You do realize that the space race was whoever could get to the moon first right?

You could be losing for 80% of the race but gain a burst of energy and win by a photo finish

how is the moon relevant

there is no moonbase or moon missile launch station

You obviously have no concept of how much more difficult and significant it is to get to the moon, land on it, walk a fuckin round on it, and get home safely, than it is to just get into space and back.

>Space Shuttle

>Good
Kid, please. The very concept is retarded and is based solely around dick waving contest, not the actual needs of the space industry. Buran was better in the sense that it at least could operate unmanned and primarily because it was basically a space plane strapped to a majestic heavy-lift delivery system. unlike with the Space Shuttle, where the space plane itself was a rather pathetic delivery system with a fuel tank and two huge petards strapped to it.
What's really sad is that because of the dissolution of the USSR Energia has never become a mass used thing, not the Buran itself.

M8 you must be fucking retarded if you think that a spaceplane is useless. The space shuttle and the Buran were initial proofs of a concept. How is having a reusable launch vehicle "useless"? Now we have the X-37b, which is quite possibly the most advanced spacecraft ever made.
>>51092212
He was the American scientist who designed and launched the first liquid fueled rocket. Without him, spaceflight would be much more impractical.
>>
>>51090983
It's Kazakhstan, moron. Russia sends spcae ships from there too as we have a base in there.
>>
>>51092459
Reusable launch vehicles are not useless, enormous space planes are.
>Now we have the X-37b
And what exact benefits over the current spacecraft designs does it present? Apart of course from the "aid in the design and development of NASA's Orbital Space Plane, designed to provide a crew rescue and crew transport capability to and from the International Space Station", which basically means that it exists as a testbed for the very concept of the space plane itself, a concept that was abandoned by both the US and the USSR long ago with such projects as X-20 and MiG-105 and were only pulled out back by both countries for the sole purpose, which is a dickwaving contest.
