Why?
>>
The pilot felt like taking a different route.
>>
what the hell
they fired their missiles from distance that far? wow i didn't know that was possible
>>
To screw with your military. Standard cold war stuff desu lad
>>
They get to do their daily harassment of other countries air space and at the same time go do a bombing run. They're actually saving jet fuel which doesn't really make sense since they're figuratively swimming in cheap petrol and petrol products.
>>
>>51031869
M8, British submarines can fire their cruise missiles (accurately) at 2500km from the target
>>

they used alot of cruise missiles

As poor as Russia is wouldnt they want to save time/money on not doing this, doesn't it cost like 50000$ an hour to fly modern jets

It's probably cheaper for Russians with their locally produced fuel
>>

Russian high-end cruise missiles could hit Syria even if they were fired all the way from Kazan. But Turkey is in the way and it would be a waste of money to do that, of course.

It's only like +2 hours at most for Russian jets, also the map is distorted on mercator, remember that Spain is 1.2 times bigger than sweden

Only american ones. Fuel is cheaper (army literally gets it for free, it's not even included in budget), spare parts cost and personnel salaries are much lower too.

"gets it for free" doesnt mean it doesnt require resources to have it. just because the people in command say its not accounted for it doesnt mean it really is free. its just that putin and friends have huge shares in russian oil companies so they can take the small hit of flying jets as much as they want.

no its not because its synthesized. synthesized resources are will a lot more expensive than just digging shit out of the earth. the price is minimal because thats the way to pacify the population. all the russian oil or gas companies are dependant on exports and thats where all the profit comes from. and being state owned means one thing - that shit is corrupted and there is a political reason for it to exist (expecially with oil and gas)

It's just some banter. The Tu-95 used to do it all the time.
Actually, I think that the Tu-95 is the aircraft with the most pictures with escorting aircraft. Dunno if this is true but, the pilots of the Tu-95 and their escorts used to fool around so much that they needed to field a comissar to board the bombers to make the pilot take shit seriously, but it didn't change much if anything.

Or, it could be that they simply thought the enemy had better AA coverage if they went the shortest route, so they took a detour.

It was to avoid Turkey or American planes.

We've been having a pissy fit about Russian planes near Turkey's self-declared no-fly zone.
We also asked them to not go through Iraq, so they obliged.

Of course Brit media can't put two and two together though.

As for the thread, it's dishonest that the Brit media doesn't mention how much Britain's closest ally, us, purposefully screw with Russian airspace near Alaska as well. It's not like any laws are being broken, or this is somehow new. But ever since Crimea I feel like there's a new article every week.

I'm talking about the neverending "Russian Nuclear Bomber Threatens Britain" articles from your tabloids. I can even link a few.

Russia is the perfect enemy. Liberals hate Putin, Conservatives hate Russia. In the media all anti-EU talk = pro-Russian.
All separatism talk = pro-Russian.

Literally just pick a topic of political debate, and then call it pro-Russian, and you win.

Apparently the Tu-160s were equipped with the Kh-101 cruise missiles. So no surprise they wanted to do a full long-range route. It's the first time they're put to use.

>Kh-101/102 (Izdeliye 111) - developed as a very stealthy replacement for the Kh-55SM in the late 1990s, the Kh-101 has a conventional warhead and the Kh-102 is nuclear.[4] This missile weighs some 2,200 - 2,400 kg , the weight of warhead is 400-450 kg. According to reports, the Kh-101 has a maximum range of 4,500-5,000 Km a variable flight profile at altitudes ranging from 30 - 70m to 6000m , a cruising speed of 190-200 m/s and a maximum speed of 250-270m/s. It can well be classed as a low-observable flying vehicle because the radar cross section of the Kh-101 is 0.01 m2. The missile is equipped with an electro-optical system for correcting the flight trajectory and with a TV guidance system for terminal guidance.[4] Accuracy is reportedly 6–9 m.[7] Estimates range that it will outnumber the Russian nuclear missile fleet by 5:1, making them some of the most numerous and effective cruise missiles in the world.[7] They are expected to be in service in those numbers by 2023. The new missile complex has been successfully tested and in recent years put into series production to equip modernized Tu-95MS bombers.

>I'm talking about the neverending "Russian Nuclear Bomber Threatens Britain" articles from your tabloids
You're a bit of an idiot aren't you?

Firstly, tabloids =/= all Brit media. Tabloids are less about news and more about entertainment and sensationalism, they print a constant stream of bullshit.

When more respectable newspapers and outlets like the BBC publish these stories, they do not say Russian bombers "threaten" Britain, they say what happened: Typhoons intercepted Russian bombers and it's a regular occurrence. Here's a typical example:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-34227249

What exactly is your problem, retard? Do you think Brits don't have a right to know what their military is doing? Don't you worry, when US fighters fall out of the sky it makes the news too.
>>
>>51034424
tbph it feels like shitty tabloids make up 99% of your media
>>
>>51034500

It feels like that because you lot are obsessed about the UK and start several threads that link to British tabloids each day. Your sad obsession means tabloid stories about Britain are constantly bumped on /int/, so your exposure is to the tabloids and nothing else.

That says a lot about you, and not so much about our media as a whole.

>>
>>51034185
If Typhoons are scrambled for ANY reason it will make the news. A while ago there was a Latvian cargo civilian aircraft that turned its transponders off so air traffic control couldn't see it. Typhoons were scrambled and it was a front page news story.

It just so happens that most of the time Typhoons have to be scrambled to intercept Russians. That is not our fault.
