I am very surprised at how little southern euros eat. Their "big lunch" is usually like a slice of cheese and a small piece of bread and some fruit. This is why they're such small people compared to other europeans. They're not getting enough nutrients.

That's because the bacon, eggs, sausages etc. are for after you've gone and milked the cows and carried the water buckets and such. You wake up, MAYBE sip some tea/coffee/water, MAYBE grab a hunk of bread or whatever scrap of food is ready in the kitchen, go do your morning stuff while someone stays home and gets the grub ready. After you've broken a sweat and gotten the morning's work done, the sun is coming up and you go back to the house where there is hot eggs, coffee, orange juice, etc. waiting for you.
