Have you ever read a language book (besides English)? They're completely worthless. I remember a Japanese book that I had back in college that was full of typos, incorrect grammar, using phrases that no Japanese person ever said, and spelled things like syasin or zitu. Now, that's just one example, but every language book teaches you the wrong things in one way or another.

The fact that programs/sites such as memrise, anki, etc. don't allow more customization with their flashcards (for example, allowing certain flashcards to have addition stuff, such as fields for different declensions) is frankly pathetic. I'm literally babby-tier as far as programming, and I know for a fact that I'm able to program something that does exactly that (if I weren't so lazy I'd have already finished the entire product).

The contents aren't designed to make you fluent. It's designed to teach you vocabulary and grammar until you're ready to start taking on things on your own. It teaches you things that books would typically teach wrong.
