I support all of those things.

An adult who wants to use weed for recreational purposes shouldn't have the government meddle in his personal affairs.

Government should be secular.

And guns should be kept out of the hands of crazy people, meaning we need more background checks before issuing weapons. And things like handguns are rarely used for legitimate purposes. Further, the benefits of having civilians carrying around guns in case of a >turrurist attack around is quite speculative.

But there are many things that worry me about Justin Trudeau - mostly his views on globalization and gradual destruction of all walls stymieing tides of people from across the world from charging in en masse without being sufficiently integrated and forced to adopt our beliefs around democracy, equality, freedom of speech, and the rule of law.

Has been happening for years. In order to buy a handgun, you need a licence and you need to take a class of firearms safety which is ~$150 total and ten hours of classroom time + an exam.

If you want to buy something bigger like an M4-type rifle, that's another $250 and an additional restricted firearms course.

I don't see how they could get any tougher beyond outright banning guns.

Don't get me wrong, I still support gun ownership for people who are screened (ex. no debilitating mental health issues, no criminal backgrounds for any violent offences). But letting any random, unchecked person walk into a Wal-Mart and buy a semi-automatic rifle and some ammunition just doesn't make sense. And its not as if every criminal out there happened to buy their gun through underground markets which can't be traced to ordinary retail operations -- the increased supply does cause more shootings.

But we don't ban cars or couches or every substance known to cause cancer because society balances the pros and cons of a given substance before determining whether to legalize, regulate, or ban it entirely. The vast majority of people are willing to accept the risk of having their life slightly endangered by having cars on the road in exchange for the benefits of cars -- an integral part of modern society. But what about guns? Like I said, we can still give screened people certain categories of guns for things like hunting or collecting. So what else is the purpose? What would I propose banning: dangerous guns that tend to be used in criminal offences (ex. handguns, automatics) and guns for people with debilitating mental disorders.
