So all other failed presidential candidates were worse than Sarah Palin?

Sadly, it's likely.

What was his vision and why did you agree with it? You should post it.

The way JFK approached conflict management, especially post-Cuba Crisis. This man truly realized that nothing was more important than preserving the peace and preventing nuclear war. He was truly horrified by some of the meetings with his ExComm (guys like McNamara and Acheson) and how they calmly discussed how millions of people would die depending on which strategy would be used during nuclear warfare, how they would apathetically talk about assassinating problematic individuals (like the leader in South Vietnam at the time).
Kennedy seemed like a genuine guy in this regard. While ideology played a big role in his policy making, he did realize how important it was to have a good working relationship with Krushchev, who especially near the end of JFK's term also began to be less confrontational and more in line with JFK's thoughts. Kennedy eventually began to strongly disapprove of most of the proxy war-type conflicts and just wanted everyone to get along pretty much. He, more so than other presidents during the Cold War, managed to understand the Soviet's strengths and weaknesses, what was important to Krushchev. For example, most of the tensions in that time period (Cuba Crisis, talks on non-proliferation, NATO discussions about Multi Lateral Forces project vs de Gaulle/Adenauer wanting their own force de frappe) all revolved around Berlin or more broadly the German question. Kennedy and Krushchev both realized that Germany was the key and adjusted their strategies accordingly.
The two leaders were more in sync than any other duo throughout the Cold War.

What do you think of RFK?
>>
Reagan ťbh. He defeated communism.
>>
>>51093527
Probably the number one reason the world didn't go up in flames in 1962, his talks with Bolshakov and Dobrynin (about Berlin and Cuba respectively) were essential to peaceful resolution.
I also admire how, after MLK was killed he gave a speech to an audience of mostly angry black people about Greek tragedy/philosophy and still managed to calm them down. If anyone tried that today they'd be lynched in the name of social justice or something.
>>
>>51093673
His speech was amazing. He had a sort of gentle, reassuring charisma. It was one of the few cities that didn't have a riot iirc.
>>
>>51093755
and genuine, like mentioning a white man also killed his brother
>>
>>51090592
Favorite? Probably either Theodore Roosevelt or Franklin Roosevelt. Both were there when the American people needed them and brought what the country desperately needed.
>>
>>51093755
>>51093771
Both Kennedy seemed, to me, to just wanna make the world a better place. Yes they had to navigate through the political process just like every president does. But compared to guys like Nixon or Reagan both the Kennedys seemed to retain some sense of grounding, they didn't seem to get caught up in it as much.
While I don't like him nearly as much, Wilson seems like another example of a very 'genuine' president.
One could argue this is due to ideological reasons, because all are liberal internationalists in a sense, but I disagree. FDR and Johnson both belonged to this category as well yet didn't have that same... personal style, the same fire as JFK had.

>yfw after Nixon was elected the guy who killed Robert said that made him regret doing it
>>
>>51093469
Forgetting also his domestic policies - Kennedy first proposed supply-side economics 20 years before Reagan.
>>
>>51094123
While Nixon was a power hungry realpolitiker with questionable morals, I honestly think he handled Vietnam about as good as could be expected. He bombed the shit out of them, in that sense preventing many American soldiers from being killed, but also provoking the fury of the people who were shocked by his brutal approach — the same people who protested earlier about American soldiers being killed. Nixon was caught in a catch 22 because of the commitments made by his predecessors.
Also the way Kissinger/Nixon managed to play out the Chinese and Russians against each other was absolutely genius from a political perspective. I hate Kissinger and I'm not a big fan of the chinks (I feel like Nixon should have sought rapprochement with the Russians against the Chinese), it still was a very admirable strategy.

At least Nixon managed to accomplish... well, anything. Johnson before him and Ford/Carter after him were some of the most passive or unimpressive presidents in history.

He actually got shot while getting in his car, and then went and gave his speech instead of going to a hospital.
>>
>>51094569
It did take a definite toll on Roosevelt though along with his unfortunate journey to the Amazon. He was pretty decrepit in his last years and died at only 60.
>>
>>51094625
Well, he was never going to be president again, so there was really no reason for him to be around. Climbed to the top of the world and then went to find something better.
>>
>>51094716
He was being widely toted as a Republican candidate for 1920 although at that time, probably any Republican could have won because the nation was burned out on war and Wilson's police state.

The death of his son Quentin in WWI was also very hard on him.

In terms of domestic policy, Nixon was rather lousy. He expanded further on the welfare state that LBJ built and also choked the US economy with regulations that led to a decade-long recession.
>>
>>51094967
For fuck sake America needs at least some basic welfare. Also he founded EPA.

Yeah but its not black and white. The Swedish welfare state is way to generous but you need some basic welfare.
