https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caduceus
>The caduceus is often used incorrectly as a symbol of healthcare organizations and medical practice (especially in North America), due to confusion with the traditional medical symbol, the rod of Asclepius, which has only one snake and is never depicted with wings.

There are way better resources out there.

What languages you know well which you've learned that way, and your favorite resources for them?
>>
>>51069643
Have you ever read a language book (besides English)? They're completely worthless. I remember a Japanese book that I had back in college that was full of typos, incorrect grammar, using phrases that no Japanese person ever said, and spelled things like syasin or zitu. Now, that's just one example, but every language book teaches you the wrong things in one way or another.
>>
The fact that programs/sites such as memrise, anki, etc. don't allow more customization with their flashcards (for example, allowing certain flashcards to have addition stuff, such as fields for different declensions) is frankly pathetic. I'm literally babby-tier as far as programming, and I know for a fact that I'm able to program something that does exactly that (if I weren't so lazy I'd have already finished the entire product).
>>
>>51067484
I want you to become an adult and leave Pokemon behind
>>
>>51069735
I started progressing on Spanish when I dumped duolingo, took few classes and bought a book

Motivation is the most important factor but duolingo doesn't really offer too much
I guess it's ok for the really really basics but then it's kind of pointless
And progresses slow
>>51069836
Maybe we have different standards for publishing school books here
>>
>>51069836
>i read one bad book so all of them must be bad

it's an Amerifat, what the fuck do you expect. They literally get taught in school that books are evil and were invented by "godless communists".

Amerifats are literally the Muslims of the Western World.

In countries like Finland (and many, many others) Educators inject English into the study very early, even when students are 4-5 years old.

There is no other language as relevant, unless you want to begin calling Chinese the world language.

I am never impressed by people who speak three languages

"I speak French, English, and German"

I ask pointed questions and it is revealed that not only do they not actually speak German, but they do indeed speak English well because they were forced into it, without any choice of there own.

post yfw you realized all your existence is worthless
>>
>>51070706
>interactive, it gives you both visual and audio references
Sure but the contents are shit, so those features don't really do shit
>provides a way to practice things you learned four months ago with things your practiced four days ago
And what exactly prevents you from doing this with a book?
>>
>>51070822
Not sure what prevents you from doing both

its stupid not to use all the resources you have available
>>
>>51070706
I have no idea why, but your post looks like a salesman's speech to me.
>>
>>51070822
Uggghhhh. Do I really have to explain this to you? Fine.

The contents aren't designed to make you fluent. It's designed to teach you vocabulary and grammar until you're ready to start taking on things on your own. It teaches you things that books would typically teach wrong.

>How is it different from a book?
Because unless you feel like flipping through pages randomly and you just happen to find a phrase you haven't studied in a while, it's not useful. Duolingo keeps track of what you need to practice to help you develop all the skills you need before moving on.
>>
I can speak english portuguese and spanish and want to learn chinese, have i wasted my time? (i know i wasted it with huespeak, but it was easy as fuck i lived there for 3 months, but is chinese a waste?)
>>
>>51070986
Sure, I think duolingo is ok on mobile
For example, when you're taking a bus to your work

But otherwise I'd say it's waste of time
Many people here seem to use it as one of their main resources, but it's really not suitable for that

It's a night and day difference when the news anchor stops talking and they interview some pleb on the street who slurs every word, uses ten slang terms per sentence, and overall shits on every grammar rule in the book.

Find a different keyboard on the jewgle play
>>
>>51071036
>grammar
Poorly
>Duolingo keeps track of what you need to practice
How? By throwing some "random" phrases at you and wasting your time? Or the ones you kept failing? What prevents you from underlining the difficult phrases/words?
>>
>>51071042
>English
>Spanish
>Portuguese

If you are genuinely fluent in all three languages, you could get a very good paying job here.

The hard part is getting the visa.
>>
>>51070274
We usually start learning English when we are 9 years old and Swedish when we are 13 but many take courses in some extra languages like German, French, Spanish, Russian etc. at the elementary school and the junior high.
>>
>>51069123
Literally books. There's a reason they have been in use for 3000 years. Living Language makes some good stuff and it's easy to understand. Get one, read it, review it, then read a novel for practical use and you'll be pretty set.
>>
>>51071219
Been to america as many times as i've fapped. I don't know if i could get a work visa without having the job offer first though, which i would definetely have to do if i want to scout some shit. China is pretty easy to get into, but i don't know shit about the language, and that's why i want to learn. Plus i like chinese qts that don't smell like shit
>>
>>51071320
What books will teach you: ん=m
>>
>>51071440
What duolingo will teach you
cat = gato
>>
>>51071440
I guess if you buy a physics or math book, yeah. Buy a language book to learn some basic grammar.
>>
>>51071481
Which is better than a book telling you cat = vato
>>
>>51071376
Living in China is very challenging, especially for a Gweilo (which is what they think of you, regardless of your actually genes)

Yes Americans are racist too, but China is exponentially different.
>>
>>51071578
So there HAS TO be mistakes in books and there CANNOT be mistakes in duolingo?
>>
>>51071660
Duolingo has enough of a community where mistakes are addressed. I don't know of any one specific book's website that has enough of a following to correct things that need changes.
>>
>>51071751
Why are you so hostile against books? Do you think they don't get revisions over time to correct their errors? A little error every now and then won't ruin your study.
>>
>>51071751
Book's website?
There are 4-5 native speakers of both languages writing that book
Then some people proofread it and it gets published
Then, teachers around the country report the mistakes (if there are any) and they're corrected

Duolingo is bunch of volunteers doing the job on their free time
>>
>>51071852
I'd prefer not to have errors at all. I've actually read dozens of language books throughout high school and college, and they ALL had dozens of mistakes that the teachers had to correct, not to mention the ones that I looked at on my own which also had their fair share of mistakes.

So yes. Books are an unreliable source.
>>
>>51071955
>the shitty books I used in my shitty high-school of my shitty state are a shitty source
>>
>>51071955
There's a good chance you'll go through Duolingo too before some of the errors get caught and still end up learning the wrong thing. The world's not a perfect place, you just gotta deal.
>>
>>51072030
But at least with Duolingo, there's a community to help me out.

>>51072021
Reminder that these are the exact books you recommended earlier in this thread.
>>
>>51072546
I didn't know that there aren't any good books in the glorious US of A
>>
>>51072589

You will never be fluent if you only use Duolingo.
