To the advanced people: what took you to the next level? I feel like I've hit a wall in my studies and feel like there's something important that I'm not doing.

There is no next level, and in fact there's no levels at all - there's just knowing things and not knowing things. At the beginning of language learning, you know nothing, so there's a lot of things to learn, so you start with the most common words and grammar and so on. What changes over time isn't what "level" you're on, but rather with what frequency the things you don't know appear. After a lot of time learning, what you would call "advanced level", there's no special walls to climb or challenges to overcome. Rather, it's just the things you don't know are appear with a low frequency. In the beginning you don't know the word for "food", after a long time you don't know the word for an obscure dish eaten only by ancient Ainu tribes. There's do difference between these two states of learning expect one word occurs with less frequency.

In other words. What do those of an "advanced level" do to take themselves to the "next level"? Read more, because that's all one can do - gradually learn the things one doesn't know. There will be no special wall to climb, no specific challenge to overcome. There will simply be the gradual accumulation of knowledge over a long period of time. Welcome to language learning, enjoy your lifelong stay.

Sort of, I guess. VNs selling well on Steam caused more companies to be open to selling their titles officially on Steam. It was at about this time MG also realized that long nukige were a big money maker, so even the off-Steam market got a huge boost. While the Steam market is mostly stabilized after the huge VN bubble, the off-Steam VN market will likely grow with Nutaku being proactive in funding Sekai's 18+ releases and the success of both Alicesoft gameplay titles and long nukige in general.

It also helps the Western VN industry that the Eastern industry is suffering a bit, at least in the short term. Even if the Eastern market becomes more stable later, the Western market has proven itself to be a source of profit, enough that companies will be open to localizations.
