pretty risky move considering they have almost no reliable revenue and a huge amount of liabilities (undelivered kickstarter rewards, unfinished projects, etc). Their existing model of pretty much begging for cash to work on projects is somewhat telling of how little they have to work with. They burn through good will pretty quick using kickstarter though, so it'll be interesting to see where it ends up.

Sorry, you only have the anime to work with, and it's nothing really special, having watched it many years ago

The VN was only released on the PS2 and if you take a look at http://www.romhacking.net/?page=translations&platform=18&languageid=12&perpage=20&order=Status, you can only see that 6 translations were made for that platform, none of them being being a VN and the most impressive being DQ5.

There is nothing technically blocking your way from translating a PS2 game VN rather than a PC VN except for worse tools on the PS2. That and need for MIPS assembly hacking most of the time stops most people from translating games because of the expertise needed to actually create a translation on the console where most of the barriers are technical.

Still password hashes isn't really that big a deal since I just checked them against https://crackstation.net/'s tables and got nothing for five of them, so they're probably done up right to the point where it'd be a real effort to dehash them.
>>

>after mangagamer plugs up whatever exploit he's using
I think it was yesterday that MangaGamer site and forum were temporarily out. They were probably DDOSed and hacked that way.

Since this isn't the first time MangaGamer was DDOSed, it's probably better for them to get some kind of CloudFlare service, though I'm not informed if that kind of service is that secure.

Makes me wonder why they're targeting rape though, think of all the murder simulators like COD out there, they could be saving lives!
>>
>>12426119
Because they think rape is worse than murder
>>
>>12426119
Too high-profile and socially accepted. You'll never gain any ground on your own fighting violence in games, it's just too entrenched as normal. People have (correctly) adopted the mindset of "violence is wrong, unless it's fictional" and (incorrectly) adopted the mindset of "sexuality is bad, abnormal sexuality is even worse, even if it's fictional". Once the public makes up it's mind, it takes extreme effort to force them to think about it instead of defaulting to what they "know" to be correct.
>>
>>12426119
Of course it's rape. It's not like everyone involved in these games are consenting adults paid for their involvement.

Wait.
>>
>>12426156
hundreds of girls were raped by eroge writers in preparation for their writing careers

stop mangagamer
>>
>>12426152
I know, it just makes me wonder if people realise how warped their viewpoint is when they start claiming that fictional (x) is as bad as real (x), then probably go and kill some time killing people in their murder simulators.

It's just dumb.

Books with underage sex are fine, because they're literature.
Games built around killing billions (and some even boast their total userbase kill count), are fine.
Torture porn like SAW is totally fine and grosses huge income in theaters.
Games involving underage sex and /or rape, totally heinous and criminal, expect to be locked up incase you suddenly go on a child-raping spree, even if it's consensual in whatever game involved. Somehow this isn't a worry with porn though, people watch porn all the time and don't suddenly feel the need to go raping people.

The double standards are just mindboggling.
Can people really not differentiate fiction from reality yet are dictating what laws we have? Those people are dangerous, not the people who are fapping to 2d and not leaving their house.

>Can people really not differentiate fiction from reality yet are dictating what laws we have? Those people are dangerous, not the people who are fapping to 2d and not leaving their house.
Alas, normality is what decides acceptability, and abnormality must either remain hidden or force it's way into the public spotlight and become accepted as normal. Humans are extremely xenophobic, and it's a major blight on liberalism and democracy that the claim "Humans can make informed decisions if we give them the chance" has been proven false so many times in the US.
>>
>>12426276
illiberal non-democratic societies have even worse track records with respecting the rights of sexual deviants
>>
>>12426330
I'm not saying non-democratic societies are better, just that the fundamental precept of liberalism is flawed.

None as far as I know, although the Chinese did translate original Myself;Yourself VN. Which is a pity, because the (rushed) anime really didn't do justice to it.
There's not even much to do in terms of technical difficulties, at least nothing as serious as >>12424357 might seem.
VN engine itself supports English out of the box, it's used in many PS2 VNs (School Days, Killer Queen, Cross Channel, Tamayura to name a few); there's a converter for images (by WESTSIDE); scripts are packed with vanilla LZSS and even the text can be hooked.
More details here:
>>11302961
>>11326672
>>
>>12426567

I didn't mean to be very critical and serious in assessing why there were barely any PS2 VN translations in >>12424357. But it's interesting how most of the technical barriers are solved because the visual novel game engine is used in so many PS2 VNs and yet no one considers translating it or any other similar games that have this engine. Kinda sad that because the anime adaptation is so old, no one has interest in translating it.

It's interesting that it has received a Chinese translation, which I might go play.

Mangagamer's Higurashi handling was erratic releases at 20 euros a pop.

Stuck in editing/QC hell.

The Japanese version was also buggy as shit, so there's no shortage of errors built into the game.

Princess Evangile has started beta testing:

Speaking of Evangile, MangaGamer recently answered a question regarding script sizes and it turns out that Evangile is quite long which I wasn't expecting. See http://ask.fm/MangaGamerStaff/answer/115963835378

While I still feel insulted by what they did, what you say isn't entirely correct. They released 'Higurashi no Naku Koro ni' (ep1-4) as one package for $40. Then, some time later, they announced they would release 'Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai'; the way they then released them was to release each episode separately at a fixed interval (one or two months, not sure what precisely the interval was) and price them at $20 each. They later revised the price to $10 each and now it's $30 for the whole package, but originally it was $80 for the second half.

>mangagamer gave up on the enhanced anime ver of ImoPara
>>
>>12429233

Did they? I thought word was still
>If imopara is super successful maybe moonstone will fix them for us so we can include them around when we make hardcopies

Granted, the matter of getting hacked probably won't help them much there. Their website being down for a whole day of Imopara's opening week and potential for casual buyers being intimidated, and all. I can see a lot of people who made eroge successful being skittish now that their emails are public with the accusation they're downloading CP.
>>
>>12429315
Did the hacking even attract any attention outside of the VN scene? Seemed like the unremarkable work of some minor leejun member.
>>
>>12429334

Does mangagamer even have any buyers outside of the VN scene?
>>
>>12429166
The initial mangagamer release was episodic. The bundles came after.

US is not a real democracy, it's ruled by two parties and political system is rigged to always re-elect them. for example small parties don't have any chance since vote counting is not weighed.
>>
>>12409394
Speaking of Rance, I'd like to try this VN. Are each game stand alone or there's a particular order to play them ?
>>
>>12429466
You could just simply use the you know, definition of a democracy instead of hurr durr. The US is a republic.
>>
>>12429505
It's a series that goes I, II, III, IV, 4.1, 4.2, 5D, VI, Sengoku, Quest, Magnum, IX, X (2016).
I and II have remakes called 01 and 02 and III is getting a remake next year.
Kichikuou is a spin off that takes place after 4.2.
Some people say that you can just jump in at Sengoku or whatever because they're not very closely related, but there's actually a lot of continuity that you'll miss if you start in the middle, and I think knowing who the heck the characters are and what's going on in the setting enhances the experience of the later games a lot.
>>
>>12429613
Ok thank, I'll Dl the first one then.

I'm looking forward to Evangile, so that's interesting news. I was expecting it to take me forever even if it was on the shorter side so I guess I'm basically going to be getting myself into some sort of unforgettable epic.

The United States is not a democracy, but it is democratic. And it's highlighted the flaws of democratic government quite well.
>>
>>12429441
Incorrect. It's as >>12429166 said. MangaGamer released Chapters 1~4 together in one bundle, then released Chapters 5~8 episodically, followed by a bundle for those. Unless you count the demo which was just Chapter 1, the first four chapters were not released episodically.

The gift keeps on giving.

So what do you think, /jp/? Fakepost from someone else? Change of heart?

I suppose it could be fear too. His twitter's been nuked and the paste/mirrors are gone. And mangagamer does have that lawyer they keep on hand.

He's an idiot if that is him, you don't just try to cripple a business by stealing their sensitive information and then brush it off with a "whoops, sorry".
>>
>>12430739
It doesn't look like it's written by someone having enough intelligence to hack a company's website, even if said company is MangaGamer.
Although I may be giving them too much credit, now that I remember their forum update attempt (by EvoSpace IIRC) which resulted in total forum wipe.
>>
>>12430790
Most likely it was a simple SQL injection, which, to put it simply, is basically taking this function:

"give me all of [user]'s information"

and entering as username

'the information of all the users; also get me Kouryuu'

which would then make the site execute

"give me all of [the information of all the users; also get me Kouryuu]'s information"

In general, you [the web developer] filter out certain characters and/or patterns to prevent people from entering data that modifies the query, but every so often some intern forgets to make the code check that and as a result you can execute random SQL functions in a database. This is the cause of 99% of customer data leaks. It hardly requires any special knowledge, just some basic knowledge about databases and the boredom to try a couple of tricks on tons of text fields on the site to be hacked.

Crying translation is considering translating titles like Rui wa Tomo wo Yobu, Hello Lady!, and ‘&’ – Sora no Mukou de Sakimasu you ni -, if enough people 'vote' for those.

Though the translator only seems to have translated nukige in the past. I'm not sure if they're any good.

Judging by the English in his blog posts... yeah, I can definitely see that ending well.

Oh wait, it gets better:
>Just a current student in TAFE with around 6-8 months experience in Japanese, though i really still suck with a lot of stuff. I assume he mistook imopara to cp? Even though its a fucking vn
>>
>>12431548
>>12430948
It's like watching a schoolboy bullying kindergarteners, I can't believe he's genuine/legit.
No one that knows what he's doing can be bothered to do this kind of damage control. He's literally nobody, he doesn't even belong to a group whose reputation he could possibly defend. It's fake.
>>
>>12432691
Isn't that essentially what it is? VNs basically do that all the time except they sidestep it with the "But they're 18" stuff. Pretty sure that doesn't fly in the real world.
>>
>>12433009
It does, unless you live in Australia. The person being 18 makes porn legal regardless of how young they look. Compare Imopara to porn flicks with 'underage' settings such as high school; as long as the actors are 18 or older it's fine even if inside the fiction they would logically be underage.
>>
>>12433009
it's not cp. They are not real people but cartoon characters. That is very different imo.
>>
>>12431548
This dude runs a twitter dedicated to hacking various sites. I can't see this ending well for the guy.
